A very cool and foggy morning today. I’m wearing my shawl. If you didn’t know better, you’d think it was autumn. But it’s going up to nearly 80 today, so it’s still summer. I’m not quite ready for fall yet, though I am definitely enjoying this cool morning.
Ah, the sun just came out.
Friends, there is not much that is new around here. I did a lot of laundry yesterday, took it easy (sinus crap, ongoing) took part in a mini bidding war (on a mini) on eBay, read some more of Hamnet, began watching Knives Out on Amazon Prime until we both looked at each other and said “This isn’t very good.” (I know some of you really liked it. As always, that’s just our opinion.) As Don said, “It needed to be directed by Wes Anderson.” Then we watched a couple of episodes of Frasier because ending the day with laughter is the best medicine.
I have to make a quick run to the post office today; Barbara, your package finally arrived. I think I’m going to start in on an organizing project. My minis are all over the place and I’d like to centralize the pieces that I’m not working with on one shelf in the closet. I know there are boxes in the closet and I have no idea where they are. It doesn’t help that the closet is currently blocked by boxes of canned goods and toilet paper – we call it our pantry extension.
Then I have to figure out the window situation in the dollhouse; once I have a handle on that, I can start in on the floors and wallpaper. The windows are what I least want to tackle, but I have no choice as I can’t do anything else until they’re done.
But I’m still feeling under the weather, so all these plans may or may not happen today. We’ll see.
Tonight, the Democratic Convention.
Stay safe.
Happy Monday.
Marilyn Schmuker says
If I’ve learned anything as I’ve gotten older it’s to listen to my body. I had a very quiet, easy day yesterday because I just felt drained. So be kind to yourself today.
Do you have a plan for the windows? I think shutters would be nice.
Take care
Claudia says
Not going to do shutters. I’m actually talking about the window itself.
Yes, I ran to the post office, came home, disinfected, and took a shower. Now it’s taking it easy the rest of the day!
Thanks, Marilyn!
Stay safe.
Margaret says
Just wondering if it would be possible to store the overflow pantry items in the shed.
Claudia says
Mice.
We have a lot of field mice here in the country.
Stay safe, Margaret!
Margaret says
Aha!

Life in the country.

Marilyn above… said it for me too! as I’ve gotten older I let my own body tell me.
some days are for rest and calm. others are to achieve and be busier.
I used to always PUSH THROUGH. part of being raised by a military man I’m sure.
now I go by my own clock. and I finally feel no guilt in doing that! but it took a long time.
that picture of the cool foggy morning is heaven to me!
I hope you feel better soon. xo
Claudia says
I feel no guilt, either! I’ve earned the chance to slow down and listen to my body. I no longer work 9-5, so I have that luxury!
Stay safe, Tammy!
tammy j says
yes! isn’t it fantastic to finally get to that place in our lives! xo
Claudia says
It is indeed!
xo
annette says
Yes! Don got it.When I watched Knives Out I felt it did not quite hit the mark for me.Wes Anderson is the answer.! xo
Claudia says
Exactly! If they wanted to do that style, then it needed Anderson’s touch.
Thanks, Annette. Stay safe!
jeanie says
Hope you feel better soon, Claudia. While I’ve been home I’ve tried to organize a few things better — with varying results, but at least I can see the bed in the guest room. I walk into the art room and get overwhelmed. But I did clear up the ratty book corner. That was bugging me for ages.
This is a good time for all that. Are you on blogger? I’m doing a new blogger survey over at Marmelade Gypsy. I know you’ve had trouble commenting in the past and I don’t know if you ever get over to visit but if you can, take a look. If you want to weigh in and it doesn’t take your comment you can always email me – jeanie@wkar.org.
Claudia says
I have an old blogger blog but I have not been able to leave a comment on any Blogger blogs in a year or so. I have no idea why. And this is when I’m signed into my blog! I know of a few people who also can’t leave comments. I’ll go over and read your survey but I’ll have to comment via email. Thanks for letting me know, Jeanie.
Stay safe!

The DNC and MO speaking! Cannot wait to hear intelligence. It is so lacking.
I feel like if one goes to the PO these days that we should bring a plate of brownies or something. So absolutely ridiculous. I am sure they are just shaking their heads in disbelief. So many, at least in our little town, have worked there forever. Who could have ever seen this coming?
Just like all dictators, we have to understand that what they say is what they are actually going to do. They don’t hide the atrocities, they let us know and then carry them out. Apparently we have no recourse. I have never ever felt so overwhelmed and lost.
Claudia says
Same here. We know our guys by name and they are wonderful – Keith and Gene. And our postal carrier is Lori. We love them all. Nancy is calling back the House. Several state AGs are going to sue. And we need to continue to be loud and vocal.
Stay safe, Chris.
Margaret says
Our mail carrier, Ann, is our former son-in-law’s wife’s stepmother; we consider ourselves co-mothers-in-law.
Claudia says
I think many of us think of our local postal workers as friends and we don’t like this happening to them.
xo
Chris K in Wisconsin says
You are right. We need to remain vocal. ALL of us, I would bet, or most of us, have those same PO stories. They are our neighbors, friends, and relatives. They were blindsided like the rest of us. We must speak uo and call them all out. We can’t lie down and take simply whine about it. Together we ARE strong.

Anyone catch the CBS Sunday Morning Ted Koppel piece? I usually miss it with having coffee with DH. My brother made sure I saw it. I encourage those who missed it to look for it online. Gary Hart was interviewed for part of it, also. It’s regarding PEAD – Presidential Emergency Action Documents.
If you don’t need any additional anxiety, of course, avoid looking at or reading it.

Don’t need more anxiety at the moment, so I think I’ll pass!
Thanks, Martha. Stay safe!

Martha, it was one of the most informative pieces I have seen on how all of this has been allowed to happen. I thought about it all day yesterday. I had never heard of this previous to watching this yesterday morning. I hope everyone does watch.
Donnamae says
Yes Martha, that was a very enlightening piece, and extremely scary! Thanks for highlighting it. Stay safe!

Claudia, I want to comment on the interesting perspective of your picture in this post. It is lovely. This is an angle you rarely (if ever) have posted of your property and the view. I think it is an amazing picture, I’ve come back several times to look at the picture. I don’t know why this picture captured my thoughts so much but wanted to thank you for sharing this picture.
Enjoy your day.
Claudia says
I have taken pictures from that same viewpoint before, but I don’t do it often and I think the fog made it memorable. Thank you so much for your kind words, Jan. Stay safe!
Beverly says
I logged on just to comment on that picture on your post that JanL also admired. I opened up my email and out came a verbal ahhh. So lovely. I always love your pictures, but I certainly agree with JanL on this one. Thanks for the peaceful feeling it brings.
Claudia says
You are most welcome, Beverly. Thank you for your kind words.
Stay safe!

I have to visit the post office tomorrow. Someone commented about bringing brownies to the workers. Oh, if only it was that simple…eh? But, at least Nancy called the House back…so we will see what we see.
I saw your Instagram post about the ballots, and what to do. We’ve decided that’s the best thing to do, so we’re encouraging our friends and family to do the same. Drop it off in person!!
I’m glad you are going to rest today. When your body is talking to you…it’s best to listen. Stay safe! ;)
Claudia says
I think we’re going to do the same thing. Now we have to request them!
Yes, my sinuses have been giving me grief for the past 3 days, so I’m definitely taking it easy.
Stay safe, Donna!

Claudia- this is the most sane and informative article I’ve read, thought you’d like it! Sorry I didn’t know how to just copy link!!!!
Advice from Dr. Faheem Younus, the Chief of the Infectious Diseases Clinic, University of Maryland, USA:
1. We may have to live with COVID-19 for months or years. Let’s not deny it or panic. Let’s not make our lives useless. Let’s learn to live with this fact.
2. You can’t destroy coronaviruses that have penetrated cell walls, drinking gallons of hot water – you’ll just go to the bathroom more often.
3. Washing hands, wearing face mask/face shield and maintaining a two-meter physical distance is the best method for your protection.
4. If you don’t have a COVID-19 patient at home, there’s no need to disinfect the surfaces at your house.
5. Packaged cargo, gas pumps, shopping carts and ATMs do not cause infection. Wash your hands, live your life as usual.
6. You cannot catch COVID-19 from the packaging of food or from ordering take-out food. COVID-19 is not a food-borne infection like Salmonella. It is a droplet-related infection like the ‘flu. There is no demonstrated risk that C19 is transmitted by food.
7. You can temporarily lose your sense of smell with a lot of allergies and viral infections. It’s a non-specific symptom that may or may not happen with COVID-19.
8. Taking hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin preemptively is NOT a good idea to prevent COVID. These experimental drugs for coronavirus should only be used in selected COVID patients. They can sometimes cause fatal heart rhythm problems plus other side effects.
9. Once at home, you don’t need to change your clothes urgently and go shower! Cleanliness is a virtue, paranoia isn’t! Let’s not scare people. Our biggest return on investment is in handwashing, staying 6 feet away from people, avoiding large crowd and wearing face mask.
10. The C19 virus doesn’t hang in the air for long. This is a respiratory droplet infection that requires close contact.
11. The air is clean, you can walk through the gardens (just keeping your physical protection distance), through parks.
12. It is sufficient to use normal soap against C19, not antibacterial soap. This is a virus, not a bacteria.
13. You don’t have to worry about your food orders. But you can heat it all up in the microwave, if you wish.
14. The chances of bringing C19 home with your shoes is like being struck by lightning twice in a day. I’ve been working against viruses for 20 years – droplet infections don’t spread like that!
15. You can’t be protected from the virus by taking vinegar, sugarcane juice and ginger! These are for immunity not a cure.
16. Wearing a mask for long periods interferes with your breathing and oxygen levels. Wear it only in crowds.
17. Wearing face shield is a better option than face mask. It protects the eyes and is less suffocating.
18. Wearing gloves is also a bad idea; the virus can accumulate into the glove and be easily transmitted if you touch your face. Better just to wash your hands regularly.
Immunity is greatly weakened by always staying in a sterile environment. Even if you eat immunity boosting foods, please go out of your house regularly to any park/beach.
Immunity is increased by EXPOSURE TO PATHOGENS, not by sitting at home and consuming fried/spicy/sugary/junk foods and aerated drinks.
Live life sensibly and to the fullest. Be smart and stay informed!
Claudia says
Thank you so much for this! You’re right, Carolyn. It’s sane and no-nonsense. I hope everyone sees this, I’ll make sure to reference it in tomorrow’s post.
Stay safe.
Martha says
Thank you, Carolyn, for sharing Dr. Younus’ advice – perfect. Live sensibly, mask on, hand-washing, 6-feet, and no crowds.

Love your photographs.. I lived my younger years in the Hudson Valley near the river. I miss everything about it . Look forward to more photos and just checking in with likeminded people.

hope you are feeling better by now and enjoy lots of puttering at home (big or mini), reading and resting.
that is a lovely view! do you see that from your den?
i finished a chapter of the agatha christie book yesterday (yay) … only to find it wasn’t a chapter but a short story (boo). i haven’t read in a long time and when i read, it’s almost exclusively non-fiction so i was disappointed for finding a fiction book that i was starting to get into only to have that part end in twenty pages. :( i have promised myself to finish this book no matter what, so that’s what i will do!
now, though, is time for dinner. what should i have? i don’t know!
are you going to watch the democratic convention on tv tonight?
hope you have a good night and sleep better. and stay safe! don and everyone else, too.

That photo was taken from the porch, Kathy.
We did watch the convention. It was great, especially Michelle Obama!
Stay safe!
Kay says
Sorry you’re not feeling well, Claudia. Watching the convention and eagerly awaiting Michelle’s speech. This is sure a “different” convention. All of us who live near Milwaukee are disappointed it can’t be happening here.
Take care.
Kay
Claudia says
I sort of like it better this way. It is much more intimate. But I understand your disappointment!
Stay safe, Kay.

I hope you felt better as the day went on. It’s nice to have the doll project to look forward to in these next months ahead; lots of plans to make it wonderful.
Speaking of, WONDERFUL misty morning; loved the photo; made me feel cooler as we SoCalifornians swelter under our days-long heatwave. Any green we had left is turning to straw-color, as in so long/farewell. Not til we get RAIN.
I knew I’d miss the convention in real time tonight, so I recorded it and will look forward to watching it right about now!
Claudia says
We had some rain overnight and everything is dewy this morning. Lovely.
Stay safe, Vicki.
