Obsessively Puzzling

March 6, 2022 at 9:09 am by Claudia

I finished The World of the Tudors yesterday afternoon. I did it in 3 days, which is a record! There’s the big Tudor Rose smack dab in the middle of the puzzle. The colors in this particular puzzle make me happy. I really love this series. There are only two left that I haven’t done and one is on my kitchen table ready to go – The World of James Joyce. If you’re interested, you can find them on Amazon under Lawrence King Publishing or you could google any of the titles.

Livvy helped me.

I’m feeling down – but who isn’t, given the state of the world? Don is also down. We’re grateful there is no break and that surgery isn’t needed, but he’s still in a great deal of pain. He gets frustrated and tries to hurry the process along. We had a talk this morning about how he needs to be patient and slow down and perhaps have his doctor refer him for physical therapy.

It’s going to reach the 60s today in a freakish weather change. It’s also going to rain both today and tomorrow. Then back down to the 40s, which is fine. I’m hearing more and more birdsong every day and the Carolina wren few into the trailer yesterday. Maybe he’s staking his claim?

Oh, spring. You can’t come soon enough.

Stay safe.

Happy Sunday.

A Gently Falling Snow Kind of Morning

January 20, 2022 at 9:12 am by Claudia

I woke up quite early this morning, earlier than Don. I came downstairs and turned on our little lamps, turned up the heat, turned off the alarm, and then started the coffee. There’s something lovely about turning on the lights in the winter. Not the overhead lights in the kitchen – too jarring. Just the little lamp on the counter. I had a bit of quiet time before Don came downstairs.

As always when this happens, Don leaves the bedroom quietly, assuming I’m still asleep. He shuts the door quietly. Then he sees the lights on downstairs and realizes I’m up.

I read a big chunk of Cloud Cuckoo Land. Don made our second cup of coffee and we sat and watched the snow gently falling. We’re not in for any big accumulation – maybe an inch or less. But since all our snowfalls so far have occurred overnight, it’s nice to see it falling in the daylight.

I’ve ordered Don to take it easy today, as he spent the last three days shoveling heavy snow. I know he’ll play his guitar which will be the perfect accompaniment to the day.

And I’m appreciating our cozy home.

Two outfits for the girls arrived in the mail yesterday. One of them took a long time to get here and then it was in customs in Chicago for two weeks. I’d almost given up hope. The other came all the way from China. (I’ll show you that one another day.)

Two skirts from my friend Lena of LenaLittleDress. All the way from Russia. Aren’t they sweet?

One of them, along with a sweater that I believe was included in the box when I received Zoe in the mail, ended up on Olivia. I adore her.

I cannot cope with the cuteness.

Livvy kept me company throughout the rest of the afternoon.

I wonder what Scout would think of the girls? She was ever curious. I wish I could see that.

I’m thinking of knitting sweaters for my girls. I have to do some research and see if there are any patterns out there or do I just wing it (not a good idea) and what size needles to use. It might end up being a disaster, but what the heck?

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

The Three Sisters

January 14, 2022 at 8:55 am by Claudia

We have a wind advisory tonight with wind chills hitting well below zero. Oh, goody. High winds (which make me tense) and very cold temps. This weekend will be a frigid one and then snow on Monday, but the amount forecast has decreased to 1 – 3 inches.

That’s your Hudson Valley Weather Report for today.

There’s lots for me to tackle around here, none of which I seem to be doing. Winter inertia has set in.

But in the meantime, let’s look at beautiful Mei, because that’s all I’ve got for you today.

She’s so pretty.

The Three Sisters.

As I said on IG: Chekhov Revisited.

Which one is Olga? (I played Olga in grad school.) And Masha? And Irina?

Irina is the youngest sister so that would be Olivia, on the left.

Masha is the passionate middle sister, so that might be Mei, on the right.

And that leaves Pippa to play Olga.

I love all my girls, but it’s clear I have a soft spot for VegaDolls. There’s something about those sweet little faces that gets to me.

Okay. Short but sweet, I hope.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
