scout&bunny

Imagine her outrage.

I mean, the sheer temerity of that little bunny rabbit!

Look at that creature, thinking it is okay to hang out on Scout’s property.

You can see the stunned look on Scout’s face.

Okay. Now it’s time to get a closer look at this….this…this…thing.

scout&bunny2

He’s still not getting the point.

Scram!

And on and on it went, moving back and forth from one position to the next, each time more and more incredulous that this bunny did not seem to be one bit afraid of her.

Nope. The bunny just stayed in place. I would have said that the bunny froze in place, but he was chomping on food the entire time, so fear didn’t seem to be an issue.

Don and I watched this through the window of the kitchen door. Laughing.

Usually the bunnies around here freeze and, if necessary, hightail it out of there. This one has been hanging around the funky patio area for quite a while and seems completely at ease with us coming in and out of the house and not at all perturbed by Scout’s barks.

I caught him eating some of the crown vetch that has started to grow outside of the big garden bed:

bunny-dining

Yep. That’s crown vetch hanging out of his mouth.

He’s a little slip of a thing but he’s clearly not lacking in self-confidence.

Moving on to the birdbath, it has been a hub of activity. The neighborhood pool has opened for the season. The birds even take turns in the bath; one bathing, the other perched on the rim of the barrel planter, patiently waiting its turn.

A catbird ready to take a dip.

catbird5

In the pool.

catbird6

And….there we go! That feels good!

I swear, I could sit in some inconspicuous place with camera in hand, and watch these beauties frolic all day long.

How can I not smile when such adorableness is happening?

I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Ours was quiet, nicely so. Some weeding, some gardening, some walking, some mowing, some reading, some television watching, some guitar playing – along with some cleaning and laundry and pizza.

Question of the day: Quite often, when I leave a comment on a Blogger blog, I receive one of the dreaded Mail Delivery Subsystem emails and it says something like, ‘Delivery to the following participant failed permanently’ followed by the blogger’s email address and then some sort of explanation, i.e., ‘failed DMARC evaluation’ or ‘messages on behalf of (fill in email provider’s name) could not be delivered due to domain owner policy restrictions’ or ‘message not accepted for policy reasons.’

Yet the comment always goes through and is published.

This doesn’t happen on WordPress or Typepad. Just Blogger. And before you ask, yes, I’m signed into my Blogger account when I leave those comments.

What the ?????

It’s extremely annoying.

Any ideas on this one? The comments always go through, so I can’t figure it out.

instagram

By the way, though I joined Instagram about two years ago, I’ve done virtually nothing with it until the last few days. I take a lot of photos with my iPhone. However, since I’m not always going to blog about those photos, it occurred to me that Instagram provides an alternative way to share them. (Others grasped this little fact long ago.)

It’s fun. It’s also quick and easy, so it’s not a time-eater.

I have a widget on my sidebar which shows the most recent photos. These were taken yesterday.

If you’re on Instagram and you want to follow me, click here.

I wonder if Instagram will work when we’re hiking up on the mountain? Hmmmm.

Happy Tuesday (though it feels like a Monday.)

I love the bunny and his indifference to Scout is so cute! I am planning to buy a bird bath and put it where I can see it out my front window…Charlie will enjoy it also.

The birdbath is one of the best things I’ve added to the property, Linda. You’ll love it!

We had a quiet weekend too Claudia, not much work going on as I’m still mending from the pneumonia. I have been watching House of Cards and can’t believe how good it is. It really makes you wonder about what is really going on behind the scenes in D.C, I don’t think I’ll ever think about politicians the way I did before watching the show. Donavin, who is !9 and terrified of spiders was coming over here from his house the other night in the dark when a opossum snarled at him and scared the stuffings out of him. There is a big lake in the very back of our property so I’ve always wondered if we will see a gator in the yard some day. That hasn’t happened yet but a few turtles have paid us a visit over the years. Hope your animal friends continue to visit. Have a good day friend.

I guess bunnies like that are so used to having people around that they don’t flinch at much. I love watching the birds. Looks like your bird bath is the place to be. Not a clue about the comments. Blogger always has some sort of glitch that makes the rounds. Following you on Instagram now. Have a great week. Tammy

The first 25 years of my life were spent living in the country, and I NEVER got tired of watching the various animals that came by the yard and garden for a visit. One spring/summer we regularly watched a mommy skunk and her four little “skunklets”. We’d see them wrestling with each other, like kittens, and would tumble around and roll down a small hill. They were absolutely adorable to watch, but being so young they had yet to learn control … of their scent … which, of course was terrible!! LOL. Love seeing Scout and the bunny pictures :)

Hi Claudia– so much to talk about today!
I love watching the animals in my yard…they are little characters. We like to feed the squirrels nuts from our hand–yesterday at the zoo, I got a kick out of watching the people feed the squirrels (apparently, accustomed to the patrons) The people were the funniest thing– they acted surprised, almost as if, that was the first squirrel ever fed by human hands!
Scout now doubt would like to have a close up chat with the bunny in your yard– at her age and the comfort level of the bunny, I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if they made friends and nuzzled; though I wouldn’t chance it.
I’ve never had any comment issues on blogger, or elsewhere for that matter, like you discussed here. I, as you know, have all manner of problems with Google+ …but that’s a new one. Sorry, I’m no help on that one.
Funny you mentioned Instagram– I love it for all the reasons you mentioned. Doesn’t take long to post and it’s not a time sucker-upper! I’m your newest follower! By the way- I JUST started following you on Pinterest last week, too! I love your miniatures board (though that is probably not the title of it– but I can’t think of it right now.)
I’m glad you have that you’re ‘chatty’ on your side bar–because I think I always come here and right a book, when leaving a comment! :)
    have a great day– Pat

I wonder if Bunny came from someone’s home, and isn’t afraid of you because he has seen dogs, and humans before.

I get the occasional no response emails too, but I never thought to check to see if it published anyways…does it do it on my blog?

Yes I found you on Instagram! Hellllllloooo Claudia.

No, it’s one of the wild bunnies that are on our property every year. Same markings. We always have several living here.

I don’t think I’ve ever got one of those emails from your blog, Jen. It’s the oddest thing – some blogs, yes…some blogs, no. I can’t figure it out.

      Following you, too!

Loving the Scoutie-Bunny face-off. Too funny! II too could sit in an observation blind with a camera all day – how much fun would that be? Might see something that’s never been captured on film before. PS – computers are, as the kids say these days, whacked! Many times when I leave a comment or review, I get two messages. The first, your comment cannot be published. The second – your comment HAS been published. Completely weird. Obviously a Quality Control problem. The weirdest thing is that it crosses so many sites, platforms etc. Not confined to one or two places.

Haha. Such cute shots of Scout checking out the bunny! When Bridger (GSD) was still with us, he loved chasing bunnies. He’d see one from the patio door and start whining. I always let him chase them, but I’d make him wait while I gave the door a couple quick little slams to give the bunnies a head start and then let him go :-) They are certainly pests to our garden, but I think I read too much Beatrix Potter when I was young. I love bunnies. :-)

Me too. They don’t get in my garden too often, only occasionally. I think it’s because there is so much grass and lots of weeds around the edges of the woods – plenty to eat!

You ALMOST persuaded me to join instagram! I’m worried I will not maintain it like so many other things. I feel like I have photos scattered everywhere and I am not enjoying Facebook. In fact I do not even log in anymore. ha!

I love the outdoor animal pics. That’s a bold bunny you have there. Poor scout, just tortured! I love these photos. Hmm. Instagram! Thank you for sharing!

Poor Scout! I have two hounds that would have made quick work of that bunny! Scout is much more refined and genteel. Lucky for Mr. Rabbit!

Followed you on instagram. Like you, I joined, but haven’t done much. It drives my kids crazy that I’m “hip” enough to be on instagram. I draw the line (so far) at twitter. I mean, why does everyone need to know my every instant thought? Isn’t my blog bad enough?

I love your photos of Scout watching the bunny! How cute! And yes, I get the email notifications about non-delivery, etc., but the comments always go through. That’s something fairly new that’s been happening. I would love to be able to Instagram. Both of my girls do. Sadly, I can’t even follow them because you apparently have to have a Smart phone to Instagram, and I do not have one. Ah, well… Thanks so much for all your thoughts and prayers for Mr. J!!

Welcome!

Welcome!

I live in a little cottage in the country with my husband. It's a sweet place, sheltered by old trees and surrounded by gardens. The inside is full of the things we love. I love to write, I love my camera, I love creating, I love gardening. My decorating style is eclectic; full of vintage and a bit of whimsy.

I've worked in the theater for more years than I can count. I'm currently a voice, speech, dialect and text coach freelancing on Broadway, off Broadway, and in regional theater.

Thanks for stopping by.
