More Decorating

December 14, 2009 at 1:05 am by Claudia

The tree is decorated…the saga has ended, thank goodness. I have to say it is the prettiest one yet. Clear lights have made a huge difference in the look of the tree. Now I am in the midst of the ‘how do you get a good photograph of the tree?’ dilemma. No matter how I try, the photo doesn’t do it justice. So if you can hang on a day, I will have some photos to share with you. I’m going to mess around with the camera and see what I can come up with.

You know my ‘wrought iron thingy’ that is on the table in the kitchen? The pumpkins are gone and this is what I’ve done with it for the Christmas season.

Simple, but pretty, I think. Have a wonderful day.

Where are the Decorations?

December 13, 2009 at 9:15 am by Claudia

Where are the decorations, you ask? Still in the boxes. A brief update on the tree trimming is in order. Friday was our day to decorate. We always like to start decorating after dark. So we pulled out the box with the lights and started stringing them. Halfway through this process, we realized the rest of the lights were no longer working. I ran out to our local supermarket. Nothing. It was now late and the temps were frigid, so we decided to wait until Saturday.

On Saturday, I sent Don out for lights since I was working. We decided that this might be a good time to go with clear lights and start a new look. He called me at work to say he had bought lights at the True Value for $14.00 a box – we quickly realized he had purchased LED lights and that would be too expensive. I made him take them back. Then he went to drug store and purchased several boxes of clear lights. Great!

I came home from work and we started stringing the lights. The cord was white. Okay, we thought, “We can make this work!” but after trying every possible way to hide the cords, we gave up. They all came off the tree and this morning I am venturing out to buy some more lights.

Ah, the joys of Christmas. Cross your fingers: hopefully, we will have a decorated tree by this evening.

Decorating

December 10, 2009 at 5:51 pm by Claudia

O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree… today we went tree shopping and brought home our lovely Noble Fir. We’re letting the branches settle overnight and tomorrow we will decorate. In the meantime, I’ve been doing a little decorating in other parts of the house.

The simplest decoration: some pine cones next to the parakeet lamp.

The garland on the stairway.

Santa on the spinet desk.

Oh, and this handsome guy. My favorite decoration. I wanted to share this photo of my husband that I took for his website. As you know he is a singer/songwriter as well as an actor. I took a bunch of shots of him the other day. We used the porch as our setting. Just in the nick of time – the next day, this particular area of the porch was covered in snow!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
