Our paper towel holder

June 30, 2008 at 6:18 pm by Claudia

Thought I’d share a picture or two of our unique paper towel holder. We got this at a local auction right after we moved here. We were attracted to the graphics, it was only $20, and we figured we would come up with something to do with it. Its previous existence was a store display for chains. After staring at it, I thought we could cut some dowels and insert them in the slots on the sides and ta da! We had a paper towel holder.

Its a bit funky, but we love old signs and graphics – and we always have plenty of paper towels on hand!

Have a great day!

A Different View

May 21, 2008 at 2:23 pm by Claudia

When we bought this cottage, we were happy that there were mini blinds on all the windows, and wooden blinds on the windows in the den. The only windows that had nothing were the ones in the kitchen. After a while we decided the kitchen needed something and we settled on red roman blinds. We use them most often in the winter because they are insulated. It can get very windy here.

Up until now, I’ve left the rest of the windows in their original mini-blind state. I must admit that deciding on a window treatments is overwhelming for me, especially when I want to spend very little money. My niece had these tie-up shades in her home and we always admired their simplicity and cottage-like feeling. She found them at Target.

So the other day I went to Target, and bought three shades for the living room. What a difference! I know its not earth-shaking, but we really love these. They add so much to the living room and they most certainly add to the cottage charm. I shy away from anything that I determine to be “too cutesy” – my husband assured me that these are not cutesy but just right. Sigh of relief!

Its funny how a little change can make such a big difference.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
