A Potpourri

March 22, 2010 at 6:00 am by Claudia

First up: McCoy Pottery, specifically, this green vase. This is a more recent acquisition – I love the lines of the piece and the little leaves at the top of each handle. This vase lives on top of my white cupboard in the living room, along with 2 other green vases and a green jardiniere.

Since it is Spring and Easter is coming, I thought I’d share some of the egg cups from my collection. Most of my egg cups are what are called figural egg cups. I am entranced by the whimsical figures on each of them – they take me back to my childhood.

This is one of the seven dwarfs – Doc. These egg cups were issued in 1939 and are very collectable. I only have one but would love to collect all of them, including Snow White. They come up for auction occasionally on eBay and are pretty expensive.

Humpty Dumpty – made in England.

This is one of my very favorites. I remember bidding right up to the close of the auction on eBay! I really wanted it. The rabbit as artist is so delightful!

I’ll be sharing some more of my egg cups in the next few weeks.

Square #22:

The stage with a traditional red velvet curtain. I have logged thousands and thousands of hours in theaters since I began to act at the age of 12. For many years I was an actress, earned my MFA in Acting, acted professionally and eventually became a teacher and coach of actors. I have my home here at Mockingbird Hill Cottage and then there is my other home – the inside of a theater.

Have a wonderful Monday.

Fabric Easter Eggs & Squares 20 & 21

March 20, 2010 at 5:17 pm by Claudia

Time for my fabric eggs to show their faces…I gathered them up today and placed them in the wrought iron thingy. Then I looped a little organdy ribbon through it. For those of you new to the blog, I was whipping these up last year at this time when I spent 6 months in San Diego. My friend Ingrid let me borrow her Featherweight and I was sewing up a storm. It is fun to see them again with their cheery colors.

I’m not sure what to put in the bottom basket of the wrought iron thingy…still pondering that one. Any ideas?

Today might be the last of our days of glorious weather for a bit. It is supposed to be cloudy and cooler tomorrow with rain moving in on Monday and Tuesday. I can’t complain: I’ve been able to accomplish some clean-up in the yard, take the dogs on some much-needed walks, sit on my glider on the porch and feel the sun on my face. It has been so beautiful that I’ve had to force myself to read scripts and prep.

Don is thoroughly exhausted and is taking it easy today. Lee is stable. He did open his eyes for several minutes yesterday.

Squares 20 and 21:

A wheelbarrow filled with flowers for planting.

A robin’s egg surrounded by…well, I’m not sure. It is either a ribbon or a vine. I just like the look of it! Some of you have asked what I am going to do with this when it is all finished. I’m leaning toward framing it. I really love how it is turning out; it’s full of my favorite things.

I’m caught up on the squares through Sunday – see you Monday!

Rearranging, Allergies, Square #19

March 19, 2010 at 8:28 am by Claudia

I can tell Spring is here by the warmer temperatures, the tiny little buds on my plants, having the windows open…and my gosh darn allergies. I can’t stop sneezing, my head is stuffed up and I’m having trouble hearing out of one ear. Why is it that the beauty of Spring brings yucky allergies along with it? Doesn’t seem fair, does it?

Our living room is tiny and there are certain pieces of furniture that can’t be moved: the piano, the loveseat, the sideboard. The chairs, however, are another story. All three chairs are in new positions. This started when Riley was really having trouble with stairs and Don and I decided to keep him out of the den for a few days (there are 2 steps down into the den.) Since I blog in the den and Riley always wants to be near me, we moved the most comfortable chair in the living room (the yellow one) nearer to an outlet. That meant the red chair had to move to the other side of the loveseat and this wicker rocker moved to the space vacated by the yellow chair. We’re now back to blogging in the den. However, we like the new arrangement so we’re going to go with it for a while. Sometimes necessity forces one to make a perfect change.

Those of you who have been reading this blog for a while might remember this photo of Riley:

That was the idea behind Square #19:

The adorable back of Mr. Riley’s head with the one thing that is always on his mind – food. I tried to stitch the letters for food in what doggie thoughts/writing might look like.

Lee remains the same. The sedation was eased yesterday and Lee opened an eye and Don talked to him a bit – telling him where he was, what day it was, etc. Much of the time for the family is spent waiting. Waiting for any sign of improvement. My hope is that something very positive happens before Don has to leave on Monday night. He would be able to leave on a hopeful note. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers…if you don’t mind, could you keep them coming?

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
