Gardening, Reading, and Nina

Saturday morning – a gray and gloomy looking morning, for sure. I think it rained a bit overnight. Frankly, I’m tired of all the rain we’ve been having and I’d give anything for a few days of sunshine.

Both Don and I worked outside yesterday – he cleaned up and enlarged the trails up in the woods. I dug more invasive weeds out – I swear I will be doing this all summer long – and cleaned out one of the smaller garden beds. We were tuckered out after all that work! But slowly, weather permitting, I’m making some progress on early spring cleanup.

I’m three quarters of the way through with The Black Widow  by Daniel Silva. I have two more Silvas on my TBR pile and I will then be caught up with all of his books. He has another one coming out this fall. I also have three holds in my library system: John Connolly’s newest, which I think comes out in May, the next James Lee Burke, which comes out in a couple of months, and Amor Towles’ newest book of short stories, which just came out. I’m learning I have to get in the queues as soon as I can – even if the book isn’t coming out for a few months.

It’s every man for himself in the library hold system.

A little picture of Nina, which reminds me that sometimes her glorious locks cover up her face – like now – and she looks much better this way. Note to myself: fix her hair today.

Nina was customized by a dear artist who lives in Israel. Apparently, my timing was fortuitous – Nina ended up being her last customized Blythe. She isn’t customizing anymore. I love her dolls (I have two) and would certainly consider buying more. She has such a distinctive style; her dolls are like no others. I hope this is a temporary decision on her part, but she isn’t visiting IG, and I’ve had no response to some of my messages checking in on her. There are many Blythe lovers who hope for her return.

I mean, look at that face! The subtle veins, beautiful eyebrows, the slightly open mouth with teeth – she’s stunning.

I’ve had people ask if I can post videos of the girls on the shelves. I have made videos for Instagram but transferring/posting them here is next-to-impossible. If you’re interested in them (I usually set them to music) they’re on my IG Blythe account, which is ‘sophieandherpals.’

Grumble, Grumble

First of all, I apologize for not responding to your comments on dreams. I promise I will, but we’ve been busy working outside, as well as mowing, and Don woke me up in the middle of the night making strange noises and I never got back to sleep. On top of all of that, there’s something else wrong with Don’s car and we don’t have the money to fix any of it at the moment.

Oh, I could go on with this list, because there’s much more, but this is enough ‘poor me’ for today.

So. I’m sleep deprived and slightly pissed off at Don, even though he didn’t know he was making the noises. He felt so bad about the whole thing that he made both rounds of coffee today.

More crabapple blossoms! I never get tired of them. How can I? – they’ll be gone before you know it. Every year, I notice another crabapple tree on the property.

We have some rain due this afternoon and tomorrow. Then – fingers crossed – some dry days. We need them. I can’t even walk in the secret garden because it’s so waterlogged.

She looks like she’s contemplating some mischief. And I suspect she doesn’t suffer fools gladly.

We watched the limited series, Ripley, on Netflix. It’s based on Patricia Highsmith’s The Talented Mr. Ripley. It stars Andrew Scott (we are great fans of this man’s work) and it is exquisitely shot in black and white. Stunning to watch, but even more stunning is Scott as Tom Ripley. I really, really loved it.

Imogen & What are you Reading?

Tons of rain yesterday and then the wind came. It’s still a little windy out there and, though we were supposed to have no rain today, we might have some this morning. Don just went out to work on the trails, where he has been raking and cleaning things up. I’ll wait to see if it rains around 10 am. If it does, I’ll have to wait until tomorrow to get some work done.

Dear little Imogen. I hadn’t pulled her off the shelf in a while, so I remedied that the other day. She was one of my first Blythes. The third, I believe. She arrived at the house just before I took off for 6 weeks in Brooklyn when I was working on the movie.

In fact, here she is with Sophie the day I moved into the apartment in Brooklyn. (Maeve, though the second Blythe, hadn’t arrived yet – she had a very long trip from Russia.)

She was customized by Torry Dolls who lives in Belarus. Love the dimple in her chin.

The puzzle is driving me mad, but I think I managed to correctly insert about 10 pieces yesterday. Nothing else is new, my friends.

Since that is the case, this post will be relatively brief. But, I do have a question: What are you reading?
