Late afternoon light on the cottage.
The lights are up on the porch railings. It looks so pretty and sparkly out there!
We’re watching old movies every night and, boy, that’s a comfort! We love doing that anyway, but right now, it’s a necessity. Don is writing some new songs and playing his guitar. I’m doing some chores outside, thought it’s awfully cold out there right now, so I do a little bit each day. But it’s pretty bleak looking with frigid temperatures and gray skies. Sigh.
I assume we’ll go looking for our tree at the end of this week or the beginning of next week. We don’t go on the weekends because all the weekenders tend to mob our local nursery.
Can you tell I don’t have a lot to share at the moment? It feels like we’re deep into winter and yet it hasn’t even officially started yet! This does not bode well, does it?
Another day, another crown:
Yesterday was Ella’s day to be Queen.
I’m back to reading John Sandford and I’m not even trying to read his books in order because there are so many of them! There are several of his books on the shelf in my library, so I’ve started with them. Then, once I read them, I’ll start reserving his books through the library system. Louise Penny sits to my right, waiting to be read, but I think that will be on tap in January or February, right when I need the escape.
Stay safe.
Happy Wednesday.

I’ve put very few decorations up so far – just one or two each day. I’ll get to it soon. I think I have finished my Christmas shopping and I’m finishing up a small quilt I am making for my youngest grandson’s 1st birthday in December. I’m enjoying doing some hand quilting on it. It is calming.
Stay warm and stay safe.

Thank you so much, Ellen.

I agree, Claudia. Old movies are SO comforting. When I was young I hated having to go to bed (always felt like I was missing something), and my mom occasionally let me stay up late with her to watch old movies. We’d sit in the same chair and it was so warm and cozy. I knew who many of the old movie stars were at a young age and have never tired of watching those films.
Also, I love Ella looks adorable in the crown and she is Cute AF!
Claudia says
I grew up with a mom that loved old movies and she’d fill me in on all the actors, especially the wonderful character actors. That’s a great memory.
Stay safe.

feels great to cross things off your to-do list, doesn’t it? that’s one of my favorite feelings.
good to hear you follow all that work with something fun like reading, and watching movies with don.
ella makes me smile. she reminds me of my maternal grandmother. :) nice sky and your beautiful home!
not much news here, either. though the streets are clear, there is still snow on the ground; it’s pretty. and it will be gone by the weekend when it gets warmer. no decorating yet, but i’m pleased about having half the gifts purchased (hopefully the cross-stitch gifts will be ready for Christmas next year). will hopefully get several more today. slowly reading “little women”, waiting for some cross-stitch fabric to arrive and mentally rearranging stuff at my apartment (i’m not there) with the hope of making it more to my liking. thinking about the stories of the children’s books i keep working on. and spending most of my time with family members.
happy wednesday and thursday. stay safe.

It sounds lovely, Kathy.

It’s really cold here in NC. Lows at night have been in the 20’s. One of my favorite movies this time of year is The Bishop’s Wife. I enjoy watching it. I am off to my little local library this morning. Thanks for sharing the pictures of the girls in their crowns. They are so cute. Try to stay warm!
Claudia says
We always watch The Bishop’s Wife – every Christmas!
Stay safe, Carol.

We always get our tree the day after Thanksgiving because Lowes has them for 25% off. We found a really pretty one. Hope you find a lovely tree when you venture out. I love the picture of the dark clouds behind your house.
Claudia says
If we got ours that early, it wouldn’t last through the New Year.
But that’s a great discount, Leslie!
Stay safe.

It is always wonderful to hear from you. Knowing you and Don are out there are a comfort during theses bleak times and I do not mean the weather. Your words mean a lot.
Take Care,
Kaye
Claudia says
Oh, thank you so much for your kind words, Kaye.
Stay safe.

I bet your cottage looks cozy and bright when it’s lit up! I love watching old movies, especially the holiday classics. I have so many favorites. We have been having really cold mornings, but I really can’t complain when I see all the areas in the Midwest and Northeast…that lake effect snow is dangerous. Stay warm.
Claudia says
We’re getting some snow tonight, less than an inch. The first snowfall is always fun! After that, not so much.
Stay safe, Barrie.

I’m so happy to hear you are enjoying John Sandford – I have turned a couple friends on to his books, one of whom is a person who buys books (I try to stick to library books) so I get each new Sandford almost right away instead of being in the line of 500 reservers at the library. Such a nice reward! And yes, it’s cold and grey here. I didn’t get my cannas and elephant ears dug up before the cold snap so I am a bit worried about them but evidently not worried enough to go out in the cold and grub around for them. There may be regrets later!
So fun to see the girls in their crown!

Thanks so much, Ceci.

I’m asking for Louise for Christmas. And she’ll probably sit a bit in anticipation after (assuming Santa is nice!) The house looks pretty. I’m enjoying the movies too. I just recorded one of my favorites, “The Bishop’s Wife,” so maybe this weekend. Tonight we’re decorating the tree. Have a lovely evening!
Claudia says
We’ll watch that one in the week leading up to Christmas. It’s a wonderful movie.
Stay safe, Jeanie.

Yup, it’s cold and gray and snowing again in Michigan. We have several inches on the ground and more coming tonight and tomorrow. Then, I hope it all melts over the weekend when it’s supposed to warm up.
Love the crown for your girls…it’s perfect.
Late January will be a perfect time for a good book to be a distraction.
Take care
Claudia says
$5 well spent!
Stay safe, Marilyn.
