Don is playing his guitar quietly in the living room while I write this in the den. It’s rather nice to hear a gentle accompaniment while I write.

The email version of yesterday’s post just went out – 24 hours after I published it. I will reiterate: don’t rely on the email any longer. Soon, because Google is purposely neglecting it, it will fail altogether. I can always tell when it hasn’t gone out because comments greatly decrease. And it’s not that I care about comments or want you to feel any pressure about commenting – I don’t – it’s just a reliable indicator that many of you are still relying on the email. I issue these period warnings because, trust me, the service will eventually stop.

End of Public Service Announcement.

My anxiety is back, full throttle, so I’m trying to keep busy. There’s a lot going on right now with family and friends. Lots of worries. So I started another puzzle yesterday and that helped. I played with my dolls.

Pippa and Mei discussing artwork for the house.

Clearly, Mei has an opinion.

Pip took off her shoes and got down to business.

We watched our favorite night of television last night: Around the World in Eighty Days  and All Creatures Great and Small  on PBS. And we ate Chinese takeout.

That’s about it, my friends. I have some things to take care of today and I want to get back to my book, which is brilliantly written. (Cloud Cuckoo Land  by Anthony Doerr.)

Stay safe.

Happy Monday.

The Three Sisters

January 14, 2022 at 8:55 am by Claudia

We have a wind advisory tonight with wind chills hitting well below zero. Oh, goody. High winds (which make me tense) and very cold temps. This weekend will be a frigid one and then snow on Monday, but the amount forecast has decreased to 1 – 3 inches.

That’s your Hudson Valley Weather Report for today.

There’s lots for me to tackle around here, none of which I seem to be doing. Winter inertia has set in.

But in the meantime, let’s look at beautiful Mei, because that’s all I’ve got for you today.

She’s so pretty.

The Three Sisters.

As I said on IG: Chekhov Revisited.

Which one is Olga? (I played Olga in grad school.) And Masha? And Irina?

Irina is the youngest sister so that would be Olivia, on the left.

Masha is the passionate middle sister, so that might be Mei, on the right.

And that leaves Pippa to play Olga.

I love all my girls, but it’s clear I have a soft spot for VegaDolls. There’s something about those sweet little faces that gets to me.

Okay. Short but sweet, I hope.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

A Very Cold Saturday

January 8, 2022 at 10:08 am by Claudia

My parents’ 45+ year old sansevieria is blooming again. There’s another stalk in the back that already bloomed. The scent is heavenly but it is most powerful at night. One year there were three separate stalks, but usually there are two. I like to think of them as Mom and Dad paying a visit.

It is extremely cold here today. It took a long time for the house to warm up. It’s going to stay that way through Tuesday, so we’re in for some Wintery temps.

But it’s sunny today. Tomorrow, rain, sleet, some snow, and ice. Oh, goody.

Other than that, which goes with the territory in the Hudson Valley, Don is going to brave the cold and recycle this morning and I’m going to work on a few little projects. We’re trying to keep busy while we try to come to terms with the precarious health of Don’s best friend, who is also my very good friend. We love him dearly and, try as we might to distract ourselves, our thoughts are with him. As they should be.

So here’s something cute and distracting:

Livvy and Pip, my two girls customized by VegaDolls. I love looking at these two cuties. Natalia, of VegaDolls, lives in Spain and she is such a lovely person! Her dolls are unlike any others out there and I am very, very taken by them. You can feel Natalia’s sweetness in them.

Rest in Peace, Sidney Poitier. A giant of a man in every way.

Don met him years ago. I’ll let him tell you (from Facebook):

Decades ago I was in a drugstore in Beverly Hills and found myself standing next to him. Against my own judgement, I gingerly approached and introduced myself. I told him I was so very sorry to bother him, but he was a true inspiration. He smiled. Yes, that smile. He shook my hand and said, “I’m Sidney, Don, thank you.”

Okay my friends. I’m running a little late this morning.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
