Mei, Spiders & A Question

September 9, 2023 at 9:08 am by Claudia

Okay. My first question – maybe my only question: Has anyone had the RSV vaccine yet? If so, how was it? They recommend getting it in September, so we’re contemplating doing that. At the same time, I’m masking now whenever I go out, so maybe I don’t have to worry?

Interestingly, after a stretch of time where weren’t masking, I’ve had to work hard to persuade Don to mask. He’s so used to not doing it. And he wasn’t really reading the information about the new variant or the numbers of people getting Covid. I kept mentioning all the people I knew who had it for the first time after 3 years of avoiding it. He would sort of wave me off because I think he didn’t want to deal with that reality. But he’s masking now. Obviously, when he has a gig, he won’t wear a mask while performing.

This will be our future, I think. A new variant every year. All thanks to those who insisted on not wearing a mask. Who thought only of themselves and not the greater good.

I have yet to pick a new subject to paint, I’ll force myself to make a choice today.

My favorite spider, weaving his web down by the road. He was in my main garden bed a couple of weeks ago – that’s a first.

Big news on the doll front, Mei has bangs.

An online Blythe friend suggested it. Her gorgeous angora hair is very fine and flyaway and it’s always been hard to keep it out of her face. I thought about it yesterday, talked to Don about it, and then….I just did it. I also trimmed the length of her hair about a 1/4 of an inch. I liked it very much, but then, when we were sitting on the sofa, I could see her with her eyes in this position “looking” at me. Was she angry? Was she saying “What did you do??” And ,as I reminded Don, they’re not going to grow back.

This morning, though, I looked at her and had no qualms about cutting them. I really like the way they frame her face. And her hair is much easier to handle.

That’s it. I’m so, so close to the end of  War and Peace! I think I’ll get there this weekend.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

Thursday Thoughts

July 7, 2022 at 8:22 am by Claudia

Last night.

We finished watching Borgen: The Power and the Glory last night. This series is truly excellent. Who knew Danish politics could be so riveting? Now we’re watching the latest installment of Stranger Things. They couldn’t be more different, so when we switched to Stranger Things  right after finishing Borgen, it was a little jarring!

We’re in the midst of several days in a row with no rain, so I may do some mowing. I will definitely be spraying all the plants in the garden beds with the deer repellent recipe. I still don’t trust those adorable, yet pesky, critters. We haven’t seen the fawns for the past couple of weeks. I know that deer change their daily routes frequently, so I’m not surprised but I’d love to see just how much they’ve grown. Haven’t seen the groundhog in ages. I hope he/she is okay. The bunnies are here every day – usually just one, but every once in a while we see two of them.

The other day, I saw that the abandoned nest just outside the shed was falling down, so I decided to remove it, whereupon a panicked mouse ran out! It was just like a children’s story with a sleepy mouse nestled in a nest. I feel badly, so I’m going to put it back today.

Mei was hanging out on my puzzle the other day.

We might be seeing a new member of the family in the coming weeks. Alright, we will  be seeing a new member of the family. She was very inexpensive. I fell in love with her and here’s the icing on the cake – she’s from Ukraine. I’ve been highlighting Ukraine Blythe accounts/customizers on my IG Blythe feed and have them saved under Ukraine in my highlights. I think it’s important to support our friends there as they cope with displacement, or in the case of this customizer, staying there and living every day with the devastation of the war. I don’t know how long it will take for her to arrive. Apparently, the package is taken to the border, then transferred to another country, most likely Poland, and flown to the United States from there.

Okay. Time to figure out the day ahead.

Stay safe.

Happy Thursday.

Friday: Mei, The Fawn, and The Hearings

June 17, 2022 at 9:00 am by Claudia

Mei is enjoying the glider this morning.

Mei is the creation of my friend Natalia of VegaDolls. I really love her work and was originally introduced to her dolls by my friend Susannah, who has at least 3 of them (so do I.) She might have more. Natalia has a big heart. VegaDolls is named after Natalia’s daughter, Vega, who is in a wheelchair. Both Susannah and I say that her girls are full of heart and soul.

Latest in the mom and fawn stories. Yesterday, we were in the house and, once again, I saw a deer run from the front lawn up to the corral. I wasn’t sure who it was, but soon enough, we saw the fawn coming down from the corral to the area right outside our kitchen door. She was bleating, poor thing, wondering were her mom was. Mom was over by the wood pile near the shed. Of course, I always want to go out there and guide her to her mom, but I’d only scare her. Meanwhile, Mom walked up the path into the woods while baby went up into the back forty. Honestly, I think Mom hasn’t a clue!

I’m pretty sure that they travel across the road to get to the creek, but it’s very dangerous and there are other paths to the water that are safer. But there’s nothing I can do.

Except worry, of course.

The hearings. Oh my god. I am so hyped up after they finish that I have to meditate. Yesterday’s hearing was the most powerful so far (to me.) Trump incited a mob to attack his Vice-President. Did you ever think you would read those words other than in a piece of fiction?

Can we tar and feather him before he’s thrown in prison for the rest of his sorry life?

Okay, Claudia. Take a deep breath.

I may mow a bit today. The front lawn and the lilac side of the lawn need to be taken care of.

We’re watching Borgen  on Netflix. We started it a year or so ago, but didn’t get into it. We decided to give it another look and now we’re hooked.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
