Change of Season

September 7, 2008 at 2:07 pm by Claudia

Even though I’ve barely taken in the fact that it is September, I see signs of Autumn approaching. More and more of the leaves on the weeping willow are turning yellow, here and there I see some red leaves among all the green in the woods, and the quality of the sunlight is changing. The daylight has a more golden tone – a subtle change that will become stronger as we move further into Fall. We had a big rainstorm last night due to Hanna coming up the East Coast. It was very windy and a hard rain fell. We needed the rain badly, but when I got up this morning there were many more leaves on the ground than there would be with a summer storm.

Autumn is my favorite season, but I also feel a touch of melancholy at this time of year. Summer is fading, my garden has started its decline, it is getting cooler at night – all signs that we are moving into a seasonal change that will eventually take us to Winter. Perhaps it is that knowledge – that Winter is closer than ever – that brings a bit of sadness. Whatever it is, I feel it today.

So I’m cleaning, doing laundry, washing floors, and thinking about getting back to my quilt-in-progress. That’s another sign of the change of seasons; after high heat and humidity all summer, I begin to feel a strong urge to quilt. My sewing machine is under our skylight – no air conditioner nearby – so I tend to stay away from it in the summer. But now? I am ready to get back at it.

More later.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
