Surprises in the Mail

May 8, 2010 at 1:42 pm by Claudia

Thank you for all your loving, supportive comments yesterday. I know that all of you have had your share of losses and understand how overwhelming grief can be. Writing about it was enormously healing for me. As I wrote, I cried. The sadness stayed with me throughout the day. But I feel better now. Today is a new day, the sun is shining and I have a lot of work to do!

On to happier things!

My friend Terri of Artful Affirmations took pity on my mail-less state and sent me two things this week. I can’t tell you how happy that made me. I received this postcard first. I love the quote and have it propped up on my desk.

Oh, how true!

Yesterday, I received a little package from Terri. Of course, I opened it at the theater so I have to tell you how it was wrapped – in lovely aqua tissue paper with string tied around the package. On the string was a tag. The tag said:

When I flipped the tag over, I saw this:

Inside was this:

I opened up the bag and found this:

The beautiful components to make a flower like the one Terri made at the top of the photo! Isn’t that the best idea? It is the perfect thing for someone like me, away from home and my studio, without access to everything I have there. (I’m so happy I threw some glue in the boxes I sent here!)

Thank you, Terri. Terri is enormously talented, by the way. I continually gasp every time I see one of her creations. If you haven’t visited her wonderful blog, you must!

Have a happy Saturday.

Split Personality

April 13, 2010 at 12:29 pm by Claudia

My husband snapped this photo of me the other day…I had been working for hours cleaning up parts of the property. Covered in dirt, tired and seemingly missing my eyebrows, I was not a candidate for a beauty shot. Despite my husband’s assertion that I looked cute, I knew I looked just plain grubby.

I walked inside the house and found a package waiting for me. This was inside:

One of Lori’s beautiful puffs.

Besides being thrilled to receive this gorgeous, handmade, silken, feminine indulgence, I also laughed out loud. I guess that grubby girl in the photo has a pretty, frou-frou side. We all have contradictory sides to our personalities…I sure do. I think that makes us so much more interesting, don’t you?

I should have had Don take a picture of me in the grubby clothes holding the puff!

Much to do before my 7:15 AM flight on Saturday morning – I’m a bit under the weather today but I have to keep at it.

Have a wonderful day.

Sweet Little Shelf

February 19, 2010 at 8:44 am by Claudia

I found this little treasure the other day at one of my favorite little shops. I wanted to show you how petite it is so I photographed it next to the ‘wrought iron thingy.’ The tag on it said it was used as a spice rack. I just love it – the flower in a deco-like design, its colors of blue and cream and the curvy sides. I’m thinking I might use it in the studio area to hold sewing notions or treasures from my blogging friends. All I know is the minute I spied it in a booth – hidden away on the floor – it was mine.

My friend Donna, from Brynwood Needleworks, surprised me the other day with this lovely Valentine/ATC that she created. She is so talented! It reminds me of something handmade during the Victorian era – sweet, heartfelt and beautiful. Donna, by the way, is having a giveaway for her 300th post, so you just might want to stop by.

It is a very windy Friday here – very windy. Scout and I have to take a quick trip to the Veterinarian’s office and I have errands to run – such as trying to track down a copy of the new Flea Market Style magazine. Let’s hope my local stores have it on the shelf!

Happy Friday!

Edited to add: I found the magazine today at Barnes and Noble – It looks fabulous. I can’t wait to sit down and look through it!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
