Monday Morning in Ice Land

Do you think Santa has had it?

Time to retire these two and move them upstairs to their off-season home.

We are so tired of ice everywhere. A warm-up is on the docket for today, but at the same time, we’re having the dreaded ‘mixed precipitation’ which has resulted in a winter weather advisory.

I AM OVER IT.

In the meantime, we have to go get a box and bubble wrap, etc. this morning because I have to let Country Living know the dimensions and weight so they can send me a UPS label. I need to get the box to UPS tomorrow. I briefly considered whether this was worth it. Sigh. I did wash all the cups yesterday, so they’re ready to pack.

At least I don’t have to be at a rehearsal or travel.

Here’s a photo of the miniature Tintin book that was in the tote bag that came with Madeleine. Isn’t it adorable? It’s 1:6 scale, so it would be too big for the dollhouse, but it’s perfect for my girls. (The title is in Spanish.)

I decided that Madeleine must be tired of her traveling clothes, so I put her in another dress.

It was her turn to walk Bertie. The girls take turns – it’s one of their chores.

There was a discussion in the comments the other day about the size/height of Blythe dolls. They are 11.8 inches tall. The head is about 3½ inches tall. There are also slight differences in the size of the bodies that are used. There is the neo Blythe body, which is the original, or close to the original size, there is the Licca body, and there is the Obitsu body. I have all three. I’ve noticed that the Licca body, which is the body that Olivia has, is a little shorter and the arms and legs are thinner, as well. Therefore, she always looks like the youngest sister because she’s a little smaller. I’m not sure about the Obitsu 11 body, which is the one that Pippa and Mei have – it might be a bit shorter. I’ll have to check. The Obitsu is the most flexible, the most posable. But it’s also the most fragile. The rest of the girls; Sophie, Maeve, Zoe, Imogen, and Madeleine have the standard Blythe body, sometimes called neo Blythe or Azone.

I’m fine with all of them. The only thing I want to change is the neck support on Sophie and Maeve. As it is now, the head can turn from side to side but it can’t be raised or lowered or tilted – all of which make for more interesting poses. I have to resort to shooting from below so it doesn’t look like they’re constantly looking down.

Probably way more information than you wanted or needed this morning!

Egg Cups & Imogen

I’ve been taking photos of my figural egg cups because Country Living magazine contacted me yesterday wanting to know if I would be willing to ship some of my egg cups to them for a photo shoot. They have a monthly feature on collecting. This will be for the May issue. I sent the photos in and the editor sounded excited about what I have, chose some favorites, and I’m going to wrap them in bubble wrap, box them up, and send them to CL via UPS. I should have them back by the end of February.

They found me through Instagram. I’m thrilled to have them featured, but it’s a little bit like sending your kids off to camp. Will they be safe? Some of them would be very hard to replace. They were looking for chicks and ducks and Easter season egg cups, which is just as well, because I told the editor the Snow White set was off the table – it’s too rare and too many years were spent hunting for the entire set.

I actually got out of the house yesterday as we had to drive over to Rick and Doug’s to water their plants. They’re off on a trip. To be frank, there’s no way we would be traveling during this time! I don’t want to be on a plane for several hours with others when Omicron is so contagious. Also, because we travel so rarely, I don’t want to spend money for a trip when I have to wear a mask all the time. But I do understand the urge to escape the winter for a bit, so more power to them.

I set off their alarm again, which is exactly the same  as ours, so really, what is my problem???

Anyway, we went to the grocery store first – and by we, I mean Don, Imogen, and me. I had just dressed her in a coat and Don said, “Let’s take her with us!” So, we did.

I sat in the car while Don ran in to grab a few things. Imogen and I played a bit.

The first car journey for Imogen – at least, on this side of the Atlantic. How do you like that coat? I would like a human-sized version. Same for the boots and the leggings.

The entire outfit, thank you very much.

Lordy, she’s cute! It was quite fun to have her in the car with me.

It’s very rainy here today. It will continue all day and then take us into snow and ice tomorrow. I don’t think we’re going to get a lot of it, but any sleet/ice is dangerous. It won’t be helped by plunging temperatures – we won’t be able to rely on the sun to melt everything.

Day Four Hundred Seven

I grabbed the camera and snapped a quick photo of the cubby. I loved the way the light was creating shadows behind the egg cups. Maybe that’s happened before, but I’ve never noticed it.

Yesterday ended up being very windy – will it never stop? – so I worked outside for only a short while. Trying to get anything done was exhausting, and my allergies were on overdrive. Very frustrating. Even Don, who loves wind, said that after three days of it, he was done. Today is much calmer, thank goodness, so I’m going to try again. I need to rake the leaves out of the chicken wire fence garden and mow the grass in that same area. It’s going to rain tomorrow.

Christopher and Jenny are back at it this morning. Just like yesterday, I heard one of them sing, looked out the window and there he/she was, standing in front of the trailer. By the way, Christopher is named after the famous architect, Sir Christopher Wren, who designed St. Paul’s Cathedral, among other famous buildings in London. It’s one of my favorite churches, I might add. Jenny is a traditional nickname for wrens, especially in Great Britain and Europe, hence “Jenny Wren.”

Today is the seventh anniversary of my mom’s passing. It seems to be hitting me particularly hard this year. I can’t believe it’s been 7 years and I really miss my mom. Don does, too. My mom had a lovely little habit of calling our respective spouses when she knew one of us was away. She loved having a long conversation, just the two of them. I would be away somewhere coaching and Don would say, “I had a great conversation with your Mom today.”

Anyway. I didn’t respond to comments yesterday because I was feeling under the weather after my battle with the wind. Sorry about that. And now I have to help Don with an audition self-tape that has to be in today. We did another one just two days ago. Self-taping is definitely going to be the norm going forward. It was already happening before the pandemic, but it’s really taken off. For us, it’s invaluable. No bus trip to the city. No expensive bus ticket. Traveling to an audition ends of taking up a whole day. Now? We just set up, I read the other lines in the scene, and when Don is happy with it, he sends it in. Easy peasy. It works for television and film rather nicely.

After that, I’m headed outside.
