Flowers. And more flowers. And a plant.
I made a quick stop yesterday at Trader Joe’s for more flowers. These will be the last of my away-from-home bouquets, as I’m only here for another 8 days or so. I arrived in a rainy Hartford. As I walked home from the dress rehearsal last night, my umbrella proved slightly inadequate for the rain that was teeming down. I was doing my best to protect my notes and my book and my phone, so I figured wet sneakers and jeans were an acceptable part of the collateral damage.
This is the transition from daytime rehearsals to night duty and I always have a bit of trouble adjusting. It will take a few days. I’m up much later than normal. And I’m missing Rachel! (Yes, I know she repeats at midnight, but I need to be getting sleepy at that point and that might not be the best show to watch in order to accomplish that.)
The show looks great. It starts preview performances tonight. There are still things to iron out and tweak and that’s what previews are for. During this time period, rehearsals go on in the afternoon with performances at night.
As I made dinner on the electric stove in this apartment – a stove that is wildly irregular in terms of temperature settings – I said a little thank you for Stella and told her I missed her. I can’t wait until I’m home for good and Stella and I can have some quality time together.
Don leaves on Sunday for NYC. I will be home later that evening after I watch the afternoon preview. I’m sure I’ll be mowing the lawn on my day off (we will have had a lot of rain) and attending to a few other things, and then I’ll head back on Tuesday for three more days. Since I have a small coaching job starting the Monday after opening, I might skip the actual opening night and head home on Friday. I have a lot to do prep-wise.
Wildfires, hurricanes; so much devastation. And all of it is frightening and very dangerous. Stay safe. Evacuate if necessary. Nothing is worth your life.
Happy Thursday.

It is good to be busy! I have been catching up on sleep and reading this week. I bet Don is excited but I hate that you will be separated again. Enjoy your time home. So many prayers for those in the path of Irma and those wildfires also. Hugs!

It must be so frightening for them!

Me too, Dottie. Thank you!

After reading about the Texas destruction from Harvey, I am dreading what Floridian will have to experience also. I hope everyone, including your family, remains safe. Claudia, You’ll be reunited with Stella soon, and you’ll be able to cook heaps of comfort food. When Don settles in, you can start making plans for a visit!?
Claudia says
Yes, but he’ll also try to get home on his day off. We’ll just have to see.

I commiserate with you on the electric v gas range issue. It’s been more than 30 years since I’ve had access to gas burners & I STILL miss them. If I ruled the world, electric ranges would be abolished. Everyone would have gas! [Let me rephrase that]. All ranges would be gas-powered!! We had gas for everything when I was a kid. Gas furnace, gas stove, gas fireplace – my mom even had a gas dryer! Of course it might have had something to do with the fact that my dad was an industrial gas pipe fitter his entire working life [41 years]. He always said gas was better because [1] it was not impacted by power outages [2] it was cleaner [3] it was safer and [4] it was cheaper than electricity. My dad also taught me a valuable lesson. Whenever he was looking to buy something – and later giving advice to his kids on the same topic – he always said “Look to see what the professionals use…” No matter what you were looking to buy. And professional cooks ALL prefer gas. So there’s that. Anyway, you & Stella will be reunited soon for more happy biscuit-making. And hey, thanks for listening to my mini-rant. Have a great day. Peace.

I grew up with gas everything – stove, furnace, dryer and hot water heater. I didn’t know anything different until I moved out. Then I realized what I was missing!

So scary to watch this storm’s path of destruction, so soon after Harvey. Will you and Don and Stella and the cottage be okay? I saw a map that showed that it may climb up the seaboard. How is your sister and her family? Keeping everyone in our thoughts. X Chy
Claudia says
We should be okay, though I might be closer to the coast here in Hartford. Don will be in NYC. If it gets too close to us, I’ll have to go back to the cottage to make sure everything is okay. But I think we’ll be fine. My sister and her family are prepared and are watching the forecast to see if they need to evacuate. Their area is not a top priority evacuation-wise.

The weather has gone mad. We have cousins in Montana, fortunately they are not near the wildfires. Those hurricanes are relentless. One after another and so destructive.

Claudia says
It’s insane, Marilyn. I hope everyone stays safe.

I think Mother Earth is mad and she’s not going to take it anymore!
Claudia says
I think so, too! And now an earthquake near Mexico!
