These Sheep are Ready to Party

August 19, 2010 at 8:36 am by Claudia

Back when I was in California, my sister Meredith saw a photo of some vintage putz sheep I had seen in a shop and fell in love. One day, I drove back to the shop and bought 4 of them. She gave me one (thank you!) and I sent the other 3 to her. Then I fashioned a hat for my little guy and Mer said she would also like some hats. This morning I made some for her little flock.

We picked out the scrapbook paper yesterday and I brought along the flowers.

Gosh darn it, this little one is a cutie! Making these little hats is very fiddly work and getting them to stay on their heads is a whole other challenge. I’m afraid to move them now. But they can’t stay out here in the kitchen. Their home will be in the glass case with Dinah.

I removed part of yesterday’s post for two reasons. My beloved parents sometimes read this blog and I don’t want to upset them. And…I feel I have been too negative lately. My worries are real, don’t get me wrong, but my blog is predominantly cheerful and I want to keep it that way. Thank you so much for your wonderful, supportive comments. As always, they warm my heart.

Let’s close with a little critter who hangs around my sister’s property.

He was moving fast and hard to capture on film. It was my first encounter with an armadillo – what strange, almost prehistoric creatures they are! This morning he was in the bushes. This little guy gets around.

Well, I have to go. It is almost time for Max to bark at the Pool Monster.

Fabric Easter Eggs & Squares 20 & 21

March 20, 2010 at 5:17 pm by Claudia

Time for my fabric eggs to show their faces…I gathered them up today and placed them in the wrought iron thingy. Then I looped a little organdy ribbon through it. For those of you new to the blog, I was whipping these up last year at this time when I spent 6 months in San Diego. My friend Ingrid let me borrow her Featherweight and I was sewing up a storm. It is fun to see them again with their cheery colors.

I’m not sure what to put in the bottom basket of the wrought iron thingy…still pondering that one. Any ideas?

Today might be the last of our days of glorious weather for a bit. It is supposed to be cloudy and cooler tomorrow with rain moving in on Monday and Tuesday. I can’t complain: I’ve been able to accomplish some clean-up in the yard, take the dogs on some much-needed walks, sit on my glider on the porch and feel the sun on my face. It has been so beautiful that I’ve had to force myself to read scripts and prep.

Don is thoroughly exhausted and is taking it easy today. Lee is stable. He did open his eyes for several minutes yesterday.

Squares 20 and 21:

A wheelbarrow filled with flowers for planting.

A robin’s egg surrounded by…well, I’m not sure. It is either a ribbon or a vine. I just like the look of it! Some of you have asked what I am going to do with this when it is all finished. I’m leaning toward framing it. I really love how it is turning out; it’s full of my favorite things.

I’m caught up on the squares through Sunday – see you Monday!

Thank You, Featherweight

June 25, 2009 at 1:17 am by Claudia

Thank you, sweet Featherweight! For hours of sewing away from home, for fabric eggs and fabric hearts, for stitching square onto square, strip onto strip, row onto row, borders onto rows and making two quilts. You are everything they say you are – a workhorse with a fantastic straight stitch. You do everything with grace. Thanks for keeping me company at the apartment. I will soon return you to my friend, Ingrid, who trusted me enough to lend you to me. You were her Grandmother’s sewing machine – a treasure. I will miss you…and I will get one like you for myself someday…along with my dream Janome 6600P Memory Craft Sewing Machine. Thank you, Featherweight. Thank you, Ingrid.

The top is finished!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
