A Favorite Thing #41

Welcome to A Favorite Thing #41! Off we go on another adventure, visiting our blogging friends and sharing our favorite things.

Let’s look at some highlights from last week:

DSC01637

Lady Hawthorne, of Canterbury Cottage, shared her framed St. Nicholas with us. St. Nicholas was a cross stitch design and when it was finally finished, Lady Hawthorne found the perfect frame. Didn’t she do beautiful work?

Karen, of Karen’s Cottage and Castle, shared some lovely things, among them these beautiful pink roses from her garden. So pretty!

Georgie 15

Sally Annie Magundy shared her beloved Georgie with us. Sally adopted him when he was 12 years old. Two months after adopting him, she found out he had inoperable cancer. He was supposed to live 3 – 4 more days. Six months later, he’s hanging in there. He’s happy. I love this story. Consider adopting an older dog. We all need to be loved.

This week I am sharing something simple. It’s been lacking a bit around here lately but boy, when it’s here, I revel in it.

sky

Sunlight and a beautiful blue sky with fluffy clouds. Ah…..this makes me happy. After a week of endless, heavy rain, this particular photo brings a smile to my face.

Now it’s your turn!

You can link up anytime from this evening through Sunday. Make sure you enter the URL of your post. If you’re unsure how to do that, just click on your post title after you’ve published it and copy the information in your browser address window. Come back here, paste the URL into your link entry and there you go! If you have any problems, drop me an email and I’ll help you out. Please link back to this blog on your post. That way, those that read your post and are interested in reading more can do so.

One of my concerns about link parties is that the very reason for them has somewhat gone by the wayside. They’ve become so big and there are so many of them that many bloggers don’t take the time to visit any of the other participants. Link parties are a way to meet new bloggers and share with each other and the only way to do that is to visit each other. So, please, take some time to visit everyone over the next few days. No rush. Stop by, introduce yourself, and leave a comment. It’s the neighborly thing to do. It’s also nice if you leave a comment here, as well.

Have fun!

A Favorite Thing #40

Hello! Can it be possible that we are on our 40th A Favorite Thing? That number sounds so solid, doesn’t it? 40 weeks of this weekly get-together! It sure has been a delight for me to host this gathering of wonderful people. Thank you.

Let’s look at some highlights from last week:

1

Sheila, of Note Songs, shared this gorgeous dragon tea set that is her mother’s. Isn’t it striking? It’s been a part of Sheila’s life since she was a little girl.

Cindy, of Cottage Instincts, found this piece of McCoy Pottery for – get this – $4.00. Anyone who reads this blog knows that I collect McCoy and I don’t have this piece. Sigh. Lucky Cindy!

Pat, of Corn in My Coffee Pot, shared her newly adopted, adorable dog with us. The post was entitled ‘Drop Off Dogs’ – around her neck of the woods, people find a yard with toys in it and drop dogs off in the dead of night, hoping, I suppose, that someone will fall for the poor dog. Makes me crazy. When I lived in San Diego, people did the same thing but they dropped the dogs off in the canyons. I don’t understand it. Why not take it to a shelter? Or a Veterinary Hospital? Even better, a no-kill shelter? Oh, don’t get me going on this one. I’m just so glad that Pat and her husband were the ones to discover this adorable darling. His name is Buster. He now has a forever home.

This week my favorite things are:

Peonies. Peonies are my absolute favorite flower. What’s not to love? The blooms are lush, the scent is heavenly, and they only bloom for a short time in early summer, thereby keeping their mysterious elusiveness intact. The first week of June is always the bloom time for my peonies. We are getting SO MUCH RAIN, however, that I have to run out and rescue them when I can. Peonies don’t stand up well to heavy downpours.

A Favorite Thing #39

May 31, 2013 at 8:00 pm by Claudia

afavoritething

Hello everyone and welcome to A Favorite Thing #39. It’s been a crazy week weather-wise: one day cool and rainy, the next in the nineties and humid. Some of you are dealing with tornados. And it’s only May!

I just have to note that tomorrow is my parents’ 67th Wedding Anniversary. Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!

Let’s look at some highlights from last week:

=b

Karen, from My Little Home and Garden spotlighted May’s flower, the lovely Lily of the Valley. It’s always been a favorite of mine, as well; such a delicate, pretty flower. And Karen, I remember that perfume! It was a favorite of many of my mom’s friends.

Eilish 005

Julie, of Julie’s Little House, shared her favorite thing – her new kitten, Eilish. Oh goodness. Look at that adorable little ball of fur! I would find it very hard to resist that face. Congratulations, Julie!

waffles

Lynda of The Auld Grey Mare, shared this recipe for Almond Flour Coconut Waffles. My mouth is watering as I type this and gaze upon her photo. They sound delicious. Thanks, Lynda.

This week my favorite thing is an essential. It helps to make this blog possible. It is never far from my side. It has enlarged my world and the way I view it. It’s my camera.

753762

When I started this blog, I had a tiny Canon point-and-shoot. Then, a few years later, I graduated to a Canon Bridge Camera – sort of the top of the line in that category – and I loved it. I wasn’t ready at the time for a camera that would take different lenses. I still have that camera. But as the blog grew, my photography skills grew and I found myself wanting one of the Canon Rebel line of cameras, DSLRs that are very user-friendly.

Finally, after a few years of dreaming and hoping, we managed to get enough money together to buy one for my Christmas present. I still have a lot to learn, but boy, do I love it! Now I want a telescopic lens. And a macro lens. But for now, I’m content with the two lenses I have and the joy of using my Canon Rebel T3i. It is, along with my laptop, one of the tools that I consider an absolute essential.

Now, it’s your turn!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
