Getting there. I spent most of yesterday working on the puzzle. The high winds continued all day long, so I was stuck inside. I’m really enjoying the challenge. I’m a big crossword puzzle fan and have been for years so I guess it makes sense. I love figuring out how things fit, whether it be puzzle pieces or letters in squares.
I even expanded my work area by bringing down a piece of masonite that was leftover from the kit for Don’s Studio so that I could assemble the individual book covers away from the actual puzzle, as they were cluttering things up.
I’ve already ordered my next puzzle, though it may not get here for a couple of weeks. I also have this same puzzle format but with The Hardy Boys covers, instead of Nancy Drew (thank you, Vicki!) But I think I’ll hold off on that one.
I could become addicted to them. I’m teetering on the precipice as I write this.
This morning I woke up at 4 am, thanks to Don’s snores. I tried to go back to sleep, but it didn’t work, so I got up at 4:30 and made some coffee. Bad Don. (He apologized profusely.)
It’s still cold here and I’m over it. It was 30 degrees when I got up. Hello? It’s almost the end of April. So I think I’ll hold off on the trip to the nursery until the beginning of next week. Why buy a lot of plants if I can’t plant them? Better to keep them in the heated greenhouses until I’m ready.
What else? If you haven’t seen Anderson Cooper’s interview with the Mayor of Las Vegas…well, let’s just say she’s an ignoramus. And that’s being kind. I get that the economy is suffering. But when the economy becomes more important than human life, we’ve got a big problem. I’m talking to you, Governors who want to ‘get back to work and open beaches and parks and wrestling!’
Happy Birthday to my man, William Shakespeare. I never tire of your words. I learn something new every time I read them. You are the wisest of the wise.
That’s all I can come up with today. I’m tired and slightly edgy. Time to go to work on the puzzle.
Stay home. Stay safe.
Happy Thursday.

I would love that jigsaw puzzle! It is always a balancing trick because you are excited to finish it but then you want to make it last! Fun to see all of the Nancy Drew titles – perfect for you and your collection.
I have been restless also. I have a medical issue to deal with but, of course, with COVID – other medical issues are being postponed. I will have 2 phone appointments this week and hopefully, I can get an idea of what the timeline will be. But, I am working hard to stay positive and I am thankful that my surgery might wait until it is safer.
Stay safe, Claudia, and thanks so much for posting each day. I always look forward to it!
Sharon Avinger says
Are you aware that there is another Nancy Drew jigsaw puzzle that has the more vintage book covers? My husband and I have worked both and found both to be fun. Here is a link to the other puzzle. https://galaxypuzzles.com/products/vintage-nancy-drew-puzzle
Claudia says
Whoo hoo! Those are the editions I have in my collection – all illustrated by Russell H. Tandy. Thank you! I’m going to order one!
The whole time I was working on this one, I kept telling Don that I wish it was the original covers! Thanks, Sharon. Stay safe!
Melanie Riley says
That puzzle looks hard! You must have a lot of patience. I see a lot of people online doing jigsaw puzzles. I never did like them, even as a kid. They make me very anxious. I would have nowhere to do one here anyway. The only table we have is our tiny kitchen table – and that’s where we eat. Not to mention, our cats would have a field day jumping up there and knocking the pieces to the floor. ;-)
It’s still cold here, too. And cloudy and damp. Depressing day. Not motivated to do much of anything, though I know it’ll do me good. So I must at least get out and take my walk. And then maybe work in my art journal. Hope you can catch a nap today!
Claudia says
I do have patience with jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, and dollhouses. I like the process – that’s always the best part of it for me.
Another reason why I don’t have cats! (Just kidding – I’m allergic. That’s why I don’t have cats.)
Yes, isn’t it a depressing day weather-wise? Please, we need some warm weather STAT! Stay safe, Melanie.
Linda says
Oh my gosh I saw that interview
I have no words
He kept asking her if she would go into the casinos and she wouldn’t answer
I feel so bad for the workers I really do but this virus is dangerous
I thank God every day we can be home
I think it is still too cold to go to the nursery
I have been looking at climbing roses and think I will order it online and pick it up
Not the same as browsing but we want to be safe
We ordered some trees so I am looking forward to that
Claudia says
Truly an idiot. And she’s offering up the people she claims she wants to get back to work so they can support their families? Their health is expendable? OMG.
Stay safe, Linda!
Shanna says
Oh, that interview with that stupid lady! I’m starting to wonder if lead poisoning isn’t far more widespread than we have believed. Would explain the epidemic of stupidity we find ourselves exposed to.
Chris K in Wisconsin says
Oh, Shanna!!! That was PERFECT. It truly IS an epidemic, and it is shining way too brightly right now.
Claudia says
You have a theory there and I think it might catch on! Stupidity is running rampant. Stay safe, Shanna!
jeanie says
Don’t start me on opening Vegas!
You are rocking that puzzle — inspiring me to consider ordering one. All my puzzles are at the cottage and who knows when we’ll see that again. That’s a good one because you CAN to segments — still hard but better than the era when the puzzle was all one color!
We’re having the same weather. It’s making me crazy; too cold and wet to really go walking or dig outside. This, too, will pass, but it sure is taking its own sweet time!
Claudia says
Gosh, I want to fix up my porch and get my hands in the soil! It’s crazy.
Stay safe, Jeanie.
Donna says
I think this cartoon accurately describes what will happen when opening states too soon…GA
Thank goodness the mayor of Atlanta is speaking out against this.

Perfect. Absolutely perfect, Donna. Stay safe!
Lea says
The woman mayor of Los Vegas is truly a moron. How embarrassing for her caring
citizens.
I love crossword puzzles but am useless at Scramble and jigsaw puzzles unfortunately
but you have inspired me to order one from Amazon and try again. Thank you.
Very cool and sunny in Southern Ontario today. 🇨🇦
Claudia says
You should try again. I find a direct correlation between my love for crosswords and my love for jigsaws – though I haven’t done a whole lot of them in my lifetime. And being a ‘control person’ I want to do it all by myself! Stay safe, Lea.
Priscilla C says
hi Claudia,
Well, after having coffee & breakfast outside here in very warm, sunny OB, (!!), I thought I’d try to send some of the warmth your way!
I have the same problem w/my hubby too…terrible snoring. Many nights I just go to a different room & try to sleep! It’s awful, I know.
Where do you buy your jigsaw puzzles from? I’m so ready to do one! I do crosswords daily, but could sure use something else at this point.
Yep, the Mayor of Vegas is another Lulu..boy, we’ve got some unbelievable leaders in this country, don’t we?
Anyway..sending you some warm sunshine!!
Claudia says
It’s very, very warm out there, isn’t it?
I’ll make a list of jigsaw puzzle sources I’ve discovered, Priscilla. I’ll put it in tomorrow’s post. Stay safe!
Priscilla C says
No, It’s HOT!! I guess it’s the start of a long hot summer!
Thanks, I’m so excited!!
You stay safe too…

Claudia- That puzzle will be amazing when done. I’m with some of the others to say I don’t have the patience. Puzzle sales have been up, so I’m glad it is soothing for many!
My husband and I saw the Vegas Mayor interview. We just kept looking at each other in disbelief. I just want to say that I appreciate Anderson Cooper. He keeps it real and isn’t hesitant to bring people to task.
Claudia says
Thank goodness Cooper called her on her insane idea. Stay safe, Melanie!
Cathy S. says
I know I mentioned it before but we love doing jigsaw puzzles. We had worked on them off and on through the years but during this quarantine we have found them to be very relaxing. I think in a way they have kept us grounded during this crazy time we are all going through. Share more pictures of yours. It’s fun to see the progress you are making.
Have a wonderful day!
Claudia says
I find it very calming and a wonderful way to pass the time right now. I agree about them being grounding, Cathy. I’ll share more pictures tomorrow – I’m getting awfully close to the finish. Stay safe!
Chris K in Wisconsin says
Oh, that mayor! If they make a movie about it, I hope they don’t look any farther and just cast her in the role. I don’t know if they could find anyone more genuinely stupid. And how lovely of her and the casino owners to happily put the minimum wage folks out there as the test group for the nation. Now McConnell is saying the states should just go bankrupt. But not the airlines. Does anyone else feel like we are in a snow globe being tossed from one extreme to the other, and this just cannot be real?? No one would ever have believed this even as a Science Fiction movie. It is kind of a Sharknado film that we all would have chuckled about. Sadly, like that very bad movie venture, there will likely be a Part 2 which will be much worse than the Part 1 that we are now enduring.
Claudia says
I feel exactly like that, Chris! My worst nightmare.
Stay safe!
Joan says
Claudia, that is a Great way to do a puzzle! Did you put Masonite on a picture frame? So manageable . Though puzzles are enjoyable, the mess kitties make because of sitting in them and knocking pieces off the table has kept me from laying one out.
Good for you for pushing on through and doing Something. Anything.. my claim to fame of late has been vacuuming, laundry and gearing up to mow the grass. Keeping inspiring bus, Claudia, we need it🌸
Claudia says
The masonite was just in place of a tray or something or other on which to put some pieces that I need to put together separately from the puzzle. The wooden base that I using is our vintage bread board. Stay safe, Joan!
Joan says
That should read us not bus.
These keyboards have a mind of their own on some days.💖

wow … you will soon be done with that puzzle! looks great, claudia (and that was a great choice of puzzles, vicki)! glad you have another puzzle to work on. hope your back feels better.
also hope you can get outside soon and sleep better.
wishing for myself the same things. working is, of course, in some ways a blessing … but in other ways it is not. it is a good job, but it’s stressful anyway. add in being around people who are not good at social distancing and have visiting nurses and housekeepers who could be asymptomatic carriers of coronavirus for going to other people’s homes, too (as could i), and me wanting be polite but not sitting down and trying not to touch anything. add in someone asking me to get their toilet unplugged … because who else could do it …? and yesterday my boss (who had the day off and forgot to leave a note) texting me to do a safety check on someone when i was finally in my car more than ready to leave. so i go check on the elderly person who answers the door and says “i’m sick” … :( i did what was needed as safely as possible and left late and upset. i took a drive, then went to see some of my family … safely, they stood at the door and i was in my car where we could see each other and talk by phone. that helped. came home, took a long hot shower, but there’s no one here to hug. then i couldn’t sleep. i was awake until 5:30 this morning, slept three hours, took a one-hour nap and have done nothing today. that is my “new normal” right now … not getting to sleep until very late on days i work and then getting little accomplished on days off. ugh.
thanks for listening. :)
on a brighter note, i will finally start reading “a gentleman in moscow” today. :) going to check out that interview with the las vegas mayor first.
hope everyone has a peaceful night and stays safe and well!
kathy in iowa
Claudia says
I so wish you had someone to hug, Kathy. You deserve it and everyone does, always, but especially during this crisis. I can’t imagine how difficult it is for you to be in these situations. I assume you’re wearing a mask and gloves? Nevertheless, it’s draining and I wish you didn’t have to work right now. I’m so sorry about you not getting enough sleep. I think you got even less than I did. Sending you love and support from afar. Stay safe. I hope you have the day off tomorrow!
kathy in iowa says
hej, claudia …
i replied, just in the wrong spot. scroll down a bit, if you like.
also, i do work tomorrow and am grateful it will be friday.
happy puzzling!

just saw the interview with the mayor of las vegas. while anderson cooper interrupted her a few times (something i don’t like), i know he was only trying to get answers to his questions. and that mayor’s answers … wow … she won’t go into the casinos she wants open because she “has (have) a family”?! and kept repeating there are 2.3 million people in las vegas/southern nevada and laughing, offered to have the people there be a control group … some sad and scary thinking in a very sad and scary time. prayers for them, too.

Donnamae says
I did listen to most of that interview…oh my word! I’m thinking she might be certifiable. I feel for the citizens that are under her watch.
I ordered a puzzle saver, so I could work on my puzzle, yet put it away from curious paws.
We got a lot of yard work done yesterday, and some done today…but our weather is cooler today, and damp. Yucky. I certainly wish spring would warm up a tad. Stay safe! ;)
Claudia says
A puzzle saver? I’ll have to check them out! Sounds like a good solution to the cat problem.
Stay safe, Donnamae!
Robyn C says
Funny you should mention snoring in this post. The sleeping beauty beside me gave a few grunts last night so I nipped it in the bud by just touching his arm and he rolled over. If it is really bad I tell him to ‘roll over’ which usually stops the noise. Haven’t had a snoring problem for weeks now.
That looks like a very intense puzzle. Can see you have enjoyed doing this one. I’m still too busy with knitting and sewing, although yesterday I didn’t feel like doing any with my finger, so just read a book. Finished it about 1am this morning. Am feeling much better since my awful day the day before.
Claudia says
I do the same, but sometimes it just doesn’t work – especially when Don is congested, which he was yesterday.
So glad to hear you’re feeling better, Robyn! Stay safe.
kathy in iowa says
thanks for your friendship and support, claudia … much, much appreciated and reciprocated! :)
unfortunately, masks and social distancing make it tough for a lot of the elderly people i work with to hear me, but even so, i definitely do wear a mask and gloves! often i am yelling to be heard, but i remind them that it’s nothing personal, just the mask and social distancing needed for this awful situation we all are in.
probably like most people, my biggest fear is my family getting sick. and if i was the carrier? that’s the worst part of working right now for me … the increased risk of exposure to that virus (i still couldn’t hug my family for being a designated shopper for them). i know there are many hardships for being unemployed and i hate that and am certainly not minimizing what people without jobs are going through or saying i have it worse (because i don’t), but i sure would have a lot less stress if i wasn’t working. and while that “extra” $600. a week (for people who lost their jobs due to coronavirus) is only given for four months, that money added to unemployment benefits would be more than i was earning when working 40 hours a week at a job i’ve had for almost 21 years (which is pathetic). anyway, enough about that.
thanks again for listening and being a kind person and friend. :)
claudia, you chose a perfect word to describe things right now … it is draining for all of us … but more than that, i do believe that things will get better (i hope everyone does) and pray it is soon.
here’s to a better night’s sleep and better days ahead for everyone! and hugs!

Glad you are enjoying your puzzle. We have a few we never did. We are going to get one out. Barnes and Noble sells puzzles. It is in the cellar closet. I received my Pansy plants today. We will try to plant them over the weekend. Pansy plants like the cold weather.
Marilyn
Claudia says
I want some pansy plants for my planters. I love them so much! Hopefully, today. Stay safe, Marilyn!
Marcy Ray says
The “mayor” is a moron! Watching this interview, I kept thinking this is staged, but no sadly, another leader with a very low IQ . Sadder still are the folks that voted her in. I also felt Anderson Cooper gave her many options to change her mind & recognize how foolish her statements were.
A loyal reader of your blog, thanking you for showing us all we are not alone in wondering how some people were elected!
Claudia says
Thank you so much, Marcy Ray! Stay safe.
