A Favorite Thing #32

April 12, 2013 at 8:00 pm by Claudia

It’s the end of the work week for some of you and that means it’s time for A Favorite Thing! Number 32, to be precise. I hope you’ve all had a good week and are seeing some signs of spring in your neighborhoods. Goodness knows, it’s been a long time coming!

Let’s look at some highlights from last week:

Hoosier 002

Denise, of Second Time Around Finds, showed us her latest find: a Hoosier Cabinet. I’ve always wanted one of these and her cabinet looks particularly nifty. Denise also collects vintage pyrex – doesn’t it look great in her cabinet? She’s a girl after my own heart.

MT BAKER AND SILO

JoAnn of Scene Through My Eyes, shared many different views of one of her favorite things: Mt. Baker. What a glorious mountain! Lucky JoAnn, to have this view close at hand.

Leisa, of Day by Day, shared one of her favorite photographs from her travels. This was taken in a little beach town in Venezuela. Her post is entitled, Beautiful Decay. And it is beautiful.

This week I’m sharing one of our favorite things. I say ‘our’ because Don and I found it when we were looking through a tiny antique shop. We both stopped, stared and promptly fell in love with it. It’s the Bunny Rabbit Cookie Jar on the left. I’m crazy about rabbits. (And sheep. And all animals.) And we’re rather fond of the rabbits that share our property with us. But it was the quirkiness of the design that drew us in: the legs that are handles, the legs at the bottom of the jar, the slightly crazed look in the bunny’s eyes, almost as if to say “How did I get turned into a cookie jar??” And then there’s the bow tie, the polka dots and the wonderful colors.

I’ve never seen another one like this. By the way, I didn’t take a picture of the back, but there’s a cute little cotton tail back there. The antique dealer agreed with us that this particular piece might be English in origin. It just has that look to it. But, alas, there are no markings, so we can’t be sure.

Now it’s your turn!

You can link up anytime from this evening through Sunday. Make sure you enter the URL of your post. If you’re unsure how to do that, just click on your post title after you’ve published it and copy the information in your browser address window. Come back here, paste the URL into your link entry and there you go! If you have any problems, drop me an email and I’ll help you out. Please link back to this blog on your post. That way, those that read your post and are interested in reading more can do so.

One of my concerns about link parties is that the very reason for them has somewhat gone by the wayside. They’ve become so big and there are so many of them that many bloggers don’t take the time to visit any of the other participants. Link parties are a way to meet new bloggers and share with each other and the only way to do that is to visit each other. So, please, take some time to visit everyone over the next few days. No rush. Stop by, introduce yourself, and leave a comment. It’s the neighborly thing to do. It’s also nice if you leave a comment here, as well.

Have fun!

A Favorite Thing #31

April 5, 2013 at 8:00 pm by Claudia

afavoritething

Hello, everyone! Welcome to A Favorite Thing #31. I thought we had a pretty nifty turnout last week, considering it was a holiday weekend. Let’s look at some highlights:

IMG_20130330_204545-1

Angie of Oopsie Maizie shared a wonderful project that she made with her kids: birds made of salt dough with nests made from shredded paper lunch bags, molded to a bowl and then mod podged with the addition of some pieces of yarn. Isn’t that adorable?

Linen+towels

Mary of A Breath of Fresh Air shared her love of texture with some gorgeous photos.

And, though I don’t have a photo to go with this post, Susy of The Feathered Nest wrote beautifully of her friend Rachel in a post entitled, Thursdays with Rachel. If you didn’t get a chance to read it, I urge you to. You will be happy you did.

This week:

minipottery

I’m favoriting (I made up that word) my modest collection of miniature pottery. I just started collecting some of these pieces last year and I really love them. As most of you know, I am nuts for pottery and china and I have it all over the house. I’m also nuts about everything mini, so these little pieces didn’t have a chance once I saw them. Some of them were purchased by me and others were sent by dear blog friends.

Now it’s your turn!

A Favorite Thing #30

Welcome to A Favorite Thing #30! Thirty sounds nice and solid, doesn’t it? Hard to believe we’ve been getting together  every Friday and Saturday for thirty weeks. Before I forget, if you celebrate Easter, have a happy one.

Highlights from last week:

LRayPastelsBL3

Jillian’s collection of LuRay Pastel Dinnerware. Gorgeous. I have always admired her collection, which is beautiful any time of year, but especially at Easter time! Jillian blogs at Bella Rosa Antiques.

Kara of That’s the Way the Cornbread Crumbles, shared a photo of her new bowls – 5 of them. The green bowl is calling my name.

peep3

Kristina, of Mother’s Niche, shared her recipe for Rice Krispie Nests and Eggs with Peeps. Aren’t these adorable? And now I’m craving a good old Rice Krispie Treat. I love those things!

Thanks so everyone for sharing a bit of your heart with us every week!

This week I’m sharing the last in my egg cup series:

eggcups14

Left: A pretty lustreware egg cup. Love the aqua color on the rim.

Right: One of my favorites because it is so sweet. A little girl in her bunny costume, holding an egg cup.

I hope you’ve enjoyed exploring my collection for the past 2 weeks. I’m all energized to start collecting more; maybe branching out beyond my mostly figural egg cup collection.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
