Glimpses of the Garden

July 12, 2010 at 8:48 am by Claudia

We had a nice gentle rain the other day. Yesterday, the sky got all dark and thundery and we sat on the porch eagerly awaiting a big old rainstorm. We got a few drops. The weather report assures us that there are thunderstorms on the way over the next several days. Please?

Today: 90 degrees. Don’t like.

How about some garden photos? I’ve been walking around the garden the last few days, snapping away.

While I was away, my husband kept telling me about this plant that was taking over the garden. I suspected it was my Jacobs Ladder and I was right. Yikes! When I got home and investigated, I found it everywhere. My first go at the garden was mainly yanking out some of the over-eager Jacobs Ladder. It is a fabulous plant for under my maple tree because it works so well in the shade. It just needs some firm discipline from Mama Gardener – me.

This hosta was already established when we bought the cottage. I’ve added several more since we moved in. The area right by the porch entrance is shaded by the maple and hostas work very well there.

Coneflowers
Bee Balm and Catmint
Evening Primrose
Lady Elsie May rose

Day Lilies
The first bloom on my David Phlox

My ever-faithful companions on porch patrol. They’re on top of things, so don’t try any high jinks on their watch!

Did you have a good weekend? Mine is always good if there is some time with my garden and my loved ones.

Meeting Dogs & Naming the Koala

May 13, 2010 at 12:56 am by Claudia

You know how much I miss my two babies:

I even miss their demanding ways. They called me on Mother’s Day, you know. Riley barked and Scout howled and Don assured me they were saying “Happy Mother’s Day.”

San Diego has always been dog happy. There are dogs everywhere. There are dog beaches, dog parks, dog washes….you name it. We partook of it all when we lived here. I’ve always been the type to stop and talk to dogs and their owners. Can’t help it. Now that I am seriously dog-deprived, I have to stop and chat with every dog I see. I’ve met two Boston Terriers named Dot and Dash, a little dog that had just been adopted 2 hours earlier and was giving her new owner a run for her money, a sweet, elderly dog with 3 legs who travels in a stroller, and many more.

These little encounters help me in this prolonged period away from my babies. I get my ‘fix’ and meet some wonderful dogs and their owners. I always leave each meeting with a smile on my face and a lighter heart.

I saw my little Koala twice today. On the way home, I saw him/her stand and stretch but I couldn’t get my camera out quickly enough to snap a photo. Instead: sleeping. I think we should think of a name for this little one. I can’t think of one (I think I have too many Shakespearean words in my head) so will you leave your suggestions? I’ll post all your ideas and then I’ll pick one. Thanks in advance, my friends!

A Note from the Family

May 5, 2010 at 11:49 am by Claudia

The other day a little note arrived in my mail slot at the theater. The sender was: Sad Trio.

Scout’s writing is getting better all the time. Riley’s – not so much.

I miss my little sad trio – but this little note sure made my day!

Have a great Wednesday.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
