Bunnies, Bears, Chicks, and Roosters

March 13, 2024 at 8:31 am by Claudia

We’re trying to cope with the time change – not very successfully – and the after effects of the wind event. Basically, we’re stuffed up and sleepy.

Robins were sighted for the first time yesterday! And I just saw another pair on the front lawn. Hurrah! It’s officially spring!

Here we go.

On the left, my other Walking Ware egg cup. Love the green shoes and pink and white socks. Made by Carlton in England.

Next – a chick emerging from an egg cup. This was a gift from my mom, who started looking for egg cups once she learned that I was collecting them.

Another Fanny Farmer egg cup – you can see Fanny Farmer written on the base of the cup. I have two of these and they were a gift from a reader of this blog.

And an intense bunny. Is she worried? Surprised? Shocked? Scared? A lovely little cup with pale green accents – subtly painted in soft colors.

On the left, another intense bunny on a blue egg cup.

Next – one of the first egg cups I purchased. It’s a rooster cup made by Holt Howard. It was  in impeccable condition until I bumped into a shelf one day and it went crashing to the floor. Repaired by me.

Next – a lovely little gold lustreware egg cup with flowers that is being pulled by a bear. This was a gift from my friend Lynnie in Canada.

And on the right, a tiny little cup with a bunny either holding it up or peeking out from the side. That’s a flower on the other side. He’s dressed in orange and blue.

Once again, all of these egg cups are vintage.

I like these tours. It’s like visiting old friends and it gives me great pleasure to focus on them once again.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

i enjoy these egg cup tours, too. thank you! they are all sweet, but today’s favorites (for me) are the chick and chicken as they are side by side looking at each other. also that you have some egg cups as gifts from your mother, don and scout.

something sweet here was seen on a recent ride. while still in town, we passed a house with a solid wood fence around their backyard (i’d do the same as it’s on a very, very busy street). what is sweet is that the homeowners love their dogs so much that they not only put in the fence to help keep them safe from lots of traffic, but they also installed several windows at lower levels in the fence for their dogs to be able to watch some of the world go by. i love that!

happy, safe wednesday and every day to you all.

ps … i am sure those windows are plexiglass, not breakable glass … safe for the pups. :)

also, doing okay with the time change? still dragging a bit here, but getting better.

Yes, I’ve seen that kind of fence in posts on Instagram. I think it’s such a sweet thing to do.

More fun egg cups. It’s really nice to have the surrounding story of who gave one to you, where you got another…makes it special, especially when gifted by your mom and Don, and friends. I really wish we would stop changing the clocks!

I’m stuffy and tired too. It will take me at least a week to adjust to the time change.
I always enjoy seeing your egg cups. My favorite in this group is the whimsical walking egg cup!
    Take care

Not surprisingly, I’m especially fond of anything with bunnies or chickens and you have some four star offerings on display today! I love them all!

dear Claudia/Don — thank you for sharing these items — so do you like “dusting” all these pieces? one thing I hate is the chore of dusting — OR is it just that the “chore” is too much like work which I am allergic to, haha!! do you have a “script” re where each one is from and who gave it — I would need that. we have had one or two robins all winter but now we have many — just getting music tuned up for summer concerts — very nice to hear — here, when we see a red wing blackbird we know spring is on the way — saw the 1st one second week of Feb with lots and lots out there now. hope a good day for you/Don stay safe/healthy

I don’t have to dust them because they’re inside a glass cabinet. Hurrah! I do not like dusting.

No, I don’t have a script. And sometimes I can’t remember which of my readers gave me something…and I have to go back in the archives to see if I wrote it down in some post.

I heard red wing blackbirds a few weeks ago on a walk, so I knew they were back!

      Stay safe, Linda.

I happen to love the time change but neither the one in Spring nor the one in Autumn affect me other than grumbling in the Autumn about the shorter daylight hours.

I love your egg cup tours too, Claudia. What adhesive did you use to repair your rooster egg cup?

Well, it’s not so bad if you live in California. It is a big change when you live in the Northeast – at least to me. It didn’t bother me so much when I lived in San Diego.

Also, it seems to be tougher the older we get.

I have no idea what adhesive I used! It was many years ago, Wendy.

      Thanks so much!

      Stay safe.

I always enjoy the egg cup tour. The wind and the pollen have me feeling so poorly it’s awful. I’m still cleaning out Mom’s place and getting ready to move. I want this over and done with. Ugh!

I like the one with the wee brown bear. Lovely to see robins in March. Can Spring be far behind? I’ve just updated my browser (long overdue) and I’m surprised at the learning curve. Everything seems the same but different. I had to bake brownies because I was getting cranky, lol. Hugs, Elaine

I enjoy getting to benefit from the egg-cup tours; they’re all so different, like the lustreware bear (I’ve never seen anything like that!).

BTW, I totally ‘get you’ on the time change, coupled with my husband not getting ‘the usual’ Saturdays-Sundays for his days off from work (I am SO mixed up the past days; and really feeling tired [hopefully we’ll all perk up soon!]).

Agree with other commenters here about enjoying the vintage egg cups. I’ve followed your blog for so long, I consider your “tour” one of the first signs of spring, LOL.

I feel your daylight savings time struggle. I wish they’d get rid of it. Yesterday the guy the construction company put in charge of our main bath reno texted to ask if it was OK for him to bring their subcontractors for electrical and plumbing over at 8 am. yesterday. Me: you mean 8? In the morning?! I had to set the alarm on my phone. I’m having real trouble getting to sleep at night in the first place since the time change and waking up later now. Now today it’s raining and my energy level is at rock bottom. Think I’ll make some headway in my latest book.

    Take care,
    Kay

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
