Beat the Snow

January 7, 2017 at 8:13 am by Claudia

Three to five inches of snow is headed toward Hartford this morning, but not, supposedly, toward my home in the Hudson Valley, so I’m going to try to get out of here early and beat the snow. Fingers crossed. The weather is unpredictable, and if I feel like it might be more trouble than it’s worth, I’ll wait until tomorrow.

But I’d really like to get home for a couple of days, starting today. I need to see my husband. And my new chair, which Don picked up for me the other day, bless him!

So, this will be quick, then I’ll jump in the shower and start to ‘assess the situation.’

Don likes cigar boxes and wanted me to stop by a local cigar shop here in downtown Hartford to see if they had any empty boxes for sale. On the way home from rehearsal, I peered in the window and saw that they did. So, I pulled open the door and walked right into a cloud of cigar smoke courtesy of a guy who was standing at the counter, talking to the owner. To his credit, as soon as he saw me, he moved away, but the damage was done. Plus, I quickly realized that there was a smoking lounge in the back of the shop! Yikes.

I picked out three boxes (only $2 a piece!) and hightailed it out of there. But the smell of cigar smoke surrounded me. I had to open the windows in the apartment and air out my clothing!

They’re neat looking, aren’t they?

We had our final run-through in the rehearsal space yesterday and, boy, was it fun! Darko’s vision for a production never fails to astound me. I wasn’t sure how this was all going to come together, but I’ve learned to trust Darko and on Thursday, I could really see it coming together. Yesterday – perfection! And it’s hilarious, as well!

Can’t wait to see it with costumes, lighting, set, and sound on Tuesday. We have an extremely talented cast and they are having a lot of fun, as are we.

A cheery view of the yellow alstroemeria for you today.

Wish me luck with my ‘beat the snow’ journey home!

Happy Saturday.

Thank you, Shanna. I’m home. I’ve vacuumed, rearranged furniture, put the legs on the new chair, moved the other chair upstairs! Now, I’m finally sitting down, ready for a low-key evening with Don.

May your travels be safe and your drive worry free. It’s been raining here since last night and we sure need it.

The drive was fine. There were snow flurries all along the way, but no real accumulation during my trip west. I think I got out of Hartford just in time!

I love old cigar boxes too. Be safe getting home. We are waiting for the snow and ice to hit. We are anticipated to have 3/4 to an inch of ice here in Portland, Or.

Oh, stay indoors, Michelle, and stay safe. Snow I don’t mind. But ice is scary. I hope all is well and that you get less than predicted.

I hope you make it home safely and enjoy time with your sweet hubby. Our snow was only a dusting but the temps are cold. I’m nesting and enjoying it so much!

I’m home safely. Husband is at the store. We put the new chair together and it looks great! Enjoy your nesting. I didn’t have time to leave a comment on your blog but I love seeing all your Roseville on display, Linda!

They are a hit. Don really loves them, Corinne! He’s already found the perfect spot for them.

Yellow alstroemeria – gorgeous!! Never saw yellow before – all we see around here is that very pretty pink/cranberry variety you showed a little while back. Next time I’m in the floral section of my supermarket [which is where I get flowers in the Winter] I’m going to ask about the yellow. What a cheery bounce they’d add to these often dark & dreary Winter days. Like a bowlful of lemons on the dining room table [which actually is a very pretty centerpiece too]. Safe travels home & have a wonderful visit!

That yellow is awfully nice in the dead of winter. You’re absolutely right about that, Janet. We need bright, cheery color!

Hope you were able to get home and that you had safe travels. I hate when there are those “guessing games” going on with the weather. If it moves its path even 30 or 40 miles, everything can change. With all the technology we have, it seems we should be a little closer to having more accurate forecasts. Mother Nature being contrary, I guess!

Enjoy your days at home. Can’t wait to see pictures of the new chair. Happy weekend.

I’m home. Driving was fine. I left just in time. But it did start snowing – very lightly – while I was driving west. No accumulation, so all was dry and safe. The chair is here, we’ve put the legs on and it looks beautiful!

Glad you made it home, Claudia. The heavy rainstorm hasn’t made it to my area yet. In fact, the sun is coming out from amidst the gray clouds. I know the calm won’t last, as the horizon has some angry looking darkness. What does Don do with the cigar boxes? My nephew is a woodworker and my brother is always on the look-out for the wooden ones to give his son. I have no idea what my nephew is going to do with them.

He puts things in them. He’s been taking lots of photos (very into photography at the moment) and he likes to print them out instead of just having them on his phone digitally, so he uses the boxes to store them. And other treasures, as well!

I see you are safe at home! And you were busy…me too. We were under the stairs…cleaning, purging….and laughing at all the stuff we still had down there, that we had forgotten about! Oops! Loving those cigar boxes! Enjoy your evening! ;)

I have some cleaning to do today, and laundry, and I have to take down the white Christmas Tree and put the ornaments away. Don didn’t want to mess with that!

I love the cigar boxes and your new chair is awesome! It’s been single digits here so I’m staying in and nesting! Enjoy!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
