Oh my heavens, yesterday was a pain in the tush! We had torrential rain ALL day long, both here and in NYC. I left the house around 7:15 am and didn’t return until 9 pm. Walking anywhere in the city – and I had to walk 12 blocks to rehearsal – was treacherous. Puddles everywhere, umbrellas banging into each other, me constantly hiking my handbag and a tote bag with my script in it back onto my shoulder while juggling an umbrella. Then doing it all again at a fast clip as I made my way back to the bus station. The bus ride home was much longer than usual because of the rain.
As Don said, “Our routine is off!” And it was.
I’m happy to be home and I’m really tuckered out. I seem to go from peaceful daily living to, suddenly, a day packed full of exhausting activity, then back to normal.
Speaking of Don, I took this picture of him the other day:
Pretty dreamy. My crush continues.
And here’s a photo of my other guy:
Mr. Henry. I love that boy.
We’re are suddenly panicked because we’re leaving for our trip in a week and a half, and we have a lot to do before then! How can it be only a week and a half away? So we spent the morning with this little book:
It’s pocket-sized and will definitely be accompanying us on our trip.
We’re supposed to get even more rain and thunderstorms this afternoon. I am so over rain. It seems like we’ve had nothing but rain this summer and fall. One of my readers mentioned that she had read that morning glories don’t like too much water. I think that’s why they haven’t bloomed. That’s the one difference this year from every other year. Way too much rain. Dang it!
Anyway, have to go pay some bills and practice French and start making lists of everything I have to get done, including buying some good walking shoes and a fall jacket/coat.
Happy Wednesday.

Planning a trip is wonderful, isn’t it- glorious weather at the moment in the UK, which I hope continues for your trip
Seven weeks today we fly to Sydney as a start of retirement present to each other
Have a wonderful trip

Oh, how wonderful! You’ll have a great time!

With going to the vet hospital twice a day, I’m glad there is no rain here. It’s only a 20-minute drive, but I hate how drivers forget how to drive in the rain, and many ignore the law that when the wipers are on, the headlights must be also. I hope you have glorious weather in Paris, and in England, too. We were there during the very rare heatwave and only experienced a drizzle once in two and a half weeks. Otherwise it was very HOT. I’m sure you won’t experience those sorts of temperatures. I hope shoe and coat buying isn’t as traumatic as purchasing jeans….
Claudia says
I don’t think it will be that hot in mid-October!
Chris K in Wisconsin says
I agree with Wendy ~ shoe and jacket shopping aren’t as painful as jean shopping. But, just HAVING to go shopping is kind of a pain, isn’t it?? It seems when I need to find something ASAP is when I have my troubles. Good luck and I hope it is quick and easy. My recommendation is to not go on the weekend with strollers and crying babies. Weekdays are so much easier!
We are enjoying a pretty fall day. Our temps are only supposed to reach the low 60’s! And just a week ago it was so hot and humid. I haven’t noticed many leaves changing colors, but have seen some on the ground. Soon they will be falling quickly. So many lists for you to make! I hope you have a lovely Wednesday!
Claudia says
I hate shopping for clothes or shoes. So it IS a pain!
It’s in the seventies and humid and we have more storms coming. Very strange weather out here in the East.

A really busy day in NYC in the rain is a pain in the tush for sure. I remember how I made lists and shopped and each thing I ticked off my list made me more and more excited for my trip! Love the photo of Don, yep he’s a keeper! When I was in Paris it rained several days but it was still gorgeous in the rain. I’m so excited for you both! Hugs!
Claudia says
I’m so jealous of his hair! He has the best head of hair!
Thanks, Linda!

Dig in your closet for old, comfortable shoes rather than trying to break in a new pair of shoes in a week and a half. You don’t want blistered feet when you want to walk miles and miles.
Claudia says
If I had them, I would. I don’t have walking shoes that fit me. So I have to buy new shoes. I’ll buy them with time to break them in.
Vicki says
The opposites are so…mystifying? I haven’t seen rain for almost nine months, not one drop…and when we did have it, it was brief. In SoCalif, we are again parched; and I-me-Vicki am over THAT!!
Claudia says
There are opposites going on everywhere. Climate change is real – I hope we can save our planet.

Sounds like you did not have a good day in the city yesterday…at least not for weather!…That is a very nice picture of Don!…wish I had a guy that could play guitar and sing to me!…how sweet that must be Claudia!!…I have to tell you about what happened just about an hour ago I looked out the window to the backyard garden…there is a lot of goldenrod back there and I saw 3 beautiful monarch butterflies playing among it…they would chase each other a while and then rest on the bright yellow flowers so I could get a good look at them…I was so excited to see 3 of them together as I usually only see one at a time and not very often!….Good luck shopping for comfy shoes…
Claudia says
How wonderful, Nancy! Lucky you!

I’m pretty damn good! (And I was doing it before Don!!!) Actually, he praises my work all the time. He’s a good guy.

Jacket and shoe shopping isn’t as frustrating as jean shopping as far as I’m concerned. The hardest is finding what you want when you want it and in the proper size!
We are tooling about Iowa…weather nice….much cooler for a few days. Can’t believe you will be leaving in only a week. Yikes! ;)
Claudia says
Have fun in Iowa!

We are from Wisconsin, just wanted to come get some pretzels that aren’t sold at home, and decided to see what else there was to see! Iowa is lovely…and everyone we’ve met has been lovely! We are returning home today. The next time we come here….I will ask for suggestions! Thanks! ;)
kathy in iowa says
oh, i love rain! love it, love it! i gladly walk in it except when i have to go somewhere and look pulled together (like work) … but i am sorry the rain was a hassle for you. glad you are back home with don.
and that you saw henry. how often does he come out?
best wishes on the jacket- and shoe-shopping. especially the shoes … hope you find a pair that is very comfy right away – and will still take time to break them in. if you are talking about tennies kind of shoes, i suggest trying new balance. i’ve worn them daily for walking/running and my only complaint is that it never takes long for the mesh on top (that helps keep feet cooler) to tear. there are, obviously, shoes meant just for walking that don’t have mesh or scream “tourist” (ha). anyway, good luck with that and the french lessons!
goodnight.
kathy in iowa
Claudia says
Thanks, Kathy. You wouldn’t like walking in the rain in NYC. Trust me.

Both of your guys are real dreamboats! :) Seriously, Don has the best head of hair ever! Such a great photo of him.
I hope you and Don have a lovely trip.
Take care,
