Clothes for the Girls

January 5, 2022 at 10:01 am by Claudia

Last night’s sunset. We’ve had only one sunny day – yesterday – in a sea of gray skies and rain or sleet. As I write this, it’s sleeting again.

So we’re going to stay in our cozy cottage today. Thankfully, we don’t have to be anywhere.

I’m working on the Jane Austen puzzle which was designed by the same people who did the Shakespeare puzzle. So there are lot of tiny buildings and a river and little people and it’s very complex. Good! A challenge!

It’s been difficult for me to concentrate on reading. I’m not sure why. So I’m going to force myself to sit down and read a chunk of Cloud Cuckoo Land  by Anthony Doerr this afternoon. (I seem to be easily distracted these days.)

I try to limit my posts about the girls just in case you’re completely uninterested in them. I didn’t post anything about them yesterday. So, my friends, today you will see both Olivia and Maeve in some new clothing that arrived during the past few weeks.

Olivia in a an outfit from LenaLittleDress (IG handle.) I have ordered several outfits from her over the past 4 months. Her work is impeccable. She, like so many other creators, is from Russia. Her packages are always beautifully presented. In her case, the outfits are posted on Instagram and you must be lucky enough to be on IG at the moment, because they go very quickly. This came in a package that included a dress and when it arrived I didn’t remember ordering it! I had to check my Direct Messages to confirm that it wasn’t sent to me in error. Oh boy.

Maeve in a dress from RoseandCacao. This creator is from Portugal but lives in London. She makes charming and whimsical dresses. I have several or, rather, the girls  have several. When new outfits are available, she will post them at a certain time. I managed to order this dress while down on the subway platform waiting for a train. How I pulled it off, I’m not sure! But there are limited numbers of any new outfit and I wanted this one.

Meanwhile, I ordered two thermal t-shirts from Old Navy to add to the 6 or 7 I already have. Could I be any more boring? The thing is, when I taught for a living, I was younger and was quite the clothes horse. But now that we live the lifestyle we do, I don’t much care about clothes. I buy new jeans and t-shirts, the occasional sweater, or thermal top, and COMFORTABLE shoes. That’s it.

When I was younger, I loved to go clothes shopping. Now? I detest it.

But the girls are another situation entirely!

Stay safe.

Happy Wednesday.

I really enjoy seeing the girls and their outfits. It’s a fun hobby for you. I say post as much as you want. I too used to enjoy clothes shopping but now I dislike it. T-shirts and joggers for me. And yes to comfortable shoes as well!

I think it’s great fun to be able to shop for the charming clothes for the girls. I love seeing their outfits..
Then you also have the additional fun of receiving them, and dressing them.
Not boring at all to me😊.
I’m glad you are safely home.

It’s so fun to let our inner child play. I love seeing the girls and their outfits. I’m a bit very curious, do they have a special place to hang their clothes and store their shoes? I use a vintage suitcase for my grandkids doll clothing for the dolls that live here. What’s your solution? Happy NewYear to you and Don.

I don’t hang anything but I have a large suitcase that I store things in. I still need to find a better method, but for now, the suitcase really helps.

        Stay safe, Robin.

I love seeing your girls and their new clothes. Years ago, I made clothes for my granddaughters’ American girl dolls. It is not easy. I really admire the work these dressmakers have done on the clothes I’ve seen.

    sweet outfits for the girls.

please share as you want. all good from my point of view.

while i care very much about being clean, meeting the dress code at work and especially showing respect for God, my family and myself, i don’t otherwise care what i am wearing. always been more of a mixer than matched and care about comfort.

glad you can stay home and stay safe. sleet and ice are dangerous things!

very windy and cold here. wearing extra on top and two pairs of socks today (i primarily work less than ten feet from a double front door).

break’s over. stay warm and well, everyone!

I’ve always hated to go shopping for clothes. So usually I go to thrift stores, browse through the racks and decide from the looks of the clothes whether they are a fit. It works perfect this way.

I would like to have clothes like your girls. It’s totally my style. :-)

    All the best!

I’m amazed at the cleverness and beautiful rendition of the girls’ outfits. And you pair them together so well!

I’ve never liked clothes shopping and now, since I am retired, I rarely have to and Land’s End suits me well. God forbid I ever have to get out of denim and fleece! (except in summer.) I’m having trouble reading too, but I think it’s either my eyes or my glasses. I’m reading an interesting Japanese mystery but it’s hard to keep at it for as long as I’d like.

    Happy week! Stay cozy!

I was a shopper and clothes horse when I was young. I would spend my salary on new outfits rather than food. Even as a young married I made the effort. Well now that I am “old” and my hair is silver….I want to look elegant and effortlessly put together. Unfortunately I plumped up and now look frumpy most of the time in jeans and fleece tops and clogs. Every now and then I try to pull off the Kate Hepburn classic white shirt and slacks and twist my hair on top. Gave most of my clothes away to Charities this past two years….dress mainly like a Maryknoll nun now. So I need comfort and solid colors but would love to be young again and dress in the outfits your little ladies are sporting. Keep sending those pictures….love the eyes and pouty lips.

I enjoy seeing the girls and their clothes. I used to do a lot of sewing for myself and others, and I’m amazed by the detail in these little outfits. Like you, my wardrobe is pretty casual these days. How nice that you have a creative outlet for clothing:)

I love seeing your girls. I’m happy with anything you post and appreciate your work on this blog. I’m with you regarding your town. The only new business to come in to our town when a small family owned business leaves is a chain pharmacy or a Dunkin’ Donuts. We’ve already got one on every corner. Ah well. I was thinking of you the other day. I just found a show I’m in love with on discovery called The Repair Shop. It’s not new so I’m late to the party but thought I’d pass it along in case. It’s British and basically is a team of brilliant craftsman who repair the most amazing items. I saw a dollhouse brought in by a woman whose grandfather made it for her for Christmas when she was a child. Such fun. I don’t watch much on tv but this I’ll record religiously.

It would be fun to buy those beautiful outfits for the dolls. I don’t love clothes like I used to. Probably because the styles don’t fit my body.

I think buying clothes for my dolls from artisans (many of whom are in Russia – as you have discovered) fills that part of me that used to buy fancy clothing for myself when I went out to work. I also have loved to create clothing for them and will be learning how to make wigs!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
