Part 8: Egg Cups

March 25, 2023 at 9:10 am by Claudia

Yesterday’s post should have been Part 7 of the egg cup tour, but I just realized that I had two Part 6 posts in a row! Oy. So I went back and edited the title of the post. As for today, we’re on Part 8 and it’s a dark, rainy, sleety day, so taking photos is difficult.

Hence, we move to the home of the dolls to get a better photo:

The one on the left was a gift from my longtime online pal, Linda. It’s so adorable. Not showing in the photo is the tail, which is removable and functions as a salter for the egg. And let’s face it, the color of that adorable egg cup is perfect for me. That little sticker says “Our Own Import.” I love it when the original stickers are still intact.

In the center, a little egg cup with a pale blue/lavender lustreware cup. Made in Japan. It usually holds a marble egg that I’ve had for years.

On the right, a beautiful goose egg cup from France. I really love this one; it’s so graceful and beautiful. Interestingly, I found it in a local antique shop – and by local, I mean in the Hudson Valley somewhere. It’s rare for me to find an egg cup I’m interested in buying around here.

Thank you to those of you who are taking the time to comment on these posts. I wasn’t going to do an egg cup tour, but a lot of you mentioned that you’d love to see them again. So, I’m taking the time every morning to choose the cups and photograph them so that you can see them. I know that newer readers might not have seen them before.

Anyway, this is a very busy time for me and I appreciate it when you take the time to leave a comment. Otherwise, I find myself wondering if I’m losing readers or just plain boring you and comments are definitely down since I started this tour. Should I not do these anymore?

To those of you who do take the time to comment, thank you. Normally, this isn’t an issue and I have said many times that you don’t have to worry about commenting, but please remember that this takes time. Once I commit to showing you the egg cups, and there are a lot of them, we are talking about several posts. In fact, I’ll have to take more photos than usual this weekend because I will most likely be working in NYC every day next week, which means I will have to write posts ahead of time.

All this is to say that bloggers or writers on Instagram or Facebook appreciate feedback, especially if they’re doing a series or compiling information for you. It’s free of charge, but it takes a lot of time on our end.

I did a lot of prep work for the play yesterday and will do more today. Then I’ll spend my time on Sunday reviewing everything so I’m ready for work on Monday.

We haven’t heard anything so we’re sure Don did not get the job. He’s very disappointed and down.

Thanks for your positive thoughts, my friends. We never take that for granted.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

Part 7: Egg Cups

March 24, 2023 at 8:36 am by Claudia

The peepers are back! A sure sign of spring. When I was climbing the stairs last night, I heard them through the window. Don joined me. Hearing them again was joyful. And our bullfrog is back – he joins in, as well.

Today’s egg cups:

•  A lovely little Scottie dog egg cup that I found many years ago. I’m pretty sure it was on eBay. I love this cup and I rarely see it elsewhere.

•  A little girl made of wood with a wool cap (egg warmer.) The name “Maria” is on the base. Made by Sevi, an Italian company. Probably from the 50s. She was a gift from Tina Marie, who is a reader of this blog.

•  A wooden sailor egg cup that Don and Scoutie gave me for my birthday one year. These were sold at Woolworth’s and made in Japan. It’s missing its white felt sailor cap, which served as an egg warmer.

It’s a dark morning, so this isn’t the best photo!

I think I need more of these little wooden children.

What else? I’m working every day on my dialect research. Monday is the first rehearsal so I’ll be headed into the city.

Sorry for the brevity, but I have a lot of things to do!

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

Egg Cups, Part 6

March 23, 2023 at 8:34 am by Claudia

A rainy day today, but we have mild temperatures.

Today’s egg cups:

I love these little guys (and dog.)

They were made in Japan. Left to right: a dog in a suit and hat,  a little boy in a cowboy hat, a little boy with very rosy cheeks and a kerchief around his neck, and another little boy in a sort of clown suit with his dog. Two of them are standing, two of them are sitting.

I think I found the little cowboy first and then I slowly searched for the rest of the members of this mini collection within a collection.

Don has an appointment with the doctor who has been treating his ‘trigger’ thumb. It’s getting more and more painful for him every day and he thinks it’s time to schedule surgery. It impacts everything, especially playing the guitar, and he’s in pain a great deal of the time. Meanwhile, he had a callback for a low budget movie and it went well, but if he doesn’t hear anything by the end of the day, we will accept the fact that he didn’t get it. His audition was impeccably done, so the rest of it is what the director sees or envisions and we have no control over that.

But really, someone give this man a job, for heaven’s sake!

My husband is having a hard time.

I have loads more research to do today. So, I only have time for a short post.

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
