I’ve always loved Maxfield Parrish’s work. His use of color, especially his vivid blues, was amazing. A hugely talented artist and illustrator, his work became a part of many households in the early part of the 20th century. His luminous work has the ability to transport me to a magical place. I’ve always dreamed of owning an original print and periodically there’s something on Ebay that I consider bidding on. Unfortunately, many prints have faded with time and, though lovely, have lost that luminous quality. The ones that haven’t faded are beyond my budget.
I found out that one of the auctions I frequent is going to auction off a Maxfield Parrish collection in April. Then I found out that its going to be opened to live bids on Ebay at the same time. There are so many collectors out there that I think the bids will be high. Probably too high for me. Darn it! So, I dug out a 2006 calendar and came across a print of my favorite Parrish, The Lantern Bearers. I think my wisest choice is to frame this copy, don’t you? In the meantime, I can dream of someday owning an original print.
Maybe I’ll go to the auction anyway. Just to dream.
