Do I start with the good news or the bad news?
Bad news: we have a nor’easter headed this way tomorrow, bringing heavy wet snow (because it’s been relatively warm) and anything from 6 – 12 inches is possible. We still have snow on the ground from the last big storm. I’d say about 4-5 inches.
I’ve had it with this winter. Truly had it.
There was some hope that we might not get much snow, but as we get closer and closer to Sunday, it looks as if our luck has run out.
Okay.
The good news? I’ve started to crochet Don’s afghan/throw. I decided to go with a basic double crochet stitch because it’s easier on my hands. Doing a ripple stitch involves too much twisting and turning of my right hand. And Don doesn’t care whether there’s a swirly pattern or not. I started working on it yesterday.

I’m really enjoying it. I’m careful to take breaks in order to protect my hand. I looked back in my Etsy sales information and I think the last time I crocheted consistently was in 2013. I did pick it up a few years ago to make a few berets for the Blythes. But that was just a blip. I had to check some things in my handy little book on crochet. But now, I’m back on track.
Once I get going, it’s so relaxing. I feel grounded. And heaven knows, I need that right now.
I’ll update the crochet status when I add some more colors.
Stay safe.
Happy Saturday.

I am sorry to hear you are getting more of the white stuff…guess Mother Nature is not done yet, and has other plans.
I love that turquoisey (probably not a word) blue with the olive green….very chic. Guess the best thing for you is to just take your time, and take lots of breaks…gotta take care of your hands.
Enjoy your weekend! ;)
A lot more of the white stuff, apparently. But this time it will be heavy and wet.
These are colors Don picked out. He did a good job!
Stay safe, Donnamae.
Those colors are so lovely. It’s going to be so beautiful.
Stay safe, Claudia.
Thank you so much, Ellen.

i don’t like your bad news that you’re getting more snow. stay warm and safe!
i do like your good news today. you have made a great start to don’s afghan! glad it’s going well for your wrist.
walked in the mall this morning due to ice underneath the snow, then just enough outside in order to feed earl and the birds. i like walking outside much better!!! then carefully shoveled the deck after measuring … we actually received eight inches of snow thursday night into yesterday morning (not six as announced on tv). may that take some of the wallop out of your forecast.
happy crocheting and happy weekend!
kathy
That’s a lot of snow, but I know you said you needed it.
Thanks so much, Kathy.

Hi Claudia! I am feeling a bit over-it as well. We got about five inches of wet stuff yesterday and last night. The side-walks in my neighborhood had just begun to be mostly free of ice from the last storms weeks ago, and this was a slippery snow. The plow that clears my driveway just compacted a lot of it into a really slick surface. I skipped my morning walk as a result. And now we are on the alert for the big Nor’easter blowing up the coast…. I believe this is the snowiest winter we have had since I moved here 18 years ago! it is still snowing lightly as I write this! Oh well. We are creeping closer to spring, and the days are noticeably longer. The afghan will be so beautiful when done, and your sweet girls (yesterday’s pic) almost look like they want one too!
Stay warm!
We got about an inch or so yesterday. That would have been enough for me. But now, the Nor’easter is headed our way. You’re closer to the coast than we are. Please take care!
Stay safe, Betsy.
Sorry about the Nor’easter but hurray for the crocheting. I don’t remember if you mentioned what the yarn is, but it’s lovely.
It’s Lion Brand acrylic in the Heartland series. I never use wool or cotton for a throw or afghan. It would be way too expensive to make. This is a newer yarn for them, I believe and it’s really lovely.
Thanks, Wendy.
Stay safe.
I really love the afghan — the colors are perfect and I like the density of the pattern. i don’t crochet so seeing this is really interesting.
I think we may be due for the snow too — certainly the cold.
We’re getting a real walloper of a storm. Blizzard nearer to the coast.
Thanks so much, Jeanie.
Stay safe.
I love the colors, they are beautiful together!
Sorry, about the storm. We had a big snow last week. I had about 20 inches at my house. It was needed but..I want spring.
Take Care,
Kaye
Needed but, bring on Spring! Right?
Thanks, Kaye.
Stay safe.
Love your afghan colours. I used to work in the buying office of the now defunct Hudson Bay Company, in the notions department. We used to have a sale called Bay Day and people would line up in anticipation of great buys. The notions department included yarn. On the sales day it was all hands on deck in the store even office personal. I was in charge of helping people choose their colours for their knitting projects, many of them afghans. It was quite fun, actually. We sold a lot of yarn! Sadly, those days are long gone. Enjoy your crocheting. Hope the storm isn’t as bad as predicted. Hugs, Elaine
I well remember J. L. Hudson, our downtown anchor department store. They sold fabrics and yarn and records and everything under the sun. There is no longer a Hudson’s anywhere. Breaks my heart.
Thanks so much, Elaine.
Stay safe.
Yes, I worked there for 21 years in various departments. The last one in HR developing computer based training programs. That was almost 30 years ago so early computer use. One fun note is that I was able to buy a cute winter hat in the traditional HBC stripes for Jessie (my Blythe doll). So cute! Hugs, Elaine
That’s neat!

dear Claudia/Don — really like the colors for the throw for Don — glad you can work on it a little at a time. yesterdays pics of the girls is so precious — they look like sisters!! sorry re your next snow ordeal — I, also, have had enough for this winter BUT they are saying some more (1-3) for this evening/Sun a.m. sure hope you all don’t get “buried” with those storms — forecasts (for you) don’t sound very pretty, especially on top of what you already have. please be very careful (both of you) b/c wx people are calling this “heart attack” snow b/c it will be heavy/wet to move. sort of reminds me of 1978 here when we got 2-3 inches every day for a week with very cold temps, then on day 9 we got 6-8 inches — none of it melted until the middle of Mar — NOT a good memory for me!!! stay safe, healthy
We will be buried – now they’re saying it could 16+ inches.
Thanks, Linda.
Stay safe.
Hi Claudia! I also really like the yarn colors for Don’s afghan. That’s going to be nice. I too, really miss our Bay. When it left I felt like crying. I bought all my undies, swimsuits, boots and shoes and so much more there. A lot of my dresses were from the Bay. At the end I bought a ladder (one I can handle), my craft table, couple of chairs, clothes hanger thing and clothes for myself, Mike and Dad. It was sad, really sad.
Many years ago my bedroom was the coldest room in the rooms upstairs. My Oma gave me her Hudson’s Bay blanket, which was already old. Apparently the single size blankets were more rare, and I’m going to look into the value of my blanket. It’s in perfect condition. Oma used to pinch my cheek and say in Dutch that I’m far too skinny, I’d better eat more. Mind you, she was skinny too.
Wow, we’ve had virtually no snow to speak of this winter. If this continues, we’re in big trouble.
Thanks so much, Irene.
Stay safe.
Your afghan is lovely.
Here in NW CT, the snow is about 14 ” and a little windy. It’s still coming down. My husband plowed and came in about an hour ago. It looks like we’ve got another 3-4 inches of snow on the driveway….Glad we have heat!
Yes, so glad we didn’t lose power, Betsy.
Stay safe.
