I don’t know whether you do this, but I have alerts set on eBay for a couple of things I collect. Not Roseville or McCoy because I would get a slew of new listings every day. But I do have an alert for vintage Nancy Drew and for the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs egg cups that were made for Walt Disney in 1937. If you’ve read this blog for any length of time, you know that they are highly collectible and hard to find. I am the proud owner of two of them, Doc and Dopey. In the past couple of years, I have a bid on several, only to lose them to a higher bidder. Very frustrating!
The other day, I received an email alert for a new listing – Bashful. To my surprise, it wasn’t an auction, but a “Buy Now” and the price was very reasonable. I quickly clicked on the listing – it was still there, which was a miracle – and I bought it! I couldn’t believe it. It was so easy. Would that they were all this way! He arrived yesterday.
There he is! He’s in excellent condition. I’m so excited – can you tell?
Each name is on the egg cup itself.
Look at that sweet face. I’m truly amazed by the condition of this egg cup – the eyes, the rosy cheeks, the mouth – the paint is beautifully intact.
This is the marking that is on each of the egg cups: ©1937, W.D. Ent., Made in Japan. (Walt Disney Enterprises.)
And there he is with Doc and Dopey. Doc and Dopey, by the way, seem to be up for auction far more often than the other dwarfs. The rest are quite rare. Snow White herself comes up once in a blue moon and usually goes for a hefty sum.
But, ever hopeful, I will strive to acquire them all.
I’m so thrilled that I got this little guy and for a very modest price, to boot!
I didn’t mulch or mow yesterday because it was cold and windy. Today, I will mow. Tomorrow, I’ll buy the mulch and some more plants and trust that the cold weather is departing, as it looks like the low overnight temps will be edging upward. Fingers crossed!
Yesterday, on his day off, Don drove out to the Borrego Springs in the desert, as it is a community without street lights and is known as a great place to see the stars. I haven’t heard about the stars yet as that happened after I was in bed, but I do know that I put in a request for some apple pie, as Julian is on the way to Borrego Springs.
Hmmmm. Will I be getting one in the mail?
Happy Tuesday.

“Bashful” is a little treasure! I didn’t know that you could set up e-bay alerts, but I will be checking that out later today. Enjoy your day…
Claudia says
Yes you can! Go for it, Judy.
Donnamae says
He’s beautiful….such wonderful condition too! I’d be excited too! I discovered something new to me to collect….horse brass. I’m smitten! I didn’t know you could get eBay alerts either….that could get dangerous for some…like me. It’s cold and rainy here today…one step forward, two steps back! Enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
Horse Brass! How neat! The alerts are helpful if you’re looking for something very specific. If it’s something like Roseville Pottery, a pretty broad category, then they’re sort of a pain!
Vera says
Sweet little egg cup. Hope you get your apple pie — and I hope Don had a great night for watching the night sky!
Claudia says
It ended up being cloudy, Vera. But he had a good time.
Margaret says
Hooray! Fingers crossed for pie.
Claudia says
Here’s hoping!
Debbie - Mountain Mama says
Such a cutie! I used to have a cute set of eggcups I picked up in Ireland, they were all farm animals. I guess I lost them in the divorce, sigh.
Claudia says
That would be a big sigh!
Mary Vieira says
You must be ” chuffed” ( my new favorite word), congratulations on the find! He is so sweet.
Claudia says
I love the word, ‘chuffed’ too!
Linda @ A La Carte says
So excited for you! Bashful is adorable and I’m just so happy you got him at a good price! Doing a happy dance for you!! I haven’t added anything much to my collections lately. Very little I want right now and the cupboards/cubbies/shelves/etc are FULL~ not that it has stopped me before if I see something I really want. I hope you get some apple pie! Hugs!
Claudia says
I have a feeling there will a pie arriving in a couple of days, Linda!
Chris K in Wisconsin says
Oh, he is just wonderful!! And I bet he was so happy when he saw he had 2 friends just waiting for him. They fit together perfectly!
My brother-in-law lived in San Diego and a few times a year he would work for a couple of weeks at a time in Borrego Springs. He always mentioned how beautiful (and hot it was in the summer) that the night sky was. Sweet….on (very likely!!) getting a pie out of his trip! Hope it arrives soon.
Cold and gloomy day here again. We had a bit of rain over night. But the grass and the trees are all a beautiful green, and that is a very good thing, indeed. Hope your mowing goes well for you today. I think it is a wee bit less stressful (though still not easy by any means) to mow when the temps aren’t so high. So that is a bit of a good thing, too!
Claudia says
I’ll try to remember to post a photo he took yesterday. It’s so gorgeous!
Yes, it’s very cool today, so mowing seemed easier, somehow!
kathy says
glad for you finding another disney egg cup … bashful is very cute. do you secure them somehow so they cannot fall off the shelf?
and how’s the fight against the “glamping” project going?
hope you get some apple pie soon!
kathy in iowa
Claudia says
No. But I may move the shelf away from the bookcases, just in case something falls off the bookcase!
Wendy T says
Claudia, the thrill and excitement of the hunt! The collections is growing. You are so patient and ever-vigilant! I hope your reward is PIE!
Claudia says
It better be!

Claudia says
So happy you’re enjoying A Gentleman in Moscow. Truly one of the best books I’ve read in a very long time.
Debbie in Oregon says
Wow! I know how much you love these, and that you’re always on the lookout for them … so congratulations :)
Claudia says
I was just saying on Instagram that it’s taken me 14 years to gather together three of the egg cups! Patience is necessary.
Marilyn says
Congratulations on purchasing “Bashful”. Those egg cups are adorable. Don probably had a good view of the stars. I along with my sisters love to star gaze and look for the moon, too.
Marilyn
Claudia says
We see a lot of stars out here where we live, but I imagine the amount you can see in the desert is mind-boggling!
Judy Clark says
Bashful is so cute and in such excellent condition. Hope you get your pie. Just wish I was there to share it with you! LOL
Have a good week and don’t over do.

Excited to see you found another one Claudia. And in such great condition. I’ll be looking on eBay and Etsy all the time now! Here’s an article I happened to find on my feed today (ironically) of a collector who has over 8500 egg cups! http://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/local-news/western-leader/89903313/One-man-and-his-8500-egg-cups
Have fun reading!
X Chy
Claudia says
Oh my gosh! 8500 would take up every inch of space in my cottage! I’ll go read it. Thanks, Chy!
Kay says
You three little guys look so cute together. Reading about your lucky find is helping my blood pressure this evening. I need to turn off cable news for sure. Too bad it’s too cold here in SE WI to go outside and do something in the garden. Our new Autumn Flame Maple tree and lilac bushes were delivered today. Now I want the sultry temps to come our way so we an get down to business outside.
Claudia says
I am so angry about what’s happened and I have to get off Twitter for the same reasons.
jan says
Keep talking about your gardening. I have to repot all my houseplants and I just can’t get up the gumption. I need the inspiration of your lovely garden. Here we are having spring but not for long. and it takes until July for summer to appear.
Claudia says
I will. Hopefully, I can get some photos today.
Vicki says
What an amazing find, Claudia. Like a little pot ‘o gold, that one. Happy for you!
Claudia says
Thanks, Vicki!
Valerie says
Bashful is adorable. It must be thrilling to find another egg cup after being so patient and one in such good condition as well. We’ve got some sun today in London and the promise that warmer weather is on the way so hopefully my dwarf beans will look a bit happier over the next few days. At the moment they’re looking a bit bashful!
Claudia says
I hope your beans are reviving as I write this!

….and in my neck of the woods there has been a tunnel collapse at Hanford where the leftover chemicals are stored. This happened yesterday and they are saying no nuclear exposure has been detected so far. But I am afraid that the real problem will take days or weeks before we hear what the real story is going to be. There is overwhelming problems to hear and pray for. I will add the problems you are worried about to my prayers. Please add my problems to your prayers.
Claudia says
I read about that – how frightening for everyone in your area, Tana. I will most definitely pray for you.
