Some Wednesday Randomness

February 9, 2011 at 1:40 pm by Claudia

:: Thank you friends for all the wonderful comments about Studios magazine. I promise to share more when we get closer to February 22nd. Honestly, when I look at all the other studios in the magazine, my  hallway/landing space looks very teeny. Who am I kidding? It is! Even so, I spent a lot of time and love on it, so I am thrilled to see it in print.

:: What else is new at MHC? Not a whole lot. I’ve been away from rehearsals for a few days as the director and actors work through parts of the play. I’m returning to the city tomorrow – bright and early. I just may have to reward myself for rising at the crack of dawn with a little trip to Daytona Trimmings for some more Perle Cotton, don’t you think?

:: Remember my photo of the rainbow over MHC? Several of you suggested I enlarge it and get it framed. Well, I did and that led to enlarging another photo that I loved and suddenly we have an ‘arrangement’ above the piano.

The photo on the right is of my doggies. I was sitting in a chair in the living room and Miss Scoutie walked up to Riley and thank goodness I had my camera with me because such sweetness must be captured. The 3 photos below are of me on our wedding day. (Husband insisted I hang it there.) And the other photo is of me, sitting on this very same piano bench when I was 8 years old. I think I had just started taking piano lessons. I’m holding my little sister – the one who hasn’t visited my parents in 9 years and no longer speaks to me or my sister Meredith. That’s a whole other story and one that makes me angry and sad, so I’ll move on.

:: As in a game of musical chairs, the living room chairs have all moved one position clockwise.

You can’t see it because, of course, I never photograph it, but there is a boot tray just to the left and behind the red chair. Since we don’t have a separate entryway or mud room, we have to shed our shoes and boots just inside the side door. Not very attractive. Since this weather is so messy, we are often flinging bits of salt and ice off our boots and jackets. The yellow chair is the only chair that we bought new and I became nervous about it getting dirty – maybe because it was getting dirty. A little change is good, right?

:: The view through our windshield as we drove northward on Sunday. We had a little pre-Valentine’s Day brunch while listening to the beautiful songs of some friends of ours. Do you see the darker clouds low on the horizon? Right below them you can just make out the Catskill Mountains.

:: Today is very cold, but Don was talking to a local guy who said it is supposed to get milder next week and that we might have a milder than normal February and March.

I’m crossing my fingers.

May I Share a Little Secret?

February 8, 2011 at 1:12 pm by Claudia

May I? In the midst of a gray winter with only pockets of sunshine, I received a lovely envelope in yesterday’s mail. I’ve been keeping this under wraps and now I can share a little of it with you. The envelope contained my complimentary copy of the new spring Studios magazine.

My little studio is one of the featured studios.

Oh. my. goodness.

Yes, Ty Pennington and I are both in the Featured Studios section. In fact, my studio is only a few pages beyond Ty’s really cool new studio. Pretty neat!

Seriously, I am over-the-moon about this wonderful honor. And I have to thank my friend Susan Borgen of The T-Cozy for facilitating it. Susan writes wonderful articles for Studios and she told Cate Coulacos Prato, the Editor of this beautiful magazine, about my space. Before I knew it, I was taking photos, husband was coerced into taking photos of me and I was writing a piece about the creation of my space.

You’ll think it a tad silly but yesterday when the comp copy arrived, Don and I sat down together to open it. And we oohed and aahed and celebrated.

Have you seen this wonderful magazine? It’s published quarterly and is chock-full of fabulous studio spaces with many helpful articles and valuable tips. Studios is bright, colorful and beautifully designed. It’s from Cloth, Paper, Scissors magazine and published by Interweave Press. I’ve been a fan for a long time which makes this all the more sweet.

Now, the magazine doesn’t hit the newstands until February 22. If you’d rather avoid the stores, it’s available for pre-order here. So, I’m only going to show you a little tease:

In alphabetical order, there I am, third from the top. And that’s my white basket of fabric in the bottom photo.

I’ll show you more as February 22 draws nearer.

A warm and grateful thank you to Cate and the wonderful staff of Studios and to Susan Borgen. I am thrilled with the layout and the design and the look of the article. I couldn’t be prouder.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
