Rain, Rain Go Away

August 13, 2009 at 9:20 am by Claudia

Enough, already. Rain and more rain…thunderstorms, power outages, humidity. Welcome to the Hudson Valley in August. Frankly, I’m trying to be tolerant, but failing. My poor husband, who has been here all summer enduring much more rain than usual, is beyond tired of it.

And these guys?

Bored.

Wants to go for a walk.
Sorry, little ones…too wet outside. Maybe I’ll try some sewing. My little sewing nook is lovely but its home in the hallway with no A/C limits my time there in the summer. But today is dark and rainy…so perhaps it will be cool enough to create something? Cross your fingers.

I’ve Emerged From the Black Hole!

July 28, 2009 at 10:44 am by Claudia

Doesn’t this look like fun? I read about this blog party and thought I’d join in on Friday. If you’re interested, just go to Marie’s blog and read all the details. I have a few things I can share – and even more in storage (by that I mean my friend’s basement in Detroit) that I can’t get to.

I emerged from the guest bedroom/office/husband’s recording studio with achy muscles, having made some major headway with the mess. Things are more organized, many things were tossed, and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Quite frankly, we sometimes think we should eliminate the bed and buy a sofa bed. So much space would be freed up. We don’t have guests that often and it seems silly to have a bed taking up all that space. My only qualm is that it is a good mattress, everyone always says they love sleeping on it, and I know sofa bed mattresses can be a little problematic. We have only 2 bedrooms here – and two adults who do a lot of their work at home. We’re still pondering.

Yes, it is Scout, Riley and me posing on the porch. Notice our chippy/rusty glider. I always think I should paint it, but I sort of like it this way. The dogs have on their decorated scarves that I made for Kelee Katillac’s cause. She has extended the deadline and if you would still like to decorate a scarf for an incredibly good cause – helping homeless dogs – please stop by her blog and scroll down for more information. It only takes a little bit of time!

Have a great day everyone!

She’s Moved In

July 17, 2009 at 10:19 am by Claudia

Remember this sweetie from Heidi’s shop? When we did our dual Pink Saturday posts, I made it clear that I wanted her. The story behind the doll: Heidi and I were on an antiquing jaunt and we spied this little honey. Heidi immediately thought she would look perfect in the baby room. When we took her up to the counter and remarked on her wonderful condition, we were told that doll collectors would pass on her because she had two left feet. Not ‘two left feet’ as in she can’t dance, but two actual left feet. Often times well-loved dolls needed replacement parts and this little girl had a replacement leg sewn on that had another left foot. Oh my. That only made us love her more. We took her back to the shop and Heidi placed her in the room, where she looked adorable.

I loved her. When I came home in April and visited the shop, Heidi and I got to talking about her. I decided I really wanted her. Heidi marked her sold and I brought her home yesterday.

There was a frenzy of sniffing going on here, hence the blurriness of the photo. Are their noses out of joint? Are they excited at the thought of a sibling? Or do they want to nibble on her?

We have to think of a name. And it has to start with an ‘H’ since that seems to be the theme at Heidi’s shop. I have some ideas, but I would love to hear yours.

Update: My sister suggested Tressa, which was the name of my Grandfather’s sister. She’s absolutely right – that name means a lot to us, so Tressa it will be. My Aunt was called Tress by those near and dear to her.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
