Bokeh-ing

December 20, 2018 at 9:34 am by Claudia

I stayed home all day yesterday waiting for package to be delivered.

It came at 9:45 p.m.. (If I’d only known!)

Seriously, our UPS guy works incredibly long hours at this time of year. I don’t know how he does it.

Anyway, I got out my special lens for capturing bokeh and played around a bit. Side note – I was trying to capture bokeh with my iPhone but it just doesn’t cut it.

There we go! The secret is to focus on something in the foreground. Since we have a small tree and not a tall real tree as we used to, it’s a bit more challenging.

Monty wearing his holiday wreath.

And this one, with the newest member of my Vintage by Crystal collection: Deer Sitter. It can be hung as an ornament, but I will just place it near the tree.

Here it is, in late afternoon light:

The whimsical detail that Crystal puts into everything she creates blows me away.

I’m so entranced with everything in her deliciously charming line of spun cotton figures.

I have to get going and run some errands. I lost time yesterday waiting for that package, but I did manage to do some laundry, deal with some blog issues, and take these pictures. I have to go into the city on Saturday to do some coaching, so I want to finish things up (except for baking) today.

Happy Thursday.

beautiful bokeh in those photos of your charming, cozy home! crystal’s creations are very sweet and fit in perfectly.

too bad you had such a long wait on the package, but glad it arrived. sounds like you filled the day so hopefully today is easier. :)

yes … many thanks to the deliverers working long hours so our packages arrive in time.

i am waiting for one more delivery (ack … where is it?!) … but in ten short, decreasing rows of knitting and a little kitchener stitching, the second sock will also be ready for my father in time for Christmas (huge relief)!!!! :)

hope you have a nice day today with reading and baking and time with don (nice haircut … long or short, he has great hair)! and that the travel and work on saturday go well.

i am going to finish that sock now!

Lovely photos. It looks so magical! Oh the new figure is charming. She does such an amazing job. I’ve got to take Mom for an electrocardiogram today. It just a check up thing. My kids Dad is have angioplasty surgery today so we are anxious about that. This time of year is treacherous for me. Hugs.

They found more damage to his heart then the stint could fix so they are sending him to another hospital today and they will schedule Heart bypass surgery. So more worries but we are praying.

Oh, that is worrying. But bypass surgery is done all the time and it should all work out okay. Sending prayers.

Claudia, sometimes I love having an in the house Day but many times I get cabin fever if I’m forced to stay home, as in expecting a delivery. Today is a mixture. I need to go grocery shopping, as I finished the last of the vegetables last night. However, that will come either before or after my wait for AAA to arrive either to jump my car battery or install a new one. At least, I hope it’s the battery that’s the problem. Otherwise, the car will have to be towed to a garage for fixing. Sigh, car stuff, definitely not my thing.

I hope it was just the battery, Wendy! I had to have mine replaced last year on a very wintry day (Don was in NYC.) I hope it’s all resolved.

Claudia, a very nice and very competent emergency roadside serviceperson came to my driveway and after his analysis, showed me on his device that told us not only was my battery dead, it wouldn’t hold a charge. This was the original battery, and had a terrific run, lasting 2 more years than the usual 10-years. So, he changed it. I didn’t have to contend with a wintry day, but it was cold and very gray, like today.

I didn’t get a new camera. I used my regular camera with a special lens that I’ve had for several years, Jeanie.

Read today’s post, Donnamae. I’m not going to do much with it as I want to honor the person who built it.

Poor UPS guys: If their tour is planned, there is no time calculated for the loading. My colleage at school (she had ordered a sofa for the students’ lounge) waited for the package until 8 pm last Wednesday. The UPS “employees” work long hours and get payed a minimum wage. So people feel bad and tip them, which makes them live from the godwill of people, kind of charity. Hurrey to God Economy! Unfortunately, you can’t be sure that the package will be delivered by (Swiss) postal services, which still pay fair wages and have benefits.

My UPS guy routinely works 12 or more hours a day at this time of year. I don’t know how he does it. They rack up a lot of overtime and they’re paid well for that overtime.

Your photos are lovely! I love seeing Monty up close and personal. Deer Sitter is probably my personal favorite Crystal creation that you have. It’s delightfully whimsical (as are all her works) but so proudly hopeful–into the future bright and fearless!!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
