unday mornings tend to be the only time I can explore new-to-me blogs. I sit here in the quiet and click one link, which leads me to another, which leads me to another. It reminds me of the time period when I first discovered the world of blogs. Oh my! I was like a kid in a candy store. I couldn’t believe I had finally discovered the existence of a world that had been out there all along. Remember those days?
One blog I stumbled upon a while back is The Handmade Home, a lovely design blog written by a young (to me) 30-something blogger. She has a regular feature called The Font Snob Club, where she shares interesting font sources that are free. As you know, I love fonts. Snob is not a word I like to associate with myself, but I suspect I am a bit of Font Snob. I sure appreciate an interesting and unique font and, goodness knows, I’ve changed the fonts on this blog often enough! The most recent edition of The Font Snob Club referenced an amazing site called Daily Drop Cap. Oh my goodness. Jessica Hische, an illustrator and designer, has posted an illustrative initial capital letter daily (since 2009) that you can use – for free – in your personal blog posts. They are not for commercial use.
I’ve used one at the beginning of this post. I also went back and edited my previous post and added one there. I love, love and love (again) them. There are twelve different alphabets and all you have to do is click on the letter you want to use and easy instructions for adding it to your post magically appear.
et’s try another one.
nd one more.
Be still my heart.
Stop by Daily Drop Cap and explore. You’ll be entranced. And be sure to leave a comment thanking Jessica if you use any of her Caps – I just think it’s the polite thing to do.
Have a wonderful Sunday.

Claudia! Oh my gosh the power of synchronicity! I was just posting on another blog and talked about my need to begin exploring more creative fonts. I hate the fonts that are available to me on Type pad and I’ve never been able to figure out how to access the few different fonts that are available on Type Pad (I’m required to go to another site, put in a code and then the fonts are supposed to work). Well, they never have, bummer.
Love the S that you used in the beginning of this posting. Love the way your blog design is evolving. and your navigation buttons are adorable. Off for a Sunday drive in the camero because the sun is shining again! Have a lovely Sunday Claudia.

Oh my goodness! Jessica’s fonts are so fun!! I found the perfect one for my most recent post, involving a needle and thread.
Thank you so much for sharing her link. Love, love, love!
Hugs,

Oh- I LOVE seeing all the different fonts people use and I am sooo bad at trying to figure out how to do it. I LOVE the ones you show here. I am going to go over and see if I can figure it out. Thanks! xo Diana

What a cool post! Its so fun discovering new interesting blogs isn’t it? I will certainly check this one out. Thanks!
Blessings, Joanne
P.S thanks again for your recent comment…I think the “ink” they used on the eggs were really melted colored wax. Each layer of dye was followed by more designs in wax and so that way when it was melted off all these beautiful colors appeared…I’m going to try this method and see what happens! Have a great day!

Ooooh, I love the drop caps! I’m going over to see what’s on Jessica’s site. Thanks for the tip.
Sorry I haven’t been around much the last week or so, I’m busy with plants getting ready for our yearly Expo, our Master Gardeners’ main fund raiser. It’ll be this coming Saturday, so hopefully next week things will be back to normal.
No luck on the house hunting so far. I’ve been thinking that when I start that new chapter of my life, I may start another blog. Can’t decide just what to name our soon-to-be farm, that’s probably what I’ll call my blog, too.

OH, I’m glad you shared this … hopping over there next. I’ve been wasting so much font time trying to come up with my watermark.

Oh those caps are just charming! Thanks for the link, Claudia! They look lovely on your blog.

What a great link, thank you Claudia. I’m a huge font fan too, in fact I’ve just been to a lot of trouble to embed a new font over at knitsofacto. Good typography is important to me, but it’s in my blood, my Grandpa and his forebears were all typesetters!
