Yesterday, a reader who subscribes to the email version of my posts sent me a ‘reply’ to that post. She commented on my not responding to her previous replies. Sigh. After a long day of packing, loading up my car, driving home, unloading and unpacking, I confess it hit me the wrong way because I have taken the time to explain this very thing more than once. In fact, I deliberately mentioned it on the blog a couple of weeks ago when I received a reply from that same reader because I wanted her to know that I couldn’t respond to her. And I can’t respond to her now except here on the blog.
But I’ll do it one more time in case there are any of my readers who missed those posts and in case I wasn’t clear in my explanation. I’ll even give more details.
I cannot respond to your ‘replies’ to the email version of my posts. Period. They are sent via Feedburner. They are not sent by yours truly. A few years back, if you remember, there were problems all over blogland with readers not receiving posts via email. After lots of hours spent trying to fix the problem, we were told that email providers such as AOL, Gmail and Yahoo were often blocking what they saw as mass emails from one place. The solution was to create a more personal email address that would eliminate this problem – in the case of those of us who use a host/Wordpress, an address connected to our server. I consulted with my host and I did just that. That email address is connected to my server and it’s the one that Feedburner uses in the ‘From’ line. But I can’t respond using that email address. It was created only to make sure you receive my posts.
And frankly, an email of the post is not meant to be a two-way avenue of communication, it’s simply a courtesy version of that day’s post.
I am happy to provide the opportunity to read my posts via email. Personally? I don’t subscribe to any blogs via email because, for me, the visual experience on the blog itself is lost in an email. I post every day, so you know there will be a new post sometime in the morning. But I know a lot of you prefer getting them that way, if only to know the post is up. I understand.
If you want to leave a comment, please do it the way everyone else does; right here on the blog. Or you can tap on the envelope icon on my sidebar and send me a personal email. I am a rarity in the world of blogging; I take the time to respond to every comment on the blog. I also answer every personal email. So, please don’t take me to task for something I cannot do. Besides, why not be part of the conversation right here on the blog?
Okay. Sorry to go on, but I want to make sure I’m being clear about the whys and wherefores.
I have a mass of morning glories growing along the fence right outside the kitchen door. But there have been no flowers. I mentioned to Don last week that I was disappointed – a lot of leaves but that was it. Yesterday, when I arrived home, I saw four or five buds! Two of them looked ready to pop and, sure enough, there they were this morning. Thank you, morning glories! I’m sorry I didn’t have faith in you!
I finished unpacking around 5 pm. The whole day was exhausting. I’m glad to be home in our cottage. I wrote an email to the cast saying goodbye (I’m usually there for opening night.) But I have prep work to do and I have to send off our deductions to our accountant and all that has to be done today and tomorrow. Better to be home.
Don may take the bus home tomorrow night because it’s easier to grab the bus than go all the way back to Jersey City to get his car. I can pick him up at the station. Since I don’t have to be at Monday’s rehearsal until noon, I don’t need to get there the night before. Looks like we’ll both be taking the bus to the city on Monday morning – just at different times! Anyway, I can’t wait to see him. He’s missing our little cottage. I know the feeling.
This isn’t the clearest picture, but it’s been very hot and humid around here. Right before I could grab my phone, there were four catbirds in the birdbath at the same time! I wish I’d managed to capture that sight! They clearly needed a refreshing dunk.
Happy Friday.

As Dorothy says “There’s no place like home.” Just being surrounded by familiar is what makes it home.I like being home too.
Your flowers are so beautiful. I take such pleasure in them.
Isn’t it interesting that technical world gives such freedom in saying things that may not be said in person?
Well anyway while at the library yesterday I came across something that made me think of you. Did you know that in 1938 there were films made based on Nancy Drew? The actress who played Nancy Drew was Bonita Granville. One of the movies on the disc is “Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase”. Just had to share knowing your interest in Nancy Drew books.
Claudia says
Thank you, Trina! Yes, I did know that – though I confess, I’d forgotten! Here’s some info about her that you might not know – she became Bonita Granville Wrather (that’s how I remember her) when she married a guy with an entertainment empire. She and her husband produced, among other things, the Lassie television series!
trina says
Oh! I did not know that. Lassie was one of my favorite shows growing up.
Claudia says
Mine too! I can still hear the theme music in my head!
trina says
Greensleeves, right? At least that is what I think of when I hear the theme music. And I love Greensleeves music.
Claudia says
I don’t think it was Greensleeves, but very like it. Same sort of haunting melody.
Janet in Rochester says
You guys made me so curious about the song, I had to go looking on YouTube & found the show opening:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3zopwFjRVuk
And you’re right – VERY similar to Greensleeves…
Claudia says
I did the same thing! I was pretty sure I was right, but I went to YouTube!!
Shanna says
Thanks, Janet. It was exactly as I remembered—even the same key as it was in my head!
Gayle says
I don’t understand why anyone would whine if they have misunderstood previous explanations. It is another small sign of today’s ‘me’ mentality. ‘You’ made ”me’ upset, boo hoo😂 I think you are most generous in the time you take to respond to everyone, most don’t do so, even when they asked for and were given information. I don’t mind as I think a well written blog is a gift. Even though many blgs are businesses now. I confess not to following or reading many of them as they are all too much the same in content. I would like to put some names out there but that would be mean
Claudia says
Well, I share your feeling about many blogs having much the same content. I don’t read many of them, either. Blogging seems to be ever-evolving. I find I still love the more personal blogs the best. Thanks, Gayle!
trina says
One of the things I like about your blog is that it is easy to read. I get so frustrated with some blogds that in order to read it, you have to go here to get there and pictures are moving that I just give up after awhile.
Claudia says
I’m glad it’s easy to read, Trina.
Shanna says
Lucky! Morning glories, they are having a tough year around here in our elusive summer. Between rain, cold, clouds, and more rain, mine are still struggling. There are tiny buds, but it will be a race to see if they will bloom before we leave. They are going to have to hurry!
Enjoy your weekend at home with Don and Stella.
Claudia says
I don’t know if my moonflowers will bloom before the inevitable October frost. Fingers crossed.
Linda @ A La Carte says
I am glad you are home for a few days! You are so great about responding to comments and always trying to let us know what is going on with you. I hope the reader now understands! You do have a LIFE other then blogging after all. I will finish my book today, yesterday I kept falling asleep. Stress wears me out. We are hoping the kids get power back tonight or tomorrow. It’s been a long week for them and us. Hugs!
Claudia says
I’m home for good, Linda! The work on Midsummer is done. I just have to commute to the city occasionally for work. But I’m HOME!!!!
Feel better, my friend.
Susie Stevens says
Claudia, There’s comments sent to me also…that I can not reply back too. I look at blogs and sometimes can’t even leave them a comment. Used to, whenever I wanted to leave you comments it would jump and skip letters..I have no idea what that was about. I just kept trying and it worked out. :):) I always love seeing your garden area. Those birds look so cute soaking in their bath. Blessings and glad you are back home. xoxo, Susie
Claudia says
Probably had to do with your browser or your internet connection. I’m so glad it corrected itself! Thank you, Susie!
Donnamae says
Your morning glories are so beautiful! I bought a couple of flowering cabbages to put in my front pots to replace the geraniums. Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on your outlook, my geraniums are flourishing with this unseasonably warm weather, so I don’t have the heart to remove them. What’s a girl to do? Lol! Enjoy your time at home….and this glorious weather! ;)
Claudia says
Today is rainy, but I am just plain enjoying being home!
Donnamae says
Rain is good! We’ve had to start watering our shrubs, trees and evergreens…we haven’t had rain in the last two weeks at least. Happy raindrops! ;)
Claudia says
Thank you Donna! The sun came out for 3 minutes but now it’s gone!

yours is a very unique and educating blog. I never knew about the behind the scenes work that goes on for shows, or the arrangements made for you when you work. The other subjects are interesting too. I read sewing blogs and somehow came across yours and stayed a while. Like me, this person just may not understand all the workings of blogs and thinks everything is under your control. Or just a slow learner. I miss a lot of the wonderful blog writers who now only post a few times a month but we have to understand that their lives change. I will enjoy your blog like a good book as long as it lasts. Thanks.
Claudia says
Thanks so much, Jan! I would be more likely to brush it off as my error if I hadn’t addressed it in the past. But I have. Anyway, here’s hoping that everyone understands now! I miss those bloggers who now post rarely. Life takes over and I get it. Also Instagram has become the preferred method of communication for some bloggers. It’s nice and I certainly spend a lot of time there, but nothing will replace a blog post, IMHO. xo
Wendy T says
i only write comments regularly to posts from a handful of blogs, and of those, there are only four blogs to which I comment on almost every post. Two bloggers have become friends, in that i meet up with one in person (once we found out we were only an hour’s drive apart) and we email each other regularly, and the other I haven’t met yet but we also email about our personal lives regularly. I also consider you a friend, Claudia, even though most of our communication is via your blog. You are open and honest about your life and always have things to say that open my eyes, open my eyes wider, or just make me smile or laugh or cry. In other words, you touch my life positively. Thank you for being you! I’m glad you’re home and Don will be home soon.
Claudia says
Oh, you’re making me tear up! Thank you, Wendy. I’m glad we are friends – I feel the same way.
Grace says
Hi Claudia,
Your blog provides a respite and a warm embrace that is such a treasure.
Your heartfelt and creative content is much appreciated and welcome at my end.
Thank-you very much for your efforts and may the frustrations stay at bay.
The Morning Glories image is magnificent and i love seeing your birdbath as that is one of my fantasies.
How nice to be home for Autumn which also seems like the perfect time to spend with Stella!
I look forward on your behalf to be able to put taxes behind you and having a less hectic schedule.
Many thanks and all the best, with Love,
Grace
Claudia says
It is a beautiful time to be home, that’s for sure, Grace. I just have to organize and type up the deductions and send them off via email today and I’m done! (I’ve been putting it off today, but I’ll have at it when I finish answering comments.)
Thanks so much, Grace.
Katheryn says
Hey Claudia!
I am loving your photos as usual! I hope you continue with the lovely pics into Fall and well… always!
I am sooo looking forward to a beautiful Fall.
The Carolina sky looks so pretty with the Autumn leaves and fortunately, I have trees trees trees and woods!
I confess; I am not outside a huge amount in summer down here.. I am very fair, as if my ancestors would shake their heads and wonder how I got into the South!
By the way, I hate to bother you about it, but do you remember where the post is that contains your recipe for biscuits? No hurry- but dear girl, they look so yummy.
Love and Peace. (Listening CSNY “Deju Vu” damn! we had great music! I am still a bit of a hippie in my heart)
Claudia says
I don’t know what post it is on. But if you go to the sidebar of the blog and find the Search Box, you can search for ‘cloud biscuits recipe) and it should come up.
Love CSNY!
Nancy Blue Moon says
Wishing you and Don a quiet peaceful weekend together!
Claudia says
Same to you Nancy. He won’t be home until late tomorrow night, but we’ll be able to grab 24 hours together.
Mary D. says
Claudia, just wanted to let you know I appreciate your blog and read it every day.
Claudia says
Thank you so much, Mary!
Judy Clark says
So glad you’re home and that Don will be coming home even if for a short time.
Have a good weekend.

Claudia says
Thank you, Judy! Is your sister home yet?
Marilyn says
Those Morning Glories are beautiful. They were worth the wait.
Marilyn
Claudia says
They were and they’re a nice autumn surprise.
Chris says
Hello from your friend you’ve never met. We might be related (hehehaha). When I was little, I kissed Lassie on the television screen every Sunday night — remember she just sat there so sweet and then raised her paw at the end of the credits . . . and I read the Nancy Drew books in bed, under the covers with a flashlight. The ones with the blue covers from the school library. Finally, I don’t think I’ve told you, but I read your blog every day and look forward to it . . . every day! Thank you!
Claudia says
I loved Lassie! Thank you for your kind words, Chris. I’m so glad you’re here!
