Bee Study

May 25, 2012 at 7:30 am by Claudia

I must have taken 100 pictures of these guys. They move so fast. One sip and 1/16th of a second later, they’re off to another flower. My camera is just not capable of taking one shot after another with no downtime in between. You can bet one is on my wish list. Let’s see…

Canon Rebel t3i
Singer Featherweight
A pair of jeans that fit

I won’t list all those pesky things like a new furnace, a new hot water heater, a rebuilt chimney, another car. Oh, and a lawnmower that works. Yep, it stopped working again.

We had to drive into NYC yesterday for a meeting. It rained, it poured. I mean poured. Don and I made the mistake of thinking we could share one umbrella. We were two very soggy souls. I know we need the rain…but I’m getting pretty sick of it.

The winner of Grace O’s book, FoodTrients, and an apron is Mary of A Breath of Fresh Air! Congratulations, Mary. Drop me a quick email with your address and I’ll pass it on to TLC Book Tours.

Happy Friday.

Lovely pics Claudia. A Singer Featherweight is on my wish lis too. I have a friend who has two of them that she found at thrift shops. I am amazed ~ I have never seen a featherweight at a thrift shop. Please let me know if you find jeans that fit. I have the same problem.

You forgot a new mattress…….we need one so badly. We also need a new roof…….really badly. But we are headed to see the grandchildren out West so the lumpy mattress will have to wait.
    Happy Memorial Day.

I think we’ll be getting your rain today here in New England. I love the bee photos. Last night I stopped and watched the bees on the white Rhododendron by our driveway, where I never spend any time! I told Kerry we need to plant a Rhododendron in our backyard near one of the sitting areas so I can relax and watch the bees! Hope you and Don are dry now :)

Jeans that fit are a constant sorrow. I’m wearing dresses and skirt for four weeks. That should solve the problem for a while. ;-)

I’m not sure what I like more, the bees or the fragile flowers.

    have a nice weekend

Oh gosh, how wonderful that I won such a nice giveaway Claudia, thank you so very much. I’ll look forward to receiving it later – will answer your e-mail and give you my address.

I’ve been doing the same thing this morning – photographing bees on the foxgloves and the lambs’ ears which they adore. Hard to catch but you got great pics. I still need to upload mine and check them out. Used my new SLR and really don’t now what I’m doing with that big monster yet! Hope you get your new one soon…………mine was a generous gift (Canon 7D), I would never have been able to buy it myself!

Happy holiday weekend dear friend and, again, many thanks.

    Hugs – Mary

You did a pretty good job of capturing the bees ~ but I’m loving the flower. What is that? Not that I have any place to plant one /~”.

p.s. I’m looking forward to porch pix.

The jeans are too loose? Nice bee shots for all your effort! We just got the other car, the new hot water heater, and the new lawn mower! It’s just endless I guess. Hope you’re all dried out!

I adore the bees. They dance here on my geyser guarda plant and I love to watch them. Send me your rain pretty please. I have been running around watering plants like a mad woman as we are hosting a little get together on the deck tonight and it is awfully hot.

Those bees do move fast! I have a new camera on my wish list too, but it’s going to be a while before I can take the plunge on that purchase.
Jeans… hmmm… Walmart has Lee jeans available in a long length and different styles. (It’s not my favorite store, so I’m cringing as I make this recommendation.) Good luck on your hunt!

I bought the Rebel T3I last summer and it is the best thing in the last 10 years I have bought myself. Great shots though, even without the fancy camera!

Don’t forget about a good mattress, Claudia! #1 in importance is good sleep to stave off depression. :-) Congratulations to Mary!!! It looks like a lovely book. Have a nice weekend! :-) Jennifer

Hey Claudia – I got a very close-up look at a bumble bee yesterday. The poor little thing was “thwacked” by my cat. I stopped her before she killed it but it didn’t look like it would fly again. We rescued it and got it onto the patio table in the shade. I’m not sure if it recovered but it wasn’t there this morning so hopefully that’s good news. J

I’ve taken some pictures of these guys…all I have is an El Cheapo point and shoot, but there are days when I can get a good shot.
Incidentally, Bees love the blues and purples the most.
Our yard SWARMS WITH THEM when the Wisteria is in bloom. Also, a few weeks back the wild garlic was blooming and there were swarms out there too.
We all have wish lists. Why is it when we ‘practical people’ make wish lists–we put needs on there instead of really BIG HUMONGOUS WISHES?!

    enjoyed the photos.

…my wish list resembles yours ;) ~ Pat

I’m blaming you for the nine FQs I picked up on ebay. Kaffe Fassett’s colors are so saturated, the oranges killed me!
I wanted a FW, too for years. Got tired of waiting, but couldn’t justify the big bucks to get a good one. There are other little black singers out there looking for homes, and they are CHEAP! I got my 99k on ebay for $50. She got my husband and son hooked on them, and now I have a 15-91(has a huge harp and drop feed for quilting, and runs through ten layers of denim with ease), and hubbie bought me a FW for combined Mother’s day, 27th wedding an. and Christmas for the rest of my life.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
