A Favorite Thing #44

July 5, 2013 at 8:00 pm by Claudia

afavoritething

Welcome to week number 44 of A Favorite Thing. I’m so glad you’re here.

Before we move on to highlights from last week, I want to let you know that I will be taking next week off. I have two long days of work in Manhattan on Saturday and Sunday, which will involve about a 12 to 13 hour day both days. I just won’t have the time to prepare the post and/or visit you. So we’ll take next week off and resume again on July 20th. Thanks!

Let’s look at some highlights from last week:

peonie2

Chy from Our Little House in the Big Woods, shared her peony buds with us. Chy lives in Canada and her peonies are late to bloom this year. She knows how much I love peonies! Thank you, Chy, for giving me another glimpse of these beauties.

Blog Orchid 3 01

Daphne, of Ivy, Phyllis and Me, shared her beautiful orchids with us. Not only that, she also gave some great tips for growing them. I love orchids and I just might try my hand at growing them. Thanks, Daphne!

moms blackberry pie

And finally, Michelle of The Bashful Nest shared this incredibly tasty looking pie with us. It’s Blackberry Crumb Pie, made by a bakery in her town called Mom’s Apple Pie. Isn’t that the best name for a bakery? I am a certified pie lover – I’ll always go for a pie instead of cake. I would like a piece, Michelle. Pretty please?

This week I am highlighting one of my favorite things in the world. In fact, I have it every day. Like clockwork.

peets

I love coffee. I love this coffee – Peet’s French Roast. It’s the only coffee I drink. If I can’t get it already ground, I buy the whole beans and grind it right there in the grocery store. I buy a bag of it to take with me on the road. If I’m only going to be gone 2 or 3 days, I measure out the precise amount I will need and put it in a plastic container. 3 scoops. 6 cups. Which really equals about 3 mugs full. I only drink it in the morning, never after 12 noon. If I drink it later in the day, I have trouble sleeping. To me, it’s the best coffee in the world.

Now, it’s your turn.

You can link up anytime from this evening through Sunday. Make sure you enter the URL of your post. If you’re unsure how to do that, just click on your post title after you’ve published it and copy the information in your browser address window. Come back here, paste the URL into your link entry and there you go! If you have any problems, drop me an email and I’ll help you out. Please link back to this blog on your post. That way, those that read your post and are interested in reading more can do so.

One of my concerns about link parties is that the very reason for them has somewhat gone by the wayside. They’ve become so big and there are so many of them that many bloggers don’t take the time to visit any of the other participants. Link parties are a way to meet new bloggers and share with each other and the only way to do that is to visit each other. So, please, take some time to visit everyone over the next few days. No rush. Stop by, introduce yourself, and leave a comment. It’s the neighborly thing to do. It’s also nice if you leave a comment here, as well.

Enjoy!

A Favorite Thing #43

June 28, 2013 at 8:00 pm by Claudia

Welcome to week number 43 of A Favorite Thing! I’m waterlogged from all the rain we’ve had; when it hasn’t been raining, I’ve been just as waterlogged from the humidity. Nevertheless, I’ve been trying to grab some time to mow the lawn. Rain = grass too long. Anyway, let’s look at some highlights from last week:

tablecloth

Virginia Retro shared a visit to the Flea Market and this beautiful vintage tablecloth she found there. Yep, she brought it home with her. I love vintage tablecloths.

DSCN4233PinReady-1024x768

We Call It Junkin shared a tutorial on how to make this punch bowl ring. Isn’t it gorgeous? This is the kind of thing I never think to make!

And Lorrie of Fabric Paper Thread shared the bouquet she made simply by strolling through her garden with her clippers. So lovely!

My favorite thing this week is this:

wroughtironthingy

I have unimaginatively named it The Wrought Iron Thingy. Shameful, I know. I found it four years ago at a flea market in Southern California. I was working out there for an extended period of time and found quite a few little treasures at my favorite haunts. I think this is from Mexico. I just fell for the rusty-but-once-white wrought iron and the shape of it. I knew I could use it in many ways. At the end of my stay, I had it packed in a big old box and shipped it home. At first, I placed it on the kitchen table and decorated it for the seasons. But then I painted my kitchen table white and I didn’t want The Wrought Iron Thingy to scratch the paint. Plus, it’s big and takes up a lot of room. So now it lives on the porch and I like it there. I think I’ve found the perfect place for it.

Now it’s your turn.

A Favorite Thing #42

Welcome to A Favorite Thing #42! I love our little weekly gathering; such a wonderful group of people comes together every Friday and Saturday. Thank you so much for taking part.

Let’s look at some highlights from last week.

Cottage Making Mommy shared what was blooming around her farm. Those tomatoes are looking pretty tasty.

phonetableafter1

Helen, of And Who Says You Can’t, shared her transformation of an old phone table. Go look at her post and see the before – amazing transformation!

wilerturm4

Regula shared the climb she and her husband made up the stairs in this structure – 189 steps – in order to take in an incredible view. My heart is beating way too fast at just the thought of it! If you click on the link, you’ll see the view from the top.

My favorite thing this week? My garden. Gardening. Everything to do with the gardens I have built over the past 7 years here at the cottage. It just may be that nothing makes me happier. Truly. I look around here at our property and our cottage, where there is always something growing and blooming – where there are textures, colors, a thousand different shades of green – and I feel incredible happiness. Earlier today I was saying to Don that I wished I could garden all year round. And I do. But, maybe, just maybe, I appreciate it all the more because of our four seasons. I just know I’m incredibly grateful for finally having my own garden after living in city apartments and rental cottages for most of my life.

Now it’s your turn.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
