A Bit of Everything

April 30, 2009 at 11:14 am by Claudia

As I was signing into my blog today, I realized that my previous post was my 200th! Who would have thought? I know I should have some sort of giveaway, but I’m afraid I’m too busy at the moment. I will have one soon, I promise. The photo is of our Sugar Maple tree – my husband sent it to me to prove that Spring is definitely here – or there – back home at MHC.

Yesterday was an unsettling day for me. I am my own worse enemy, I know – I am so busy right now coaching four different productions (which is one too many) that I worry my work won’t be of the standard to which I aspire. I am a worrier, and although I have made great strides in that area, I still fall into that abyss from time to time. The theater has, quite frankly, dropped the ball and scheduled a heavy dialect show at the same time as the Shakespeare Repertory. I would ask what were they thinking, but the fact is, they weren’t. So, yesterday I was struggling with worry, and then read on Facebook that one of my former students, who lives in Los Angeles, had the back window in her car shot out – while she was driving. Apparently, she beeped the horn at someone who was crossing into her lane, just beeped, and the driver pulled up along side her car and shot out the window. The window that is right above the car seat her little boy uses. Fortunately, he wasn’t in the car. And fortunately, my friend is fine. She wasn’t hurt. The whole thing is horrifying and frightening. The police were wonderful, but there was no way that my friend could identify the license plate number, as she was too busy ducking to protect herself. All of this made for a rocky day.

I’ve managed to start today in a better place and am thankful each day starts fresh and new. I promised to share photos with you of my treasures from the Barn Sale. I didn’t buy a lot, but here’s what I brought back to Mockingbird Hill Cottage West.

I fell in love with this – it came from Mexico and is quite large. I envision it in the middle of my round kitchen table. I think I can create lots of different vignettes in it. Of course, it could also go outside. But I’m thinking, inside. Note to Susan: I say this with love but you can’t have it.

I also fell in love with this –

Here it is filled with flowers –

I had to get a little something from Christie Repasy –

You know how much I love her work. I decided to lean it against the front of my printer, which is directly behind my laptop. That way I get to see it every time I use the laptop – which is a great deal of the time.

I’ve been seriously thinking about making some jewelry, so I am starting to gather some bits and bobs – I grabbed these –

Southern California seems to be full of wonderful places like the antiques stores in Ocean Beach or the Barn Sale. Much more than in upstate New York. I will miss these incredible shopping experiences. Soon, on one of my days off, I plan to visit Christie Repasy in her studio and shop. That will be such fun and of course, I will share it with you.

Have a great day.

Early Sunday

April 19, 2009 at 11:53 am by Claudia

I’m afraid my body clock hasn’t adjusted to the time change yet, so I keep waking up quite early. On one hand, I need more sleep. On the other hand, I love the quiet of the early morning hours. The day promises to be a very warm one here in San Diego. I walked to the theater yesterday, and let me tell you, I felt the heat! Perhaps I sweated some pounds off? I have to walk there again today because it is Earth Day and in Balboa Park parking will be impossible. By the way, Happy Earth Day! I plan to investigate some of the booths while making my way to the rehearsal hall.

My work here is picking up – as of Tuesday all the actors will be in town for the Summer Repertory and I will be coaching 4 productions at once. To say my plate will be full is an understatement!

I was a happy camper yesterday because I signed up for MLB -TV and can now watch the Red Sox on my laptop! Oh boy! I love that I can keep up with my favorite team. The quality of the feed is surprisingly good. I happily sat in my wicker chair watching the game and knitting.

My friend, Elyse, passed on an award to me and I am honored to accept it. Elyse has a wonderful blog called cottage. Please stop by and look at all her wonderful creations. She is a delightful person and I am so glad we are blogging friends. Don’t you just love the cottage logo she uses?

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone. Oh, almost forgot, La Maison Rustique’s barn sale is this Friday and Saturday! I can’t wait to go. Of course, I will once again take lots of photos to share with you.

Eggs on my mind

March 30, 2009 at 12:37 pm by Claudia

Spring is here and my mind keeps going to ‘eggs’ – especially the blue of a bird egg. I found this image courtesy of The Graphics Fairy. She has a wonderful site filled with clip art. I made a copy of it on heavier weight paper and put it in a frame from Ikea. I just love it and it was very inexpensive, too! The tiny eggs came from Vignettes.

I’ve been wrestling with lower back pain lately. The furniture in this apartment is all donated to the theater. As I’ve posted before, none of it is great for my back. Lately, even my best efforts (boards, lumbar pillows) haven’t been helping. In desperation, I went to Ikea yesterday to contemplate buying a proper chair. I have about 3 more months here and don’t see how I can function with chronic pain. I wandered around contemplating my choices. Do I just buy a chair, put it together, knowing that I can’t transport it home? The one I had my eye on came in a more bulky package than I had hoped; not easily repacked and sent home. (The idea of renting a van seems better and better.) In the end, I went with this $39.00 wicker chair, thinking at least it has back support. We’ll give it a try ~ hopefully it will do the trick and I won’t have to spend more money on another chair. I hadn’t been in Ikea for a long while, though why I picked a Sunday I don’t know. It was absolutely jammed with people.

More eggs – I love the pastel of these eggs from Michael’s nestled among my fabric eggs and the new Somerset Life. It is absolutely beautiful! Check out the story inside on La Maison Rustique. By the way, I had a comment from Mary asking more about the sale. Mary, just click the link and all your questions should be answered.

I’m going home for a visit on Saturday! I can’t wait to see my husband, my dogs, my sweet little cottage and work in the garden. (Another reason why I have to get my back in order.) I have Don checking out the yard for signs of life. He assures me that my lilac bush planted last summer has made it through the winter and has little buds on it. Wonderful!

Have a great day.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
