I slept in so my ‘schedule’ is thrown off. Schedule seems a bit grandiose for one commitment at 11:00 am, but there you go. It’s supposed to be 8 am and it’s 9. But it’s sunny. Oh heavens, waking up to a sunny morning is so mood-altering!
I’ve been hearing more and more bird song. Yesterday, I saw several robins – whether they were just stopping by or have moved in for the season, I’m not sure. But my heart skipped a beat when I saw them. They are, I’m sure, a bit taken aback by the snow.
This morning, amidst the flitting and flying of birds, I saw my lone mourning dove sitting on the edge of the birdbath. The water is frozen, but there he was. And I saw the pair of mourning doves looking for food on the driveway. Remember to fill the birdbath, Claudia!
I know we’re far from spring here in the northeast, but hearing my birds again makes me happy. Seeing them makes me even happier.
This was what I saw when I first got up. The morning light focused its spotlight on the Chinese Evergreen.
Let’s see, what else? I got my hair cut yesterday – 3 inches off! It looks so much better and feels better. I don’t know why I let it go so long, but I always do. I think when you have long, straight hair, you can get away with it. But I also have fine hair, so after a while, it begins to look scraggly. Much better today!
I’m off to brunch at Rick and Doug’s this morning. I haven’t seen my buddy, Sam, for a while, so I’m looking forward to some kisses.
Happy Sunday.

Sunshine and birds are welcome here, as well. There are a pair of mourning doves at work on a nest just outside my kitchen door and I love watching and hearing them. Their chosen spot in the palm tree there, has been a hazardous choice for doves before, so it worries me. They’ll spend days building and fussing about the nest, laying eggs, sitting on them, only to have the ever-present squirrels rob them of their treasures. I can only wish them well, as they don’t seem to heed my warnings.

I worry about that sort of thing so much! But, in the end, there’s nothing we can do about it. Sad.

It is wonderful to hear the birds in the morning again. I still haven’t seen a robin. Last year my first sighting was on March 5. We have no snow to speak of remaining, so I think they should be arriving soon. Some of the village workers said they have been seeing them for several weeks. The Wisconsin River remains pretty much open, so some people say that some stay year-round by the water. Lots and lots of mourning doves, though!!
Sunshine is an elixir, isn’t it? We have some today, also. Have a great Sunday. Kisses from a pup can make most days pretty fantastic!!
Claudia says
Thanks, Chris. It’s still sunny and Don said he took a walk in Central Park. Perfect day to do that sort of thing.
Linda @ A La Carte says
We have liquid sunshine today. I did not want to get up but I did and enjoyed church very much. Going to see the Grands and Sara for dinner as they will be gone this week on Spring Break.
Claudia says
Have fun with your family, Linda.
Donnamae says
Yeah for the sunshine…guess it’s supposed to stick around for most of the week. Like Chris, I haven’t seen a robin, or a morning dove. But there has been lots of bird chatter. And…the cranes are actively courting. Hope you enjoyed your brunch! ;)
Claudia says
Lots of bird chatter in the early morning. Thank heavens!

Isn’t bird watching so relaxing and soothing. We have seen a female and male Cardinal in the yard. My sister saw a Blue Jay last week. The Blue jays can be aggressive at times. Enjoy your brunch with Rick and Doug.

I saw a female cardinal yesterday and a blue jay a couple of weeks ago – love that splash of color. Thanks, Marilyn!

I have crows year round, but the hummers are slowly returning as my hummingbird friendly flowers start opening. I miss my pair of Mourning Doves. I haven’t seen them in over a year. I hope I’ll get some in my yard this year. Enjoy brunch!
Claudia says
We have crows year round, as well. And cardinals and various small birds – woodpeckers, too!

after all the snow-stress and work you’ve had over the last couple weeks, i am glad that you let yourself sleep a bit more today, saw/heard some of your birds and had brunch with friends. :)
hope you have a great week ahead, find the outfit you have in mind and especially enjoy the opening night of “etm”!

Don found a jacket, pants and shirt today (oh, and shoes, too!) So now I have to find something cool to match his finds!

Sunny here too – and it DOES feel so good! I completely missed the time change & was a bit befuddled this am, but then it finally dawned on me. Thank goodness Apple automatically adjusts the time on all their devices. Now the only things I have to change myself are the microwave & range. I haven’t even set up the time on my new TV because I never tape anything. Got my hair cut yesterday too – 2 months after I SHOULD have done it!! Feels so good to have it the proper length again. I loathe it when it’s too long. Now I know I couldn’t ever grow my hair long again. It would make me too crazy – LOL. Enjoy this sunny Sunday! Peace.

The cable box automatically changes and the computers/phones do as well. Then I just have to go around and change the time on the microwave and the Bose CD player. Not so bad! (Oh, and my car – but I haven’t done that yet.)

Wow, seems like a few readers got some sunshine, too, Claudia. Makes you feel like new, right? On the other hand, we got rain in SoCalif — thankfully, steady and light so as not to play horrible havoc with our burn areas — and we’re, at the moment, completely overcast although it’s not cold but instead 70 degrees and muggy.
Did you read that incredible article in the NY Times called, I think, “The Man Who Knew Too Little” about the former corp exec who decided after Trump won the election that he’d turn off all news and, I mean, he REALLY did, and lives a very insular but good life out in the country on a farm he bought? I was quite fascinated.
Claudia says
You needed the rain, Vicki.
I didn’t read that article, but I’ll be sure to look it up. Good for him!

It has been great weather here today..blue skies…sunshine…warmer temps…We have some birds that have returned but I haven’t seen a Robin yet…and no Mourning Doves singing their sad but beautiful song…I think that long gray hair is very pretty…I have finally quit coloring mine so it is mostly gray and I am starting to love it!
Claudia says
I like it. Sometimes I miss my dark brown hair, but I’ve never colored it. People think I have highlights and streaks put in professionally but it’s all natural.

robins showed up in grand rapids Feb 28 heard only and then seen March 3 yeeeehhhhaaaawwww!

Yay! Cannot wait for spring!

hope you gave a nose kiss to Sam from me!
I’ve thought you would look wonderful in a chin length bob. it suits your personality.
well. and the fact I just love that hair style.
I went short. pixie Jean Seberg short. lucky that my Bob loved it. it’s wash and go for this lazy person. I even learned to cut it myself! (didn’t say it looked good. just said I learned to cut it! LOL)
Claudia says
I’ve had chin length bobs before. Not so great. I have a heart-shaped face that gets round when I gain weight – which I have – and a longer length looks better on me.
I would love to have the kind of face that could support that Jean Seberg look! I’m always so envious of people that can do that. But my face is wide and, frankly, I have a largish head! No can do!

I know what you mean about all the birdsong. I literally stopped in my tracks from the garage down the driveway to the mailbox. There was a robin sitting in a big tree in our front yard calling out and another robin, further down the block, answering. I stood still and listening to the call and response over and over again. Then I noticed the sound of a red-wing blackbird too. A block always spends a couple of days in the arborvitae along our driveway each early spring before heading to the nearest wetland. Hate losing that hour – but it was still light here at 7 p.m.!
Claudia says
I know. It’s a tradeoff but I sure liked it being lighter at a later hour!

We have the same thing going on here – robins are now back and just saw a pair of mourning doves on the fence and at my feeder yesterday and today. Hearing the singing of the birds again is glorious. Brian and I were sitting in the living room this afternoon, reading the Sunday paper. The front door was open, so just the screen door (glass window up) was separating the living room from the outdoors. We could hear the birds chirping through the door. I said to Brian, “Listen to that. We can hear the birds again. Isn’t it beautiful?” We are slowly, but surely hearing and seeing those signs of spring…
Claudia says
Isn’t that wonderful? Hearing the birds is what keeps me going through the end of this winter!
