Cough. Sneeze. Blow nose. Cough. Sneeze. Blow nose.
And again. And again.
Unfortunately, I have sensitive skin and within… oh, say 5 minutes…of starting to blow my nose frequently, redness occurs. I look terrible. Oh, and my eyes get glassy. I’m looking good here at MHC, just in time for our 13th wedding anniversary, which is tomorrow. If I continue at my current pace, I will barely remember to fling a “Happy Anniversary” in Don’s direction.
Is anyone else having problems with blogs loading slowly? Mine, in particular? At times, my blog takes forever to load. And others? In a second. I can’t figure out the culprit, though I am leaning more and more toward Google Chrome. Chrome is already irritating me because I can’t get Picnik to work in Chrome. Out of the blue last week, I could no longer save a photo to my computer after I’d finished editing it. Many emails back and forth to Google/Blogger/Chrome help and I still have the problem. I uninstalled it. I installed a new version. Still, I get a message that “Flash Shockwave” has crashed. So now I’m using Firefox, which I already had installed, to use Picnik. And this crashing problem? Lots and lots of posts about it not working in Chrome.
Today, as I was noodling about trying to figure out why my blog was loading slowly in Chrome, I tried loading it in Firefox. No problem – fast, easy. So that leads me to wonder about Chrome…
I’ve also heard about a lot of problems leaving comments and one of my readers, Lucille, wrote me today to say she couldn’t leave comments and that sometimes she has a problem opening blogs, including mine.
That’s not good. I suppose it could be due to slow internet connections. I have a high speed connection and Wi-Fi here and I have to think the connection speed isn’t always consistent.
Any thoughts or wisdom to pass on would be greatly appreciated.
Go ahead. I’m a captive audience, sitting here in my flannel pajamas and blowing my nose.

I’m having not problem loading your blog in Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Opera, sweetpea. Must be the internet connection. It happens here sometimes also, especially just after school lets out for the day. ;-) Kids are home playing games and that can slow everyone down a bit. But no problem loading you today.
Try Kleenex with Lotion in it. Makes a world of difference when I need to blow my nose a lot.

I’ve heard a lot of people complain about Chrome, no better than any other browser. Flock finally bit the dust and took theirs off. Big problems with that one.

I can only speak from my own experience visiting other blogs, but it seems to me that the ones who are ‘monetized” load much slower than those that aren’t. By the time they get their ads and stat counters, etc. in, I’m sometimes tired of waiting and go on to the next blog to read.
I’m sure it’s frustrating to those who are trying to make a few bucks by adding AdSense, but it’s the only thing I see different on the ones that load so slowly.
Hope that helps.

Way tooooo early in the season to worry about the yard full of leaves – – wait ’til the last one drops, then begin to think about ’em.
Chrome is my main browser, I have not had problems downloading blogs, nor have I had trouble commenting on blogs.
Do Not use Picnik so can’t comment on that.
My friend also has problems commenting on my blog – she uses Internet Explorer
My two cents worth. And you know what the economy has done lately.

When anyone has a problem opening a blog, you can bet that the problem is on their end and not yours. Sometimes however, photos on a person’s blog can be the culprit and they may need to put of photos of lesser quality. I’ve had that happen before with headers I have designed for a few ladies. I never have a problem pulling up your blog or any others and it’s due to a good and fast internet connection as well as a fast computer. I do my best not to use photos in my header that are too large, but that’s really all a blogger can do to assure speed for their readers. Oh, and stay away from Internet Explorer at all costs.. ugh.

Sorry you are not feeling well. some blogs are slow to load, but I always thought it was just my own outdated computer. I hope you get some answers soon.

Lotion kleenex is a good suggestion. I use bag balm (originally for milk cows) to sooth (any clear balm would likely be helpful). Sore noses are SORE.
Your front page loads in stages – your content, then your background. The background is slower.
I use Safari for PicniK and Chrome for my blog.
Hope you cold goes away soon.

You have my sympathies regarding the allergies. I always want to be this great cottage gardener and then I forget that I will cough and sneeeze the whole time I’m out there.
As for blog issues – I have blogged about it before, but I still can’t leave any comments in the embedded below comment style boxes. I can only comment on pop-up style comments. It’s very annoying and it doesn’t matter which browser I’m using.
I use Firefox for now.
And they are all slower for me because the only internet connection available in my area is the wireless plug-in USB thingie. It’s definitely not super fast.
Lovely photos!

I have trouble with Firefox crashing a lot. I don’t seem to have any trouble with Chrome. It’s faster than Firefox. No, I don’t notice any slower loading either.

I am not having any problems loading your blog…but some others take time due to the fact they have so many large files on them.
MY big problem this week is my computer! It crashed! I’m using my laptop but it does not have all of my usual files saved onto it. Bummer. Hang in there…get well in time for your anniv!
And happy anniversary by the way!

I have Chrome and I pretty much love it. I went to back to Safari one day to try to get the Pinterest tools installed because I can’t get them loaded on Chrome–my one frustration with it–and found that Safari was significantly slower than Chrome. Picnik seems to work fine for me on Chrome too.
Haven’t had any trouble with your blog loading although it can take a second or two for your fonts to load.
No problems commenting on your blog either although I do have a lot of problems with people who have the comment box embedded at the bottom of the post. I can’t comment when I’m at work on my PC but have no problem when I’m home on my Mac.
Hope you’re feeling better and your computer problems resolve soon!

I use Firefox most of the time, but I have trouble in that it doesn’t always load all the pictures — on my blog or other people’s. I don’t have that problem with Chrome. They both load at the same speed.

I’m hoping that your allergies/cold will get over with SOON! I’m with the person who suggested that you wait till the last leaf falls before you worry about raking, but then you could have snow on top of them before that happens, the way your weather has been the past year!!!! I am very lucky and have very small leaves that fall in my yard. Just a run-over with the lawn mower takes care of them.
As for your blog or others loading slowly. I usually can get to yours very quickly, but it does take a minute or so for your background and font to decide what it’s going to do. But, that won’t stop me from reading your blog every chance I get.
There are some I just give up on though. I don’t know what makes them so SLOW.
I’ve had people email me that they have trouble leaving comments on my blog. I don’t know why!

No wisdom, just my kids advice…..use firefox :)
Can you tell that my daughter’s wedding is finally in the past? I have a chance to check out my favorite blogs again :)

I don’t use Chrome but use Firefox. I think AdSense and large photo files tend to add to the slow load factor.

The only suggestion I have is: Use tissues with the lotion added in……they’re great for sensitive noses.

Claudia, hope you’re better by now. I have a nice mess to show tomorrow for Reality Thurs., looking forward to joining in again.
I was finding your blog loaded a bit slowly on my MacBook (using Safari) – big black blocks appeared before it settled down and your type loaded on the white background. It seemed like your pretty blue damask background came up everywhere first and then it struggled to get that white part where text and pics load.
Well, this week I splurged and I’ve treated myself to a fabulous new MacBook Air – so much lighter and thinner for all this upcoming overseas travel, and MUCH faster. Today I’m using it – new Lion OS and still using Safari, and your blog is loading so much faster!
We have just about changed to all Apple products now – DH just uses a PC for business – quite honestly I would never go back to a PC.
Bottom line is – who knows where computer problems originate? I’m no expert for certain so can’t explain anything very technical! All I know is I love your blog ‘adopted sis’ and will wait as long as it takes to view it!!!!!
Hugs – Mary

Claudia,
I don’t know what chrome is, I’m very slow with techno stuff. But I had heard the talk of internet explorer vs firefox. I had IE so I loaded firefox on my computer & I’m having even more problems. I can’t leave comments using that browser. Ugggg! why does it have to be so complicated? I have enough problems just finding time to blog & post.
