For my far away friends

March 2, 2009 at 12:39 am by Claudia

I bought these two lovely pins (and one for myself) from my friend Joy’s booth at Vignettes. Perfect color, perfect look. I miss my dear friends back home. We work together at Heidi’s store, we love all things vintage and we love auctions. Did I mention the fact that we all have the same surname? Hill. Yes, we do. It makes us laugh, this same name thing…it is as if it was a requirement for the job. “Must answer to the last name of Hill.” I file it all under the category of ‘Meant to be.’

I waited to post this photo until I knew my package had arrived. It has. I miss you, friends. Go to an auction for me, okay?

A New Treasure & Artful Blogging

December 18, 2008 at 10:21 am by Claudia

I got this Currier & Ives Lithograph at an auction a while back. There is water damage on the print, but I was so taken by the vivid colors that I had to have it. When I brought it home, I noticed the glass was falling out of the frame and the whole thing had been taped together. So I looked for a mat that would cover most of the water damage and cut it to fit the frame. Then I secured the glass and backing. Now most of the damage is covered, and I think the remaining stains contribute to the charm of the print. Its hanging above the window in our den.

Isn’t amazing that the colors remain so vivid when the lithograph is so old and damaged? I love it. Pardon the glare from the glass – I took these photos rather hurriedly this morning.

Have you seen the latest issue of Artful Blogging? When I was first considering starting a blog, I bought an issue and I found it so inspiring! There are so many creative bloggers out there. Reading their stories and looking at their work gave me the push that I needed. If you haven’t encountered this quarterly magazine, I urge you to go to your local bookstore, or Michael’s (where I finally found it) and buy an issue. You will be inspired and amazed.

An Auction Treasure & A Furry Treasure

October 7, 2008 at 9:56 am by Claudia

Saturday night found my two friends from the shop and I at an auction. This particular auction is only once a month and tends to go on for hours. It starts at 5:00 pm. The best deals are always at the end of the auction – between 11:00 pm and 12:00 am. The hall was packed with people. I had my eye on this beautiful print. Flowers draw me in every time and the wooden frame with its scalloped edge was so charming I started to obsess about it. I had to have it. By the time we hit 12:00 am it still hadn’t come up for auction and the auctioneer was about to finish. There were some other paintings that people had been waiting for and we all called out our protest. “Wait – don’t stop yet!” (I had set a maximum limit of about $75.00 – there were enough people left in the room that I felt I might have a lot of competition.) When the auctioneer got to the print, I was the only bidder and I got it for $15.00! Yippee!

This is a large print and very heavy. Once we put new batteries in the stud finder, we hung it over the sofa in the den. I LOVE IT. And my husband loves it, too.

Oh, by the way, it hangs over the same sofa where this guy was cozily nestled the other night. I couldn’t resist those dark brown eyes. Had to get a picture. Love that boy!

I leave town again tomorrow for 4 days in Florida. I have now been in Florida 3 different times in the last 2 months. Its Gainesville again to check in on The Wizard of Oz. I can’t wait to see it up on the stage with full special effects. Now that I have my laptop, I will be able to blog from Gainesville.

More later.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
