A Couple of Quick Projects

August 4, 2011 at 12:03 am by Claudia

To keep myself from going insane after oh-so-many days here at MHC (we only have one car at the moment and Don has been using it for work) I finally got around to a project that had been on my mind for a long while. A simple one, really, but one that for some reason I just kept ignoring.

The lamp shade. We keep this lamp on our kitchen counter. Please ignore my tiled countertop with the awful dark tinted grout – someday it will be replaced. Anyway, the lamp used to be closer to the stove, hence the various stains on the white lampshade. I’m too cheap to replace the lampshade, so yesterday I went through my fabric and found a cute pattern that I thought would do nicely.

Scissors, a glue stick and voila!

I can’t believe the transformation. And I can’t believe I didn’t get around to this sooner!

In the studio cabinet, I added a piece of lace to the edge of one of the shelves:

I want to find another piece similar in design and width for the top shelf. How nice that I left the glue stick right in the middle of this shot.  I’m always doing things like that, though the culprit is usually my lens cap.

I’ve been reading like a madwoman but there are times I just need to create. Even if it’s something fairly simple – it makes me happy.

My favorite kind of project at times — short & sweet. But with big results! I am also admiring the jar of cookies back there… :-)

Your lampshade totally transforms the lamp- gorgeous fabric! I love the lace trim on the shelves also. Isn’t it wonderful when you can complete a project with materials you already have on hand?!

I’ve been doing some crafty goodness over here too, sweet giveaway winner. I haven’t forgotten you, I promise!

    Claudia,
Great job. You have inspired me. Today I am going to sew and not leave the cabin. The screen door is going to be replaced or I would stay in my pajamas! I will get the crockpot going shortly and and fire up the sewing machine. I think it will be a great day. Glad you are feeling better!

Perfect fabric for a kitchen lamp. And what a great transformation for no money! Glad you found a project to keep you busy… I do my best work on things when the house is quiet and I am all alone.

Claudia I love the fabric on your lampshade. I did the same for one of my lamps and it’s amazing what a change that addition makes. It’s always the little touches that make big statements – case in point, your lace-edged shelf! Ann

Little touches make such a difference sometimes, don’t they?

I love to cover lampshades with fabric. It’s usually a pretty quick and inexpensive project, but with the nicest results, and I like how it makes something look original, rather than cookie cutter.

I like your lace on the shelf too.

    Have a happy day, Claudia.

Love your “new” lamp. wow. Isn’t it funny how many times we pass something we need to take care of, but then never think of it until some odd time.A little of this and a little of that we get things done. Smiles, Susie

I love your chosen toile fabric, Claudia. It goes so well with the lamp base. As for the lace-edged shelf, I have a penchant for such things, so I love that also. Your shelves are so interesting to look at. I love all the pretty pastel colours!

It is good to know you are on the mend. Needing to create and actually doing it is a great sign of returning health and strength. Your lampshade is beautiful. I love lace on the edge of a shelf. I had shelves high up in my daughter’s bedroom years ago and I put beautiful lace along the edges which really made all the difference. Sunshine Summer Smiles…
