Checking In

April 1, 2023 at 8:11 am by Claudia

Just a quick note to say we’re both feeling very sick. Don has had this longer than I have and he’s still not feeling well. I’m in the middle of it and it’s god-awful. I coached from home via zoom yesterday and I’ll do it again today.

We’re pretty convinced it’s the flu. I had chills the other night and maybe a low-grade fever. Don had the same about a week ago. We did have flu shots this year, but that doesn’t always protect you from other strains.

Anyway, we’re wiped out and I have to try and coach in the midst of blowing my nose and coughing. It was my suggestion to coach via zoom as this show has a very short rehearsal period and I wanted the actors to have some one-on-one time with me before they start the second week of rehearsals.

Also, keep in mind that this kind of thing always hits me harder because with my allergy/sinus problems, I’m already quite congested.

So, I’ll be back when I’m back.

Stay safe.

Happy Saturday.

    drats again!

glad zoom was available so you could work from home. though am sure you did great, am also sure it wasn’t easy … being sick is rough!

praying that you and don feel better soon, that you have all the supplies you need, plus treats.

breezy 79 (!) degrees here yesterday. this morning we’ve had a bit of snow … enough to cover things, but it won’t last as the sun just came out from under the clouds. and the university of iowa women’s basketball team won last night and play in the national championship tomorrow! again, i’m not into basketball at all, but do like the good (for iowa) news.

happy, healthy and safe saturday to everyone!

I watched the ladies play last night…they are terrific. Even though I am a devoted Badger fan, I was cheering them on! We are going to watch tomorrow night as well….Go Hawks! ;)

you’re right, donnamae … they are terrific. even though one player gets most of the attention, they obviously are working well as a team and are led by a coach who has a lot of experience.

lived in minneapolis for five years and i know there was a huge rivalry there with um badgers (probably still is and probably always will be. loved times spent in wisconsin, too). i know it’s not possible, but i just want everyone to win!

hope you that you and your loves don’t get any more snow until next winter (unless you want or need more snow) and enjoy a beautiful spring!

Oh Claudia, how awful. I DOES sound like the flu. You two hang in there, lay as low as you can — and I know you are. Sending all good wishes for a quick and full recovery.

Having the flu is the worst. Especially when you’re busy. I was hospitalized for a week over Christmas. Lots of meds, and rest, fluids. I also had a flu shot. Recurring takes a long time. My unsolicited advice is not to rush it.

It could be the flu even though you had flu shots. My son’s family all had influenza A and it was nasty. I’m so sorry you have to work while feeling so sick but Zoom was a good idea.
Rest as much as you can and hope you both feel better very soon.
    Take care

Oh Claudia….I hope you two feel better really soon. What a time to get the flu. Thankfully there is such a thing as zoom, so at least you can continue to coach. Take care! ;)

Feel better. I got something a couple months ago and it took forever to get better. I kind of think because I hadn’t had any issues for so long that my system was blindsided. Good you can zoom.

So sorry to hear you both are sick!

Try to drink a lot of fluids. There’s a diff between a cold and RSV; I was just coincidentally reading about it. “Symptoms of RSV are usually common cold symptoms: cough, runny nose. The difference is the runny nose is going to be significantly mucusy, copious amounts of mucus. You can get some redness of the eyes, coughing, sore, scratchy throat.”

I hope you two are better soon; that you’re home and can stay warm and get some rest is so important.

I’m off to go pick up my husband at the hospital. He had to stay two nights after his abdominal/esophageal surgery on Thurs.

We need to get all of you well!

A friend of mine volunteered as an usher yesterday at a community-theater playhouse which was hosting a high-school group and every kid was required to be masked. I was surprised.

You were kind to take a moment to write to your readers and let us know what’s going on, even when you’re unwell, Claudia; thank you; otherwise, we’d have wonderment over it; now, all we can do is send you and Don our best healing wishes for a quick recovery. Take care!

How miserable for the two of you, Claudia. My daughter is struggling through a similar illness so I know how frustrated, tired, and debilitating you feel. Hoping the nasty bug clears your system sooner than later.

I’m so sorry to hear that you and Don are feeling so bad. Sending healing thoughts and prayers your way.

I hope your area is not in line for the storms to come through this evening from that terrible weather that produced a record amount of tornadoes yesterday in the middle of the country. In my area we had rain this morning and now have a break of sunny weather. The temperature is supposed to go up to 74°. Then this evening we are expecting scattered severe thunderstorms and strong wind gusts as a cold front pushes northeast.

Look after yourself and Don, and feel better soon. I’m just getting over my second bout of Covid and was sicker this time around, even with 4 shots.

Aww hope you both feel much better very soon! I’m surprised at your flu diagnosis since everyone I know who had this very nasty flu A literally could not get out of bed and had incredibly high fever for days. You must be made of iron to be able to sit up, let alone still coach! You know if you have been diagnosed within the first few days, I forget exactly how many, you can be prescribed Tamiflu which will shorten the duration- even the teenagers were knocked out for a week with this flu A right around Christmas and they were vaccinated too. I’m sure your doctor will recommend Tamiflu as well. So sorry to hear it’s still around! Wishing you both a speedy recovery.

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
