Bashful

May 9, 2017 at 9:09 am by Claudia

I don’t know whether you do this, but I have alerts set on eBay for a couple of things I collect. Not Roseville or McCoy because I would get a slew of new listings every day. But I do have an alert for vintage Nancy Drew and for the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs egg cups that were made for Walt Disney in 1937. If you’ve read this blog for any length of time, you know that they are highly collectible and hard to find. I am the proud owner of two of them, Doc and Dopey. In the past couple of years, I have a bid on several, only to lose them to a higher bidder. Very frustrating!

The other day, I received an email alert for a new listing – Bashful. To my surprise, it wasn’t an auction, but a “Buy Now” and the price was very reasonable. I quickly clicked on the listing – it was still there, which was a miracle – and I bought it! I couldn’t believe it. It was so easy. Would that they were all this way! He arrived yesterday.

There he is! He’s in excellent condition. I’m so excited – can you tell?

Each name is on the egg cup itself.

Look at that sweet face. I’m truly amazed by the condition of this egg cup – the eyes, the rosy cheeks, the mouth – the paint is beautifully intact.

This is the marking that is on each of the egg cups: ©1937, W.D. Ent., Made in Japan. (Walt Disney Enterprises.)

And there he is with Doc and Dopey. Doc and Dopey, by the way, seem to be up for auction far more often than the other dwarfs. The rest are quite rare. Snow White herself comes up once in a blue moon and usually goes for a hefty sum.

But, ever hopeful, I will strive to acquire them all.

I’m so thrilled that I got this little guy and for a very modest price, to boot!

I didn’t mulch or mow yesterday because it was cold and windy. Today, I will mow. Tomorrow, I’ll buy the mulch and some more plants and trust that the cold weather is departing, as it looks like the  low overnight temps will be edging upward. Fingers crossed!

Yesterday, on his day off, Don drove out to the Borrego Springs in the desert, as it is a community without street lights and is known as a great place to see the stars. I haven’t heard about the stars yet as that happened after I was in bed, but I do know that I put in a request for some apple pie, as Julian is on the way to Borrego Springs.

Hmmmm. Will I be getting one in the mail?

Happy Tuesday.

“Bashful” is a little treasure! I didn’t know that you could set up e-bay alerts, but I will be checking that out later today. Enjoy your day…

He’s beautiful….such wonderful condition too! I’d be excited too! I discovered something new to me to collect….horse brass. I’m smitten! I didn’t know you could get eBay alerts either….that could get dangerous for some…like me. It’s cold and rainy here today…one step forward, two steps back! Enjoy your day! ;)

Horse Brass! How neat! The alerts are helpful if you’re looking for something very specific. If it’s something like Roseville Pottery, a pretty broad category, then they’re sort of a pain!

Such a cutie! I used to have a cute set of eggcups I picked up in Ireland, they were all farm animals. I guess I lost them in the divorce, sigh.

Very little I want right now and the cupboards/cubbies/shelves/etc are FULL~ not that it has stopped me before if I see something I really want. I hope you get some apple pie! Hugs!

Oh, he is just wonderful!! And I bet he was so happy when he saw he had 2 friends just waiting for him. They fit together perfectly!

My brother-in-law lived in San Diego and a few times a year he would work for a couple of weeks at a time in Borrego Springs. He always mentioned how beautiful (and hot it was in the summer) that the night sky was. Sweet….on (very likely!!) getting a pie out of his trip! Hope it arrives soon.

Cold and gloomy day here again. We had a bit of rain over night. But the grass and the trees are all a beautiful green, and that is a very good thing, indeed. Hope your mowing goes well for you today. I think it is a wee bit less stressful (though still not easy by any means) to mow when the temps aren’t so high. So that is a bit of a good thing, too!

Yes, it’s very cool today, so mowing seemed easier, somehow!

Here’s an article I happened to find on my feed today (ironically) of a collector who has over 8500 egg cups! http://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/local-news/western-leader/89903313/One-man-and-his-8500-egg-cups

You three little guys look so cute together. Reading about your lucky find is helping my blood pressure this evening. I need to turn off cable news for sure. Too bad it’s too cold here in SE WI to go outside and do something in the garden. Our new Autumn Flame Maple tree and lilac bushes were delivered today. Now I want the sultry temps to come our way so we an get down to business outside.

Bashful is adorable. It must be thrilling to find another egg cup after being so patient and one in such good condition as well. We’ve got some sun today in London and the promise that warmer weather is on the way so hopefully my dwarf beans will look a bit happier over the next few days. At the moment they’re looking a bit bashful!

….and in my neck of the woods there has been a tunnel collapse at Hanford where the leftover chemicals are stored. This happened yesterday and they are saying no nuclear exposure has been detected so far. But I am afraid that the real problem will take days or weeks before we hear what the real story is going to be. There is overwhelming problems to hear and pray for. I will add the problems you are worried about to my prayers. Please add my problems to your prayers.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
