Moving Things Around

January 6, 2022 at 10:27 am by Claudia

It’s sunny today! I don’t think it will last, but I’m happy to see it. We’re supposed to get some snow overnight – maybe an inch or two. Since it will be our first real snowfall, we’re looking forward to it. That will change come February, of course.

I moved some things around yesterday because trying to display the girls and my turquoise/aqua McCoy 0n the same small surface had become problematic. As you well know, display space of any kind is limited here and it’s all in use.

But then, I came up with this idea:

Since it was late in the day and darkish when I put them there, I wasn’t sure it was such a good idea. But this morning, I think it’s perfect. It adds some color to this area of wood floor and wooden pew. And nestled under the pew, they’re safe.

The girls are now displayed here:

I grabbed an old sewing machine drawer and placed it on its side to make a platform. This also provides a bit more space for another girl. Ahem.

I asked Don to come look at both this and the McCoy under the pew and he enthusiastically gave it all a thumbs up. Then he stared at the girls and said “They’re works of art.” He especially likes Pip.

How thankful I am that he gets it.

Thank you for all your supportive comments about the girls. It’s good to know that you enjoy seeing them.

In that vein, here’s Imogen in another outfit from LenaLittleDress that arrived while I was away in NYC.

With the yellow shoes!

She looks rather pleased with the ensemble.

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

A Bit of This, A Bit of That

December 29, 2021 at 10:01 am by Claudia

Admittedly, I worked obsessively on the puzzle yesterday, with a long session in the morning and then another one in the afternoon. I finally got the Tower of London in place in the late afternoon and Don said, “Enough! Go sit down. Dinner’s almost ready!” But he understands. He’s the same.

I love, love assembling jigsaw puzzles. I get in a zone, I talk out loud to myself as I fit pieces into place, I feel anxiety fade away. But I must do it all by myself – no help from others. I don’t know how I’d do with any sort of communal jigsaw puzzle. Not too well, I suspect!

I finished the Simenon/Maigret and have started Cloud Cuckoo Land  by Anthony Doerr, who wrote one of my favorite novels ever, All The Light We Cannot See. He’s brilliant.

A package arrived yesterday from Northfield Primitives (in Yorkshire, England.) Of course, I had to photograph this new member of the family. Meet Bertie:

Imogen has been walking him.

Isn’t he adorable? Isn’t she adorable?

We watched a new documentary about Kurt Vonnegut the other evening and it was excellent! If you’re at all interested, it’s on Amazon Prime. There was so much I didn’t know about him. What an amazing and brilliant man he was.

Okay. I’m off to organize and clean up my studio/office space which I said I would do yesterday.

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

The Girls

October 21, 2021 at 8:43 am by Claudia

Still feeling under the weather; in fact, I feel worse today. It’s all head congestion, nothing in the chest and none of the Covid systems. Just sinus/allergies, I think. But I don’t have a lot of energy. I had some yesterday for a brief span in the afternoon, so I vacuumed and dusted and cleaned Don’s mini studio. But now? Crappity-crap-crap.

I was going to get my driver’s license renewed today but I think I’ll do it by mail and try to get the eye test when I’m in NYC. I don’t have the energy to stand in line for a long time.

I have lists of things to do and accomplish before I go, but it increasingly looks like I’ll do it all at the last minute and have Don bring anything I forgot when he visits me the next weekend.

It will all work out.

In the meantime, I did manage to dress the girls in their new dresses yesterday:

These sweet dresses were made by a lovely woman who lives in Russia, @puppet_story on IG. (Who knew I would be conversing with so many Russians?) She made them to order and consulted with me on the fabric choices. I’d seen some of her work elsewhere and was so enchanted by her creations that I messaged her, waited until she had an opening, and finally, placed my order. I must say, her work is impeccable.

Sophie is not happy that this house is too small for her to live in.

Neither is Imogen, but she’s a bit more easy going.

In fact, they inspected every house inside the cottage and none of them were the right size.

So, they’re sitting on the piano, looking a bit miffed.

Ah well.

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
