Checking in on Friday

March 4, 2022 at 9:33 am by Claudia

The good news: Don doesn’t have a break/fracture. He has no rotator cuff problems. We have been pretty sure from the beginning that this was true, but the pain is real, so Don decided to check in with his doctor. We’re relieved. Don is very  relieved. Now, he has to be patient and exercise his arm and shoulder. And he’s doing that.

The bad news: We have to order more heating oil when we hoped we had enough to get us through the winter. But it’s been a very, very cold winter here, so I’m not surprised. We’re ordering the minimum we can get away with because the price is so high right now.

The good news again: We have heat and we can find the funds to pay for the oil. Given what is happening in the world, we are blessed. We know it and we’re grateful.

All in all, yesterday was a very good day.

Madeleine made her preferences known yesterday – she wanted to wear this:

She clearly has her own sense of style. (She’s French, you know.)

And Zoe got to wear the glasses:

These specs seem to suit every one of the girls.

Still reading, puzzling, cleaning, and watching Stranger Things. But tonight will be Mrs. Maisel, as two new episodes drop today.

I have a couple of errands to run today. It’s really cold here today, by the way. The warmup should  start tomorrow. It can’t come soon enough.

Stay safe.

Happy Friday.

I’m so happy to hear that Don doesn’t have any serious injuries! Oh, but the pain is real! I hope he starts feeling better very, very soon. I just love to see all the girls in the glasses and their wonderful outfits. With everything going on in the world it is a place where my lighter nature can smile.

That’s what I hope. Maybe these photos will bring a smile to your faces. Just a wee bit of a break.

      Thank you, Tana.

I love your dolls beatle t shirt! Where did you ever find it?

      On Etsy.

It was one of the first things I bought, even before I had my first Blythe.

      Stay safe, Gloria.

So glad to hear that Don is not seriously hurt. But having said that, pain is pain. Where did you find that little Beatles t shirt? I nearly choked on my coffee when I saw Madeleine in it! She looks so cute! Happy Friday!

I’ve had it since before I got Sophie. I have an earlier photo that I put on the blog in October, with Sophie wearing it. I got it on Etsy. Isn’t it great?

      Stay safe, April.

Good news. Have Don look up Church Studio in Tulsa. I think he would enjoy the info.

Yes I know. I’ve written about it here and on social media. It’s devastating and heartbreaking. Putin needs to be stopped. We watch the news accounts and mourn the loss of homes and lives. All of this because of a man who wants one thing only:power.

      Stay safe, Regula.

Good news that Don didn’t break anything. Don’t let him slack on the exercises. Importent so he doesn’t develop a frozen shoulder.

I just turned on nees and saw a report about children with cancer in Ukraine. I don’t understand how Putin can be so heartless.

    Take care

He won’t. He has to be able to play his guitar and carry his big camera. He’s going to start shooting pictures of people this summer.

My heart seems to be continually breaking. One atrocity after another.

      Stay safe, Marilyn.

    Prayers for sweet Don
There comes a time when snow and ice has to become a duty of hired younger help. The cost of medical bills can outweigh the cost of the help
Perhaps you can find someone to do this who really needs the money. It took me awhile when i had my home to accept this.

He wasn’t doing any of that. He just fell when he was standing by his car.

      Stay safe, Brenda.

He did. But he wasn’t doing any shoveling or snow blowing. No one you hire can magically be there in the morning to get rid of ice that appeared overnight. We don’t have a garage.

      Brenda I agree with you
We dealt with the snow for a long time until age crept up, and back and shoulder injuries.
      It is not worth it

So relieved to read Don has no fractures or rotator cuff issues!
Patience, exercises, and a bit of the anti-inflammatory medication from time to time and all will be well for Don.
    Stay safe, stay well.

His spirits are better, just knowing that there’s no break or surgery required.

    HI,
Very good news about Don not having a break or dislocated shoulder. It must be painful. I hope he is able to sleep at night and get adequate rest.

He is sleeping. Some nights he’s a bit more restless. Last night he woke me up. He was quietly moaning, so I think his shoulder was hurting.

      Stay safe, Kaye.

So glad to hear about Don’s near-miss being something he can contend with; he’ll be feeling better sooner than later! I do hope your weather improves and that both of you have a good weekend. Try to limit your news-watching; not hide in the sand, but just watch your exposure to continuing, depressing stuff (I’ve been on overload). Back to Don, it’s always better to stop the wondering with hard facts, so I know with myself I’m always glad, although I sometimes dread it, to just have the doctor decide!

We do limit our news watching. We only watch the NBC evening news. No 24 hour cable channels.

      Thanks, Vicki.

      Stay safe.

X-rays show bones, not muscles or tendon tears, so if Don does not start to see improvement in a few days with the anti-inflammatory, he may need more in-depth diagnostics like an MRI. I mention this because I had a partially torn tendon of the rotator cuff, diagnosed by MRI after x-rays showed no abnormalities. It was extremely painful and finding a comfortable position to sleep was very difficult. Not all rotator cuff injuries require surgery. Mine didn’t, thankfully, but it took a loooooong time to heal and regain full range of motion of the shoulder. I found acupuncture helped considerably but it was the “cupping” treatment my acupuncture doctor did that finally allowed me to be pain free after many months. It was like a miracle!

Those Blythe girls sure are a fashionable bunch! Everything they’ve worn has been too darn cute The workmanship just amazes me but especially the detail in all of those tiny shoes!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
