Frigid Saturday

January 15, 2022 at 9:43 am by Claudia

Puzzle finished.

Except for that missing piece. It’s not on the floor. But it’s entirely possible that when I opened the plastic bag containing the pieces to dump them in the box, I threw it out and didn’t see the piece still in the bag. I’m going with that.

This one was difficult – Jeanie mentioned that it had been tricky for her as well.

I’m glad it’s done.

Next up:

I really love this photo. I messaged Mary Engelbreit saying it reminded me so much of her style. She wrote back right away and said she has a book with this illustration on the cover and it’s one of her favorites.

Wouldn’t you like to live there?

It is frigid out there, the faucet is on a continuous drip, which – believe me – can drive one mad. It’s sunny, but that’s about it. Tonight it goes down below zero. The weather forecast keeps changing for Monday – snow, then it changes to snow, rain, and sleet, and this morning it said rain. In the meantime, we both have cabin fever, even though there’s no place I particularly want to go.

I’m trying to stay positive because I’m just on the edge of a bad mood. I woke up in the middle of the night last night coughing (allergies and sinus) and that went on for a while, so my sleep wasn’t the best. And I’m all stuffed up, which isn’t helping.

Okay. Enough of that. I’ll be fine.

Hopefully, this will make you smile.

The girls. The ones in the back row seem a little miffed. Either that, or there’s some sort of conversation going on that I can’t hear.

And yes, Mei needs a little animal. I’ll get on it.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

The Three Sisters

January 14, 2022 at 8:55 am by Claudia

We have a wind advisory tonight with wind chills hitting well below zero. Oh, goody. High winds (which make me tense) and very cold temps. This weekend will be a frigid one and then snow on Monday, but the amount forecast has decreased to 1 – 3 inches.

That’s your Hudson Valley Weather Report for today.

There’s lots for me to tackle around here, none of which I seem to be doing. Winter inertia has set in.

But in the meantime, let’s look at beautiful Mei, because that’s all I’ve got for you today.

She’s so pretty.

The Three Sisters.

As I said on IG: Chekhov Revisited.

Which one is Olga? (I played Olga in grad school.) And Masha? And Irina?

Irina is the youngest sister so that would be Olivia, on the left.

Masha is the passionate middle sister, so that might be Mei, on the right.

And that leaves Pippa to play Olga.

I love all my girls, but it’s clear I have a soft spot for VegaDolls. There’s something about those sweet little faces that gets to me.

Okay. Short but sweet, I hope.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

Welcoming Mei

January 13, 2022 at 10:30 am by Claudia

Say hello to Mei.

She didn’t arrive until 10 pm yesterday, so the light was limited. I took her up to our room for the night – I did this with Pip, as well. She didn’t arrive until 9:30 pm.

If you notice a resemblance, you’re right. She was customized by Natalia, the same woman (of VegaDolls) who customized Olivia and Pippa.

But there’s a little story here. Natalia bought her over a year ago. She had already been customized by someone several years ago, but the skin was yellowing and she needed to be restored. Natalia wanted to save her. When she felt ready, she worked her magic by re-carving the face, restoring the skin, adding makeup and coloring, and adding beautiful new eye chips and now we have this new Mei. She’s called Mei because that name was written on the inside of her head and I’m going to honor that. (Plus, we called my sister Meredith a variety of loving nicknames when she was a little girl, one of which was ‘May.’) Mei, in honor of my beloved sister.

So. Natalia rescued her and you know I also am a rescuer. When she rescues a doll she has an auction for it, rather than selling at a specific price. You can message her with a bid and when the auction is over, whoever has the highest bid wins. I debated on this one. Did I need another doll? Of course not. Did I want this girl? Yes. I felt drawn to her. So I took a deep breath and submitted a bid and figured I would lose. One afternoon, as I was working on the puzzle, I got a message from Natalia saying I had won. I was completely surprised.

She was shipped from Spain on Monday and she arrived here two days later. Amazing.

I will dress her in something else later this morning and take some photos.

Shoelaces gone wild.

She is dear, isn’t she? There is a wonderful winsome quality in all of Natalia’s dolls. I’m completely charmed by the sweetness in her face.

Bless Don. I hadn’t yet told  him about the impending arrival of another doll and I suddenly had to when DHL informed me they were delivering the package a day early. He was excited and supportive and delighted and…well, he was Don, the best man I know.

It’s warmer here today. We’ll get a break for a couple of days then back to the cold and maybe 3-5 inches of snow on Monday.

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
