Wednesday Potpourri

September 28, 2022 at 8:15 am by Claudia

• For some reason, Don and I both woke up at 4:30 am, so you can imagine how thrilled I am about that. And we’ve had to turn the heat on this morning – just for a bit. We ordered more oil yesterday. $$$$$$$$

• I’ve chatted with Meredith this morning. They’re getting tons of rain and some wind, which will increase to about 60 mph as the day goes on. The hurricane has veered to the south of Tampa and will probably hit  the Fort Meyers area. The worst bands will be south of the hurricane. So, what is a relief to us is devastating to others. Praying for everyone.

• It’s my dad’s birthday today. He would have been 99. I miss him. Happy Birthday, Dad!

• And now, because I haven’t posted any photos of the girls in 3 or 4 days and I’m tired and on the edge of being irritable:

Sophie on the puzzle.

I think she needs an Alice in Wonderland dress, don’t you?

And this little beret arrived yesterday::

These are made by a woman in Germany. She makes whimsical hats out of felted wool for Blythes, these little BJDs, and other dolls. She uses natural dyes. They are utterly charming. The beret arrived in yesterday’s mail, along with some beautiful dried flowers and little cloth carrot with a face. Someday, I’d like a Blythe-sized hat as well. Wren looks adorable, I must say!

• I cleaned up my section of our shared office/studio and it’s looking much more organized. Why do I have so much old income tax stuff in my file drawers? I mean, way older than I need to have on hand? I have to do a major clean out of those file drawers. They’re also crammed with dialect sheets and notes and old contact sheets from various shows I’ve coached and I’m reluctant to part with them until I’m officially retired.

Okay.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Popcorn Alert

August 12, 2022 at 9:11 am by Claudia

What?? A high of only 82 degrees today? It’s almost cold out there! As of today, at least for this household, the heat wave has broken. Now we need rain and lots of it. No sign of that until next week.

It’s Friday and I haven’t posted a Blythe-related pic for a few days. I really do try to limit those posts, even though the girls bring me joy and a semblance of peace and I love to pose them.

Anyway, Lily is a little hard to dress because her arms and legs and feet are a little thicker than Blythe’s. She can wear only a couple of pair of shoes in my inventory. We (Lily and I) dug through all of the clothes the other day and found a couple of items that worked well on her.

She is so darned cute! (Don really is taken by her.)

That’s a Blythe dress. The pants and hat were made for her sister, Wren. The shoes came with one of my dolls.

Almost every morning, Don passes the girls on his way out of the den with a “Good morning, girls!” The other day, he automatically added, “Look alive!” There was a beat before we realized exactly what he said and we burst out laughing.

Let’s see: Trump took classified documents to Mar-a-lago (illegal) and, after a subpoena, refused to return them. Even more illegal. The FBI executed a search warrant (it wasn’t a raid) and took boxes of documents with them. Now we learn that some of said documents might concern nuclear weapons. Trump does nothing if it doesn’t bring him money and/or power – preferably both. He is a grifter of the highest order. He’s also a lifelong criminal. Jared got 2 billion dollars from the Saudi royal family. Trump just hosted a Saudi-backed golf tournament. There’s also his buddy Putin, and his friend Kim Jong-Un. The possibilities are endless, but if true – and we don’t know enough yet – that’s called espionage. The Rosenbergs were executed for doing the same.

Most of the time, I just never want to hear one more word about him again – other than he’s in prison for the rest of his life. But sometimes, the whole thing is better than any movie or television series. Get out your popcorn, we have a very interesting time ahead of us.

Okay. I have to try to wake up and get some more work done.

Happy Friday.

Dreams and Drought

July 30, 2022 at 8:44 am by Claudia

Last night, I had one of those dreams where I’m walking down endless corridors looking for someone. Don and I were both working on shows that were on tour, and it was a big holiday, Thanksgiving or Christmas. We happened to be in the same city so I visited his tour’s holiday celebration where there was lots of turkey and trimmings and food and desserts. I remember talking to many people along the way and then Don appeared and acknowledged my presence. Then he disappeared and I couldn’t find him and I was wondering why he didn’t stay with me. Then he morphed into my brother.

I normally don’t remember dreams, but this was right before I woke up. It was unsettling on many levels, but especially with the appearance of my brother, who will be gone 31 years on September 4th.

I didn’t have a chance to speak to him. It wasn’t one of the rare dreams I’ve had in which I’m dancing with him and incredibly happy that he’s there. He just appeared and disappeared.

Anyway, it stuck with me and the morning, so far, has been a bit off.

It’s unbelievably hot and humid out there and I’m worried about drought. Once again, we were supposed to have rain yesterday and overnight and as I clocked the radar during the day, it kept changing. Sure enough, the rain occurred to the south and north of us.

But not here in our own little microclimate.

And I can see no rain on the horizon for the next week. I water as much as I can during the day, but I noticed that some plants in the big garden bed have died back because of the heat. I also see that next Friday and Saturday are supposed to hit 99 degrees. This is insane.

Imogen taking the little ones for a walk.

This gives you a good sense of the difference in sizes for Blythe and the two different versions of this BJD doll by eatzongzi.

I’m back to using my big girl camera when I can. It’s so easy to rely on the iPhone, which is quite good and handy, but the fact remains that my stand-alone camera is much better.

Both photos on this post were taken with the big girl camera.

I think Don is off to the Farmers Market today, but I’m not sure yet.

Meredith is still feeling miserable. She said she can’t imagine how bad it would be if she was unvaccinated.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
