Greetings from the land of abnormally warm temperatures! 77° yesterday, over 80° today. I’ve been cleaning out the garden beds (I’ll be glad when I’m through with all the raking!) I ran to Lowe’s yesterday for new garden gloves and also picked up a paver. Why? Because I’m tired of the bird bath being on a slant (the ground at the top of the drive slants downward) and thought I might be able to get it a bit more level if it was placed on a paver rather than the ground. Mission accomplished, with the help of two stone ‘shims.’
Later in the day, I stopped and visited some friends:
Hello, Emby! The sweetest horse in the world. I fed him lots of carrots, told him that his Uncle Don missed him very much and that I would be visiting him at least once a week. He gave me two kisses. I’m very honored.
That’s Sissy in the shed eating her hay. When she has fresh hay, she has absolutely no interest in carrots. She lifted her head and gave me a look when I called out to her and then went right back to her supper. I messaged these photos to Don and, as I suspected, they made him very happy.
Hello, new Nancy Drew! This (#19 in the series) arrived in the mail yesterday (I have two more on the way.) Nancy is rocking a 40’s hairdo. Love the map, the piano, the globe, the fireplace…all of it.
More egg cups. Walking ware, some California Pottery with the original sticker, Harlequin by Homer Laughlin, a bunny, lustre ware, a chick emerging from an egg and your basic green and white egg cup. The ceramic egg was a gift from my mom. The painted egg may have been, too – I’m not sure.
I have some more that are scattered throughout the house. I’ll gather them together today and take a picture.
My Peet’s is tasting especially good this morning.
Don drove to the desert yesterday on his day off to see the tail end of the wildflower bloom there. But he’s very tired. These are long days in rehearsal and 6 long days a week with only one day off takes its toll. I find I always have to get back ‘in shape’ when I start rehearsals again after a period of time away from them. Don hasn’t done a play in a long time, so it’s a big change for him. And this is a new musical, to boot, with songs, dances, re-writes…everything.
We’re both suffering from a big old case of the ‘misses’, as in “I miss you so much.” It really hit him yesterday. It’s lonely being on the road, even if you’re in the midst of rehearsals with a lot of people. At the end of the day, you go back to your apartment and you’re all alone. I understand, believe me. I’m going to try and get out there in May. We need some time together.
The Anastasia cast album has been recorded and will be available in June. Huzzah!
Happy Tuesday.

so glad you could see emby and sissy, bring them carrots and send their photos to don. :)
hope you can get out to california next month to visit don. and that he gets enough time to rest and get rejuvenated, too.
i want to see jimmy buffett’s musical; having don play a role(s) there would be a bonus!
do you get a copy of the soundtrack of any musical (like anastasia) that you work on? what will you collect once you have all the nancy drew books?!
too soon for 77 degrees, in my opinion, but i would enjoy the ease and sunshine it brings, too.
hope you all have a nice day ahead.

I think I will have to buy my copy of the CD like everyone else!
I’ll find something else to collect – but it has to be smallish! I’ve only got 7 to go!
kathy says
oh, i didn’t mean you’d necessarily be given a copy of the soundtrack (though that would be nice). i just meant if you’d want one in recognition of your work with that musical. kind of like how i keep tickets to concerts, movies and other events i’ve been to.

I’ll buy a copy because I worked on it, but mostly because I LOVE the music!

What weather extremes! We’ve gone back to foggy mornings, typical of summer days … What a pleasant horse visit. I bet they like apples too. Have you run out of room on your shelf of Nancy Drews yet? It’s nice to keep them together in order.
Claudia says
They do like apples and we’ve fed them apples, but carrots are easier and the owner says we can feed them as many carrots as they want.
Haven’t run out of room, but there will have to be some rearranging!

Don must have been so happy to have received those pics! I’m sure your horsey buddies were happy too. Yesterday morning we were running errands in t-shirts…by the afternoon…jackets! But 80 is a bit much for this time of year…especially at this latitude don’t you think? A visit is May sounds like the perfect remedy…hope you can make that happen! ;)
Claudia says
He was! Though it’s lovely, 80 is indeed too hot for April!
Linda @ A La Carte says
Horse kisses might be almost as good as kitty (or in your case doggie) kisses! I know Don misses you, it’s hard to be away after spending so much time together. I’m glad you are going to try to get out there in May. You are acquiring so many of the Nancy Drew’s I hope you can complete the collection. The covers are really works of art. I haven’t been adding much to any of my collections lately, I think the watercolor bug took all my spare change. I did stop by a thrift store today and found a couple of cute things I’ll share Friday. I am finally home with some time to start the A Gentleman in Moscow! I’ve been on a waiting list at the library and now I can’t wait to start it. Sending you hugs!
Claudia says
Horse kisses are pretty cool, Linda!
I think you are going to love A Gentleman in Moscow, Linda.

I was thinking you were going to visit the pair of horses rescued from the old man who’d lived near to you…Pliers? But they’re somewhere else, transitioning? My brain is going…
But I do remember this particular Nancy Drew mystery and it was one of my favorites. Never saw that cover back in the day, though!
May sounds like a perfect time to visit Don and SoCalif; it’ll be here before you know it.
Claudia says
They’re at Catskill Animal Sanctuary, Vicki. They’re doing well.

The happiest story!

Love your new Nancy Drew with that beautiful classic room and Nancy’s hair style. The vibrant colors are wonderful on those book jackets. The egg cup smiles just keep coming when you see them all lined up!
Wishing you and Don your first visit sooner rather than later. Dianne
Claudia says
I have to stick around through the opening of Anastasia and then I have to plant seeds, etc., around the beginning of May. So later in May seems a realistic goal.

I was so happy to get this post. It came in at 7:44 this evening. I thought maybe something was amiss. Must have been a glitch of sorts in my email.
The pics of the horses are great. Bet Don was so happy to see them. I can only imagine how hard a separation of this length is on both of you. Yay to you going for a visit in May. It will help you both! I hate to talk about age…. but I think it gets a bit more difficult as we get older. Or maybe it is the years we have been together which make it harder, and not our age at all.
Our day was oh-so-much colder today than the lovely 70’s of the past two. Glad to know it is only to last for a couple of days before it warms up a bit more.We are watching the WW1 special on PBS. Tonight is part 2. So interesting!! Again, glad to get this post!!
Claudia says
Not your email. The post just went out late for some reason – it’s all up to Feedburner. Hopefully, they’ll get back on track.
I DOES get more difficult as we get older. I’ve been saying that to Don. He feels the same way. I think time together is precious and we are more aware of it the older we get.
Nancy Blue Moon says
I think your buddy Emby needs his bangs trimmed….lol…just kidding..he looks kind of comical in that first picture with the way his mane is laying..I’m so glad that Don got to see the desert flowers in bloom…I saw them online and they were amazing!
Claudia says
He’s a Peruvian horse and that’s the way their manes grow, Nancy. But he does look comical. And he’s muddy from all the rain.
