Another frost last night. And another tonight. The coleus didn’t make it, nor did the morning glories. This morning, the zinnias are looking pretty brown. After having put all the plants back out on the porch yesterday, we had to bring them all back in last night. They’ll stay here until tomorrow morning when the weather will get warmer. Unfortunately, the gardens will be dead. Depressing.
We got our boosters yesterday and the drive to and from the neighboring town was gorgeous. I don’t know if we’re at peak color yet, but we’re awfully close. Mountains in the distance, leaves drifting down, color everywhere. It was sunny and beautiful. Then the weather turned cloudy and windy after we got home. But we sure appreciated the drive.
As for the shots, late in the day my arm got really sore and I was tired, but I only took a brief 5 minute nap. I conked out for an hour after my previous shots. Don’s arm is also sore and he feels minor flu-like symptoms, but that will go away after today. We’re taking it easy today.
When I’m a bit tired or down, I dress a doll.
No, Imogen hasn’t turned grey, that’s sunlight reflecting on her hair.
She’s taking Bertie for a walk. I made both of the hats. Bertie’s hat was the result of a crochet experiment that didn’t work out. But it did work out for Bertie, who can now take a walk without his ears getting cold.
If only I had the wardrobe these girls have! Although, I don’t think I’d look nearly as cute as they do.
Stay safe.
Happy Thursday.

Glad the jabs went well. I don’t worry about the plants going with the frost. It is the end of one season but the blooms will be back before we know it in the Spring season. Even winter has its own beauty.
Claudia says
I, on the other hand, dread the onset of winter, so my plants dying really hits me hard.
Stay safe, Ellen.

glad you and don got immunized. hopefully the soreness goes away soon and don quickly feels better, too.
can be sad to see garden plants changing, especially given how much care you give them and how much happiness and peace nature brings. while i dread the hardships of winter and the risks that come with ice and sleet, i do see what ellen said … the beauty of winter … so will try to prepare for and focus on that. just not yet!
while i skip suspenders, i’d happily take an outfit like imogen’s, including the cute caps you made for her and bertie. good work!
with all the shock and sadness of the last three days, i’ve spent a lot of time and stress-energy trying to make my apartment feel better. puttered (moved things around), lit a candle, dusted, vacuumed … things i enjoy. can’t say it changed my thoughts and feelings about what happened next door, but my little place looks better so that’s something.
been very cold here lately (morning lows at 29 degrees), but it’s supposed to reach the 70s today through the weekend and we might then get some rain, an actual thunderstorm, not just sprinkles. sounds good to me!
hope you, don and everyone else here have a nice day and stay safe.

I went back in your comments to see what you were referring to. I am so sorry for your neighbor and for you. I can’t even imagine the pain they must be going through. I hope that you will be able to work through all this, and not move since you really do like your place. Sending hugs! ;)

hej, donnamae. :)
thank you.
i am very sad for sam, for whatever he went through that made him think suicide was the answer. i am very sad for his family and what they are going through. may God rest sam’s soul and comfort his family.
life is beautiful in so many ways, but also hard. may God bless and keep safe everyone here, all your families and friends and the whole world.
hope you and your family are well and happy. stay safe.
no decision yet about moving … trying to let God lead me (though, to be honest, i have looked online for apartments and there’s really nothing available that i’d choose right now).
thanks again for your support, donnamae. sending a hug right back to you.

As I said to Ellen, I get quite blue in the winter, so I dread its onset. My plants dying has always upset me and always will.
Winter can be beautiful, but only for a short time.
It’s very cold here, as well. We should start warming up tomorrow.
Stay safe, Kathy.
Donnamae says
Glad to hear the jabs went well.
I am always sad when my coleus is hit by a freeze. I have several pots of them scattered about front and back, and I will miss their loveliness. But the hydrangeas look especially lovely this year as their colors change for winter. I’m thinking it’s because of all the rain we got this year.
Rest today….and enjoy your day! ;)
Claudia says
I will really miss my coleus plants too. They are indeed lovely.
Stay safe, Donnamae.
Elaine in Toronto says
How cute are Imogene and Bertie? They make a lovely pair. Do your girls argue over who will take Bertie for his walk?
Glad you got your shots out of the way. Another thing ticked off the to-do list. And you had a pleasant drive on a beautiful fall day.
It’s sad to see your garden ravaged by frost when you have tended it so lovingly. But I think a garden has a strange beauty in fall and winter. Take gentle care. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
I’m not there yet. I always try to see the beauty of winter, but I get very blue during the winter and it seems to get worse the older I get.
Stay safe, Elaine.
Elaine in Toronto says
I hear you, Claudia. That’s probably because the winters are worse the older we get and as we age, winters are really difficult and we are maybe less able to cope with them. Last winter here in Ontario was brutal both for the amount of snow and the freezing temperatures. I was in the hospital for 5 weeks from January 24th till March 2 so I missed most of it. But my hsband came to see me almost every day unless the weather was really bad. He took public transportation as it was difficult to find a parking space at the hospital. Some nights going home he had to wait for over an hour in the freezing cold. Other times the bus came right away and he was home in half an hour. It’s a winter I’ll never forget. Hope this year Mother Nature will be kind to all of us. Hugs, Elaine
Claudia says
Your poor husband! But what a lovely devoted man he must be. Bless him.
Yes, let’s hope for a milder winter, Elaine.
Stay safe.

Felt like I knew him
How great
He is terrific
Claudia says
Don has done several episodes of the various Law and Orders. 7 or 8, maybe?
So happy you got to see him, Brenda.
Stay safe!

I was working a puzzle and watching. I got so excited…I said, “That is Don!” No one here so I chuckled…I have seen him on the shows before and Frazier too. I did not watch television when we had our business or when I taught. Since 2013, I have been getting caught up…he was good too.
Claudia says
He’s an amazing actor, Brenda.
Thank you so much

The complimented his Irish accent and asked how hard it was to learn it. He said that when he got the part he asked for his teacher in grad school, over twenty years ago—Claudia Hill Sparks—to be hired as his coach, and it (the accent) was due to you and ongoing work on it!

Glad the booster shots went ok, with just a bit of soreness….and your drive sounded gorgeous! I love Autumn leaves.
Imogene and Bertie look so cute…they all have such a nice wardrobe…. I’d like some of their things in my size!

So would I!!!
Thanks so much, Barrie.

Claudia,
I give you credit for moving plants…..in and out of the house. I only brought in my orchids and most of my cactus, but the hibiscus and impatiens are still on the porch where they will stay until the first hard frost. I too had a shot today, the flu shot. I had my fifth Covid booster two weeks earlier. For some reason, I am extremely tired today. Doug brought home Wonton Soup….and I am going to bed early tonight. This is a beautiful season, but I suffer from SAD and fight the feelings of depression daily. I try to get as much sunlight as possible. Today, I am giving in and after a hot shower….to bed and an old movie. The next few days should be glorious, sun and a bit warmer. We will take out boat for the last sail before it gets drydocked for the winter. Love the dolls and clothing and the poses. I would have loved them as a child. Thank you for continuing your blog. I feel that it has been a touchstone during the past three years. Stay safe.

I also suffer from SAD. I understand.
Bed and an old movie sounds lovely, Maria.
I’m so glad you’re here.
Stay safe, Maria.

Glad you got boosted and had a lovely drive as a bonus!! We had our flu shots yesterday and we get boosted tomorrow. We have the wee one overnight tomorrow night, so I am hoping we just have the sore arms this time around. Chasing and keeping up with a 2 1/2 year old is hard enough when we feel well. Take care.
Claudia says
I must salute you for that! Toddlers can be adorable but exhausting!
Stay safe, Chris.
Jill says
Glad you are mostly ok after your booster.
We haven’t yet had any frost but it ha been super chilly in the mornings.
