Sunday Update

February 27, 2022 at 9:08 am by Claudia

Thanks for your well wishes for Don. He is in pain, but he’s sure he didn’t break anything. If this goes on much longer, he’ll have it checked out. We’ve been icing, etc. I’m taking care of him. But keep him in your prayers, okay?

I went over to our neighbors’ property yesterday to try to shovel their driveway. Unfortunately, the snow is like a block of ice, so I had to chop at it with the shovel and then clear some of it in layers as best I could. They have a long curved driveway. Sadly, I didn’t get too far. It was too hard on my back and my neck.  I managed to clear enough so they could at least pull in off the road.

Then I texted Laura and explained what was going on – Don’s injury, my back – and she immediately responded with sympathy and a “Don’t worry! We’ll take care of it!” We have good neighbors.

I finished this yesterday. It was extremely difficult and a real challenge. I loved it. This isn’t the best photo, but it’s beautifully designed.

And, amazingly, a Blythe outfit that went missing in the post arrived yesterday. It came from Russia and arrived in the US in November, where it sat on a barge for a long time and we gave up hope. Then it showed up in Chicago, where it also sat for almost 2 months. But it dropped off the radar again, so Olga refunded my money. This past week, she wrote me saying it looked like it had resurfaced again. Go figure! This time, the delay had nothing to do with Russia but with the USPS. It took 103 days to get here.

Maeve is today’s model:

This is as close to a cat as Maeve will get since Mom is allergic. Olga – pippydolls on IG – makes beautiful clothes. And she has been such a great communicator during all of this. We became friends.

Today, we’re laying low here at the cottage. With all the melting and then temps plunging down to single digits at night, it’s slippery out there. But it’s going to reach 45 today, so once that happens, I’ll venture out to put out the trash, etc. I won’t let Don do it.

The egg cups arrived safe and sound. Country Living did a great job of packing and protecting them. They’re back home in the cubby and on the shelves.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

Let’s Hope the Forecast is Wrong

February 23, 2022 at 9:30 am by Claudia

5 – 8 inches? More? It’s looking like Thursday night and Friday are going to test us. They’re no longer saying the word ‘ice’ but the amount of snow predicted is growing – rather alarmingly.

And the box of egg cups that Country Living has sent back via UPS is supposed to arrive on Friday.

Oh boy.

By the way, I heard more bird song later in the day yesterday and I saw a Carolina Wren near the bird bath and then he flew back up into the trailer – again. I’m trying to remember what happened last year. I seem to remember that the male will show the female at least three different possibilities and then she’ll choose the one she likes best. So…even though I’m seeing them check it out, it doesn’t mean they’ll nest there. And, of course, it’s a long time between the end of February and April. I can’t get my hopes up. Sob.

No sign of them today.

The new puzzle is tricky, but I like a challenge.

Don has to go to the eye doctor today for his shot. He’s insisting on driving himself. I keep offering to drive him, but for some reason, he wants to do it himself today. Okay!

Yesterday’s photo. Looks like Zoe’s hair got caught on her eyelashes! Heavens, she has a beautiful face.

Thank you for all your wonderful comments about Don’s YouTube channel. I read each and every one of them to him and he was so pleased! He thanks you.

He’s pretty darned talented.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

Sophie Day

February 20, 2022 at 9:59 am by Claudia

It was insane out there yesterday. Cold. Then crazy snow squalls. (I kept getting warning alerts on my phone that scared the crap out of me.) Then crazy wind throughout the rest of the day and night.

It’s cold this morning, but no wind – just a breeze. And sunny.

I’m over winter.

So I declared the day to be “Sophie Day.” It started with me thinking that she would look good in a dress I had. So I pulled her off the shelf and dressed her in this creation from mamzelle.lylou on IG.

I captioned it by saying she was off to find a quiet place to read – and to get some privacy away from her sisters.

Then, because she was so darned cute, I added this hat that I received long ago:

Stop. She’s so adorable!

Then, the mail came and there was a tiny package that I’d been waiting for. Sophie got to be the first to model these:

Reading in her quiet place.

And because I absolutely love her in these glasses, I took yet another picture:

I do believe I’ve found her look! The glasses seem to define her in a wonderful way. She is the oldest girl; bookish and thoughtful. I didn’t remove the glasses; she’s still wearing them. And I love it.

I also did some work on the puzzle and finished Slow Horses. Excellent! I’ve just started the next book in the series, Dead Lions.

And we watched Pairs Figure Skating, which was extraordinary. Stunningly talented skaters. Such beauty.

Today? I’m not sure. My back is feeling better, but I’m being very careful. I need to put a coat of sealer on the dollhouse but I don’t want to contort my body so that will have to wait. Reading, certainly, and I suspect one of the girls will be forced to wear a new outfit.

And the puzzle, of course.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
