Garden, Egg Cups, Squares 33 & 34

April 3, 2010 at 10:01 am by Claudia

In the garden:

These daffodils were planted by some previous owner of the cottage. They are right on the edge of our woods and the splash of color is always a delightful surprise.

A sweet grape hyacinth that didn’t bloom the first two years we lived here. I’m so glad it has decided to perform for us!

More egg cups:

Left to right: an egg cup made by Carlton Ware in England – the series is called Walking Ware – each cup has feet with different colored socks and shoes; a rooster made for Fanny Farmer – in fact, you can see Fanny Farmer inscribed along the bottom; a pig with a glass egg inside the cup; a dog egg cup; a little cowboy egg cup; a cute little girl with bunny ears, and a scottie egg cup.

Yes, there are more. They are more traditional and are not figural – maybe I’ll post a photo tomorrow.

Square #33 and #34:

#33 – my MacBook (I love it so) and ‘Blog’ because, you guessed it, I love blogging.
#34- music notes – much of my life has revolved around music – in choirs, as a professional singer (many years ago), on stage, at the piano. My husband is a singer/songwriter, as well.

I have 6 more squares to go!

A Present, Egg Cups, Square #32

April 1, 2010 at 1:18 pm by Claudia

I have been the happy recipient of two packages this week. One – from Jodie – I wrote about yesterday. The other arrived on my doorstep during the torrential rains on Tuesday. My wonderful friend Brenda of Cozy Little House sent me a present. By the way, it came via Susan’s shop at The T-Cozy – another favorite blogging friend.

Oh. my. gosh. McCoy – in pink! Pink McCoy is harder to find out there and I don’t have this piece. Needless to say, I am thrilled. Thank you, dear Brenda, for this lovely, thoughtful gift. If you are not familiar with Brenda’s blog, you can click the link above or on my sidebar. You will be happy you dropped by. Brenda writes beautifully and has the most wonderful house and garden, as well as some beautiful and beloved pets. I am so grateful that we have become good friends.

How about some more egg cups? It is Easter time, after all.

These sweeties are mostly decorated with chicks and ducks. The one on the left, however, has two dogs holding up the cup. I forgot to post the egg cup sitting on the pink McCoy along with the other bunny cups. I’ve always loved this one because the bunny reminds me of Scout. The egg cup in the foreground with the two yellow chicks was made for Fanny Farmer and was given to me when I was a very little girl by my godparents, Edith and Nick. Both Edith and Nick passed away recently. I held on to it all those years and it eventually sparked my desire to collect more.

I have a few more to share with you in the next few days.

Okay, square #32 – warning: I am not real happy with this one but it is what it is.

“Ode to my favorite baseball team, the Boston Red Sox.” I tried to copy the logo freehand – but the left sock looks like it is has stretched out. Reminds me of the sock I wore over my walking cast when I had a broken ankle! Oh well.

Bunnies & Square #29

March 29, 2010 at 9:28 am by Claudia

Today’s theme? Bunny rabbits. I love little bunny rabbits – we have several of them on the property here at Mockingbird Hill Cottage. I can’t resist them. You met my newest bunny, Mr. Bunn, yesterday. How about some bunny egg cups?

These sweet egg cups are from my collection. I love each and every one of them. I have more to share with you later this week. The book you see – A Girl of the Limberlost by Gene Stratton Porter – is a book I loved in my childhood. My grandmother gave me a copy when I was a girl. Several years ago I bought a copy just like the one she gave me which had unfortunately gone missing. Recently, I found this beautiful vintage edition and couldn’t resist. The graphics on the cover are gorgeous.

Back to bunnies. I was in Target recently and found some bunny ears for $1.00. Into the basket they went. Don and I always call Scout’s pink and white ears ‘bunny ears.’ You can see where this is going – I had to put them on Scout.

She doesn’t look too pleased, does she?

Uh oh…there’s that look. Let’s try them on Riley instead.

And I thought it was such a great idea.

Square #29:

D for Don, the love of my life, who’s heart is broken at the loss of his father.

Have a wonderful Monday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
