A Slight Snag

Okay. I’m here in Chautauqua. It’s very late on Wednesday evening.

Very tired. The train was delayed an hour and when I arrived in Buffalo, I was picked up and driven to Chautauqua, which is an hour and a half away. By the time I got in, it was 8:30. Then Ryan, the Assistant Company Manager, had me sign a bunch of forms and took me grocery shopping.

This will be short and sweet, however, because my Magsafe adaptor (the adaptor and plug for my Macbook) died on the train and I didn’t know it, therefore the battery wore down since I was reading the script for the play. I’ve ordered one from Apple and it should be here on Friday. (Very pricey by the way.) So a post for Thursday. No post on Friday. Back to posting on Saturday.

Yikes.

Happy Thursday.

A Cuppa. Or Two. Or Three.

Say what?

Remember me saying I was going to go back to Anthropologie on Wednesday? Because it was in a pretty little shopping center where I could do some window shopping?

Ummm….these came home with me.

fricups

I couldn’t help it. They’re so pretty. And big, so they hold a lot of coffee or tea or…hot chocolate!

It all started out with me thinking I should get one more like the two cups I bought the other day. For those of you who didn’t see the post, I’m talking about the one on the right. Anthropologie has carried that design for a long time and there weren’t that many on display and I worried that they might stop carrying them. Can you blame me?

So I walked over to the display and grabbed one more. In aqua. With an aqua handle.

Then I saw more and more beautiful, heavy, wonderful-to-hold cups. I told myself that I would choose one more. Just one.

I went for the one in the middle. With an aqua handle.

But then, right before I was going to head to the checkout, I saw the one on the left. With an aqua handle. And aqua everywhere.

Oh my heavens.

You know the rest.

fribluecup

Not only are they pretty on the outside, but they’re pretty on the inside. I am in love.

These are my current favorite things. I now have five of them. I have a plan for displaying them. We’ll see how it works out.

I hardly ever buy anything new or spend money on what I would normally call an indulgence. Our budget is beyond tight. But…I’ve been away from my loved ones for nine weeks. It’s been very hard to be separated from Don and Scout. So you know what? I’m giving myself a little present. I deserve it.

Everyone deserves a treat now and then.

I think I shall start collecting these. I guess I already have.

Tonight is opening night. Tomorrow, I head home. I wrestled all week long with whether I should go home early or stay for the opening. I really shy away from parties now that I’m older. My partying days are long gone. But, I decided to stay. So today I’m going to start packing up my things, take a little walk, and say goodbye to the ducks (I sat in the sun for an hour or so yesterday and watched them. They were napping. It was wonderful.)

A heads up: tomorrow is my dad’s 90th birthday. I’m going to write a little post about it and if you dear friends could come back tomorrow and leave a birthday message, I will print them out and send them to him. He doesn’t read the blog any more, which makes me sad, but it’s too much for him to remember every day. Anyway, is it a deal? Not today. Tomorrow. (I wasn’t entirely clear about that on the post, so I edited it to include that info. Tomorrow.)

Thanks!

Happy Friday.

Gathering

September 25, 2013 at 9:07 am by Claudia

wedacorns

I’ve been hunting and gathering. Oh, not food. Just my own little gallery of natural wonders.

I can’t walk through the park, which is filled with a large variety of beautiful trees, without bringing something home to the apartment. It’s my version of walking on the beach, eyes trained downward, looking for seashells. (After writing that, I now want to be on a beach.) I found this branch from an oak tree on the ground one day. It had broken off, most likely in a storm, and it had this cluster of young acorns. I nabbed it and carried it around with me as I ran errands and checked out books from the library. This one is a keeper.

wedfeathers

Yesterday I found these feathers. Very fluffy and translucent. Are they from a young bird? They are really beautiful.

wedacorncap

This older, somewhat grizzled acorn cap called to me. Look at that amazing texture. It’s the wise old man of acorn caps.

I have leaves, feathers, acorns, and pods. Some of them will go home with me on Saturday, some may be too delicate to transport. We’ll see.

wednaturalwonders

It’s my little Cabinet of Natural Wonders, minus the cabinet.

This last stretch in Hartford is somewhat maddening. I really don’t have anything more to do on either of the plays. It’s more than time for me to back off and let the actors be. I went to Macbeth last night and took a few notes. La Dispute is in good shape, I don’t need to see it again. Technically, I could go home right now and boy am I homesick! But, I almost always stay for opening night, which is this Friday. It’s nice to salute the actors and the director and this particular opening night kicks off the 50th Anniversary Season. So, I’ll probably stay. And, as Don tells me, I should enjoy a bit more time to myself while I can. He calls it my “Mary Tyler Moore” life. It sort of is. Except I’m not single and I’m not dating. Maybe I’ll go toss my hat in the air.

So, I’m trying to stay in the moment and simply enjoy my remaining time here. I won’t be back for quite a while, maybe even a year. The weather is beautiful. I have a park to walk in. I’m making another trip to Anthropologie today – it’s in an lovely shopping center that I thought I would explore. It’s a good day to window shop.

The nights and early mornings have been quite cool. And, of course, once it got considerably cooler out, the air conditioning was finally fixed. Ah well.

Missing husband and sweet dog. Trying to stay in the moment. Thankful for all of you.

Happy Wednesday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
