Brisk Mornings

September 6, 2024 at 8:53 am by Claudia

Fading goldenrod.

Another chilly morning. I’m wearing a sweater over my pajamas. I know we’re in for some warmer temperatures in a week or so, but so far the change in overnight temperatures has been quite dramatic. And it all occurred in the first week of September.

Both Don and I are indulging in book reading. I always am, of course, but Don is often doing things other than reading. He’s cracked open another Jim Harrison book. After doing my morning walk at the library yesterday, I checked out yet another Harrison that I had on hold. So he’s set for the time being. I’m just about to finish Hellbent, and then I’ll start the next book in the Orphan X series.

I’m liking these chillier, cuddlier mornings. The air is brisk!

Don books the talent for a concert series in a town north of us – the concerts are on the first Friday of the month. Tonight is the last one for the season and I’m going with him. A friend of ours is singing. If you remember, one of our friends died last year from a rare form of pneumonia and Michelle was his partner in life and art. They performed together. One of the first things Don did last year was to ask her if she would be willing to perform in this series. She said yes. She has been slowly getting out there, performing solo. I can’t wait to hear her.

And we have appointments for a Covid vaccination next Monday, as well as the flu shot. We’ll also get RSV, but on another day. We had a little reaction to that last year, so we’re handing that separately. Edited to add: Thanks to my cousin, I now know that RSV is a one-time shot, so we don’t need to get it this year.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

Sounds like you and Don are enjoying this “sweater weather”. Sounds cozy. Enjoy the concert and seeing your friend. Have a great weekend. Hugs, Elaine

You’re welcome to come visit anytime. We were at Drummond Island a couple of years ago to see it but I don’t think Gordy was around.
Our doctor said you only get the RSV shot once. Did you hear differently? He also said to wait on the Covid shot until the new one came out. Are you getting the new one? I always feel like I’m in the dark about this stuff. What have you heard?
Time for a sweater here too.

The new Covid is out and has been for a week or so, so I assume we’re getting it. But I’ll ask when we’re there.

Hmmm. Haven’t heard that about the RSV, but I’ll check into it.

Just checked. You’re right! Only one dose and we got that last year. Thanks, cousin!

      Stay safe, Eileen.

the concert sounds wonderful (also bittersweet); glad you are going. am sure it will be nice for you all to see each other tonight. congratulations and thanks to don for putting together that series … not much i’d put ahead of live music for entertainment. peace to your friend michelle.

glad you and don have some books at hand.

i am about halfway through the third “vanderbeekers” book (began them on september 01) … quick reads. bringing up memories from my childhood … sweet.

we are in a short stretch of cooler days, too, then for a few days temperatures will get into the upper 80s. i am liking the cooler temperatures much better … easier.

    happy, safe friday to everyone.

Same here – much cooler temps, then back to the low 80s – maybe one last gasp?

      Stay safe, Kathy.

meant to add that the only thing above live music, for “formal entertainment” for me, is staying in to watch a favorite movie or tv show with my favorite people beside me.

carry on, don and company! :)

Cooler temps here, too. And then a warm up next week. Too much back and forth. From sweater to t shirt in 24 hours…my body is confused lol. And, I’m ready for fall.

I was going to wait until October for my shots…figure by then the new vaccines would be available. My husband got an RSV shot last year…and he was told by the pharmacist that he wouldn’t need another one. I’m planning on getting my RSV later.

    Enjoy the concert! ;)

Same here. We have both had the RSV so we don’t need a new one. Walgreen’s says they have the new vaccine available. I guess I should check on that today to make sure it’s there. But I’ve been hearing from lots of people that it’s already available.

      Thanks, Donnamae.

      Stay safe.

thanks for reminding me to schedule my Covid and Flu shot. I want the new Moderna shot…. and it is available. I wait about a week between shots because I do get a minor reaction. Looking forward to seeing family in three more weeks and want to be prepared. I never got Covid, but my husband did. Thank goodness we have the vaccine.

Stay safe everyone….just finished reading Relentless, and will be at the book signing in Philadelphia in a couple weeks. Remember bookstores? Now all we have here are Barnes and Noble…..

I am now in the process getting my books together to donate them …. I would be interested to know what you do with yours….

I donate my to my local library and have for years. They have an annual booksale. And if the book is in excellent condition, sometimes they’ll add it to their shelves.

      Stay safe.

I wrote about this a week ago Maria. I told everyone I was going to have comments moderated until the election is over. I have had some rather vile comments.

I have to check the date on my last Covid vaccine. Seems like I didn’t get it that long ago. I’m glad to hear that I don’t need to get another RSV shot but I know that Fall is Flu vaccine time so thanks for the reminder on that!
I just checked out the new book by Ketanji Brown Jackson, “Lovely One”. Another blogger I follow is the collaborator for the book and I am excited to read it.
    Happy Friday, Claudia!

I didn’t know RSV was one time, so thanks for that. I got Covid shot this week, (which relieves me before getting on a plane) and will get flu, probably next. Last time I did them together, not good — and I do get a strong reaction from the Covid one.

I want to hunker down. Schedule isn’t letting me. Still recovering from the fall, trying to ready for England, reclaim my house after summer, prep for a trip to Stratford (Ont.) in a week. Have a fistful of doc appointments, find a therapist or counselor, and connect with a friend visiting for a couple of days next week. (Fortunately, she is staying elsewhere so I don’t have to clean the house TOO much!) I don’t know how life got so out of hand.

I didn’t know either! My cousin left a comment saying she thought it was one-time-only.

I went to Stratford often when I was living in Michigan. Have a good time.

      Stay safe, Jeanie.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
